  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) link? He actually said Beckham cleaned up his mechanics quite a bit and is at the point they could be sustained for 600 AB.
  2. Ramirez' OPS is about the same as Beckham's. Still waiting for a non Marty34 Ramirez must go because he simply cannot hit post.
  3. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) How on Earth do you know it's mental? If it was mental, then why doesn't he take that bad offense onto the field? His bat is too slow and attempts to make it faster have failed. That's a physical issue and he can't magically be faster without some assistance. He's thinking too much at the plate. That slows you down. When he's going well, his bat is plenty quick enough.
  4. If you're a player Soxtalk HASN'T said its time to move away from, you are in a huge minority. I still think Beckham will hit. He's had some stretches where he's been good, he's also been awful and he's been unlucky. 2010 was a bad year overall, but he was really good the second have before he broke his thumb. Its all in his mind. The talent is there, the frustration IMO keeps him from busting out. I'd keep him around at least one more year. His glove alone has saved the Sox some games.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) It's for parity. Struggling teams can get a look at young players without sacrificing current MLB talent to waivers or burning up options. It has a very small benefit for teams like the White Sox, but can be hugely useful for a team like the Cubs that may want to work in 30+ players a week to see what they've got. The saying goes, don't believe anything you see in spring training, and don't believe anything you see in meaningless games in September. See Fields, Josh and Morel, Brent.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:13 AM) If you make this the rule, then teams will de-activate the four starting pitchers not starting that particular game, so unless you have more than 4 call-ups, those 4 are going to be able to be active every single game anyway. You're essentially creating a rule just to create a rule. They can deactivate them, but, at the very least, they are still playing with a 25 man roster. Chances are most teams aren't going to have 4 fringe guys on call. Even the guys making minimum pull in 75k a month.
  7. I think they need to change the call up rule. Why play the last month under vastly different rules than the previous 5? Someone had a great idea. Keep the roster at 25 active, but you can activate and de-activate players on a game by game basis in September.
  8. It appears losing out on Greinke was a blessing. 6.19 ERA in 5 starts with the the Angels Angels of Anaheim. The Angels are 1-4 in his starts.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) How many unearned runs did they allow in the 1st half of the year as opposed to since the ASB? I am pretty sure all these runs are earned.
  10. Youk is going to need some sort of offseason conditioning program. He's at the point in time where he can't get away with a body more resembling a weekend softball player.
  11. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 12:42 AM) thats awesome. so true. jose reyes wasnt doing too well earlier in the year and now is doing real well and theyre out of it yet he celebrates every little thing he does. If he's this great leader, couldn't he get them to stop celebrating? What exactly is his job besides to collect a check on the 15th and 30th and to get some exposure for other paydays? Every comment he makes, he further proves he's a fraud as a manager.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) That's what I've been saying the whole time. You can't count on him to be a consistent threat if he's not spending a whole lot of time at DH/1b. He's better than Morel, as long as we're not paying for it. He can't hit on the road this year. .182 avg. .278 OBP and a .578 OPS.
  13. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) I'm not over reacting, I'm asking if the coaches are preparing us to play this team, because it doesn't seem like it. We have to beat scrubs like this. No reason to fall out of first place because you go 4-7 against the friggin' Royals. Unacceptable. We just look unprepared to play the last few times we've seen them. You're overreacting. If the coaches don't prepare the team, how is it they are in first place?
  14. Its 3-0. Keep in mind, Bruce Chen has never beaten the White Sox in KC.
  15. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Are the coaches doing anything to get us prepared, thats my question at this point Absolutely not. They are as bad as this team. This season is ova. This. Team. Is. Dead. The overreactions are amazing. Have you been paying attention all season, or just want to take one bad inning as the sample?
  16. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Actually the story is now being reported by more media outlets. Link. You can get a passport in a couple of days if needed. It really makes no sense.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) The guys on MLB Network said he didn't have his passport, but he's Canadian, I dont get it. I don't think they were being serious.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) You could put a dress on a pig, but it is still a pig. This is what Dunn does, always has been, always will be. he isnt going to magically start hitting in the .260s and driving the ball the other way because he wants to. He hit in the .260s at Washington, and didn't always strike out at a 240 time a season clip.
  19. Dunn now has the same amount of official ABs as last year. 9 more plate appearances He has 20 more hits. 21 more extra base hits. 23 more homers. 9 more walks and 7 less strike outs. The more contact he makes, the more homers he will hit. Not less. Imagine what his numbers would look like if he was at the 140 strikeout mark now.
  20. You have to be careful when calling up guys when you are in a race for the playoffs. For one thing, if they really were all that good, they probably would already be on the team, so they probably won't play much. The other thing is, you don't want to crowd the clubhouse too much and make it uncomfortable for everyone. The Sox will obviously call up a few guys, but I would be shocked if its more than 4 or 5 and that number is probably high.
  21. The key for the Sox IMO is going to be the head to head with Detroit. Getting swept is not an option. If they would have won 1 out of 3 in Detroit the last time, they would be 4.5 up right now.
  22. I wonder if its Thornton. When he left the game the other night, while he was coming out anyway, Hawk said AJ wanted Robin to come out before he actually came out to remove him. I wonder if he had something wrong with him.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) Two days ago, he was "worthless" to posters here. Since, he's had 2 HR's and 5 RBI's. I don't care if he goes 0 for his next 10. Those 2 HR and 5 RBI proves he's not "worthless," especially compared to Danks, who hit 1 HR in numerous AB's. He's played a huge role in 2 wins. Paulie comes back tomorrow so its probably back to riding pine for Wise, but he's had a series in Toronto Mike Trout would be proud to have.
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) Why was Septimo getting important innings over this guy? Supposedly, Cooper really loves Septimo, Veal was pretty impressive his first stint and looks good again tonight.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) That's fine. And that's my point. What percentage of those have come in the last 4 years? It's just not as big as it once was. The pitching today is the best it's ever been. These arms being produced every year just baffles me. Velocity is way up. Seems like everybody has a + breaking ball to go with that velocity. Babe Ruth would be John Kruk in today's game. There has been some stud pitchers coming up the last few years, but some guys far from studs have thrown perfect games. I think some of it has to do with how the offensive approach has changed. There are a ton more strikeouts in today's game which lessens the chance of a cheap hit.
