  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) he's been on that badwagon for literally 2 months, and you're right, he acts completely clueless and like the rest of MLB is missing out on some fantastic bargin in passing on Soriano. I would imagine he has strong contacts with Cubs and Boston (guess it makes sense with the front-office situation) since he does some A LOT of talking about them out-of-the blue Heyman did say a couple of days ago, the White Sox were the most interesting team to watch at the deadline.
  2. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) KW definitely has Gavin on the block right now. If he trades Floyd, he needs another starter.
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) If a team would need the Marlins to eat some of his salary in order to make a deal, it lets them know that they have to get the deal done today. If he goes on waivers, only teams that can afford to eat his salary can risk putting in a claim (see Rios, Alex). He'll more than likely clear waivers. The Marlins aren't paying most of CLee's salary anyway. Houston is. If he goes on waivers, I believe his entire contract would have to be picked up. That isn't happening.
  4. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) I agree...nothing even brewing, no news, something is up! You could have said that all last winter and nothing was up. I think the people who think KW is planning on adding King Felix, Cliff Lee, Justin Upton and a few others to the roster are going to be a little dissappointed at 3 pm. The heavy lifting has already been done. I think he's looking for complimentary pieces some of which may be available after the deadline when more teams will be out.
  5. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) A team can request a physical but yet are not required for a trade to be processed. Both Heyman and Mitch Williams touched on this yesterday when talking about Garza. They said teams are able to look at medical records but the Cubs do not have to have Garza take a physical. When you are trading during the deadline it's buyer beware. You can say I'm wrong but I'm not. If the team trading for Garza requires a physical for them to agree to the trade, than a physical will indeed be required for the trade to be processed.
  6. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 12:14 PM) He got his contract ! Seriously, I really doubt this is true as Danks seems like a real stand up guy, but isn't it kind of strange that he always turned down the Sox offers in the past. I don't think that his deal was that big and he seemed like he was headed to free agency prior to his signing. Is it possible that he sensed that something was wrong at the end of last season and wanted to get his deal signed if it turned out serious? Its true, not because of desire, but he physically doesn't want to throw now. He will if they tell him to, but he's hurting. don't know what they have scheduled for me," said Danks, who hasn't thrown off a mound since Friday while recovering from a left shoulder strain. "I was kind of glad we didn't throw off the mound (Monday). It wasn't too bad, but I definitely like the break. It's not fun going out there and trying to push through something. But you've got to do what you got to do, and (if) they had me do it, I'll do it."
  7. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) No physicals in midseason trades, they can release medical records but no physical given. Buyer beware during the season. Where do you get this information? I'm pretty sure if a team wants a physical and says it won't make the deal without one, if the other team wants to make the deal, the physical will take place.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 12:00 PM) I spent a few minutes looking on medical sites for treatment of this type of injury. Seems physical therapy is the first option. Surgery is not normally recommended for Grade 1 unless physical therapy doesn't provide results. Time period for therapy was described as normally 6-8 weeks. If he requires arthroscopic surgery, it says the normal recovery time would be 3-6 months. I would add a few months for a pitcher after surgery. I think he's having surgery. The guy has no desire to throw right now. They need to find out what is really going on.
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) Marlins begging people to take Carlos Lee of their hands, what a joke of an organization. I think the Tigers should take him and promote the fattest 3-4-5 in MLB history. CLee doesn't have much power anymore.
  10. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Soriano has been absolutely raking the ball for his last 75 games/3 months or so. One thing about Soriano, when he's hot, he's on fire, when he's not, he's awful for a long time. He's due for a big long slump.
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) I believe the Quintana you saw yesterday is more of the Quintana your going to get than the 2.3 ERA one. But Im sure Ill be barked at by a few people just like during his last start. That being said I dont believe we acquire a starter. Kenny isnt done adding though(Utility IF help and Bullpen). I think he's a poor man's Buerhle myself. When he's off a bit, he's going to get rocked, just like Buerhle gets rocked for stretches. I think he'll bounce back. If he can put the ball where he wants to put it, you don't have to have much stuff.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) 3-team race for Dempster now between the Dodgers, Rangers, & Yankees Makes sense both ways. If its BS, its an attempt to get the Dodgers to up their offer. If its true, its 3 teams with a legit shot to win this year. I'm thinking Dempster doesn't want to go to Atlanta because he doesn't like their chances.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) KW doesn't have the talent to trade for an ace, and he probably doesn't have the room to take on an "ace" salary commitment. Other than that, it makes perfect sense.
  14. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) That's a joke, it's been happening since baseball was invented. It's sending a message, I'm not saying send a defensive replacement in that inning right after it happens (although that has happened, and that I feel is unprofessional) but when he comes in after the 1/2 inning you pull him to the side and very "politely" let him know he can spend the rest of the game on the bench thinking about whatever is so important it's taken from your focus on the field. A guy is not going to lose his snit over this unless he is soft. Anoerexei has his head in the clouds from time to time but these errors were things that just happened.
  15. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:34 PM) Absolutely not, what I'm talking about is having the ability to hold a guy like Alexi responsible for his defensive mental lapses the past two games. You take him out sit him on the bench and I can promise he wouldnt do it again. Problem is you take Lexi out his spot in the order is an automatic out. Just be nice to have a guy to come off the bench who can carry a stick. If nothing else to give the guy a mental break every once in a whole. I am very much in favor of the Lirano trade as per alSittl my posts since, just saying the way we have mentally gave teams life by mental errors needs to stop. And Robin needs to send a meAsage but it's hard when you don't have the tools to do such. I'm old school and when a guy plays like Alexi has the past two games he's is taking a seat next to me on the bench Sitting him will ensure he will never make an errot again?
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) 12:$5.5M, 13:$5.5M, 14:$6M club option ($1M buyout) The extension was signed at the time with the understanding he was going to be the closer for the length of his contract. $12 million dollars is QUITE a bit to pay a set-up guy for 2 years. You said he was making $5.5 million in 2011, which was wrong. There was no understanding he was going to be the closer for the length of the contract. That's total BS. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=6187203
  17. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) I had heard he was going through some "personal issues" and figured it was because of his sick child. What scumbag Score guy brought the divorce thing up? I guess that fills in the blanks. I'm willing to bet it was McNeil or Lawrence Holmes. Its public record. I don't know why it makes them scum.
  18. I'll make a crazy prediction, if the Sox get League, KW trades Nate Jones to Toronto for Oliver and Vizquel.
  19. Septimo was signed to a minor league deal. If they want to send him down----its all good.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) Septimo kept up to face some of the tough lefties on the Twins, IMO. Ventura had more confidence in him, that's for sure. Santiago was moping up. I do think KW is looking to upgrade that position.
  21. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) Septimo is out of options I believe. I'm pretty sure he was on a split contract. He was in Charlotte earlier, that should be the same option.
  22. I have the feeling Septimo will be back in Charlotte in the next couple of days.
  23. I'm no KW guy that's for sure, but I watch this show and its very apparent Cowley nicknamed the wrong guy "Hollywood".
