  1. Melton is still calling him Sales.
  2. The Cubs will most likely trade Dempster, so they have an advantage, but I'm going with SD.
  3. The Cubs are where a lot of people on Soxtalk think the Sox should be. Battle for the #1 pick. One big difference, 30k still show up when the Cubs are horrid. If the Sox ever get this bad, they will be lucky if 10k are actually at the park.
  4. UZR

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 26, 2012 -> 01:20 AM) Yup. Like anything that has to do with statistics, the larger sample size the better. Soriano's UZR this year is the perfect example why a 50 game sample size is completely irrelevant. Coming into this season, since he's been with the Cubs, Soriano's UZR rating is 55 runs above the average LF. That was 641 games.
  5. Wimpy will be in the booth with Hawk in Tampa.
  6. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 27, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) I like Manto....but I'm not sure he's freaking amazing. I just think we're seeing how bad our previous hitting coach was and why he should have been fired 3 years ago. Yet the other thing hitting coach is coaching a team without a DH that has outscored the Sox.
  7. I was in LF by the bullpen in the sun. Juan Nievez is the greatest bullpen coach of all time for hosing us down 4 times.
  8. What the Sox can do is be creative. Draft pick compensation is different now. You have to make quite an offer to get draft picks if a FA departs, so some teams will be more willing to give up guys and pay a lot of their remaining salary for a legit prospect or 2, something KW did with Everett and Alomar in 2003. Teams are always looking for relievers, the Sox seem to have a lot of them. Also, teams acquiring guys must have them a year to be eligible for compensation. I just don't see them adding payroll, although KW did hint they had something available after they traded Quentin and then kind of went back on it, so I'm sure they have something available. They know better than us how bad attendance is and how it looks going forward. It will go up if the Sox continue to play well, but it doesn't usually skyrocket.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) And if we have a stretch like that, I am sure attendance will respond accordingly. Right now we are running about 20% behind last year. Definitely. 26-5 stretches don't occur very often. I'd bet most teams that have had them in the wild card era, have made the playoffs.
  10. Things have to be kept in perspective. I love the hot streak as much as anyone but its been against the Cubs and Twins, 2 of the worst teams in baseball, and Cleveland playing without Hafner, Cabrera and Santana. Obviously, these are games that should be won, and have been won, something that couldn't have been said much the past few seasons. Lots can change in a week. If the Sox are still playing well, I think the bandwagon is going to start filling up.
  11. What about tipping vendors? A beer at USCF is 7.75. I would imagine most who buy 1 give the vendor a 1.25 tip. Most that buy 2 give them a 1.50 tip. Don't they make $1 a can anyway? I feel for the servers. Its a job I would never do, but IMO tipping is out of hand. They have tip jars at Subway and a lot of places of their ilk. Are we just a couple of years away from having to give a tip to the person checking you out at the grocery store. Bartenders should be well taken care of if you plan on doing some drinking. He/she will be happy and so will you. If you ever go to the what used to be call Jim Beam Club as USCF, dropping a little money for your free beverage will set you up very pretty for the end of the 7th when you actually start paying. 20-25% is my standard tip. I don't complain about bad service. I agree with earlier posts, the best way to complain is to never return.
  12. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 27, 2012 -> 08:11 AM) I wonder right now how many people would be in favor of, at this point, to dump the Dunn and Rios contracts for a bag of baseballs to any team willing to take them on. What do you think the polling would show for this? My guess is only 50% would say do it MAX at this moment, today, whereas at spring training that number would probably be 90%+ If someone were willing to take the entire contract, I'd dump Dunn and Rios in a heartbeat. If someone takes Peavy, that frees up a ton of cash to help this rebuild on the fly.
  13. What was the deal with Bob Saget singing the national anthem?
  14. Clearly, KW really messed up and didn't trade Viciedo a month ago like Marty knew he should. Now, he has no value.
  15. HAWK RULES The title of this thread blows.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) I'm convinced that if you're coming off multiple bad years, in a northern, open-air park, you're not going to get the attendance until June, no matter how good the team is. It's just not an easy thing for a lot of people to pick up and go to a game on a whim. It's a big time and money commitment that usually is made days or weeks ahead of time. Also, I think what they charge for parking is absurd. Especially with this Dynamic Pricing model which makes buying tickets the day of the game like paying scalper's prices to sold out games, yet there will be close to 10,000 unsold tickets. If you're someone who only goes to games a couple of times a year, you are probably not going to be choosing April or May dates well in advance. Way too risky in Chicago.
  17. CSN just showed a graphic, the Sox are 14-0 when they have homered at least twice, 9-22 when homering once or less. Put a couple on the board boys.
  18. Paulie's next homer will be his 400th in a White Sox uniform. I wonder where they will put his statue. He's only 49 behind the Big Hurt for the White Sox record. I never thought he stood a chance, but now I'm thinking if he doesn't get hurt, he's probably going to do it.
  19. QUOTE (th0mas35 @ May 25, 2012 -> 03:28 AM) Long time lurker...infrequent poster but I'm 27...sox fan since I was around 10 and I absolutely love hawk. I guess your demographic is way younger than me.. I like the fact that he's a homer and is biased. I agree with others when I say it's sorta blasphemous to even attempting to remove hawk. Watching sox games won't be the same when he steps down IMO My nephew is 10 and he loves to sit back, relax and strap it down. I think Hawk appeals to a lot more people than a lot of this board realizes.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:07 PM) Why do you think they're friends? Everytime I listen to them I feel like Farmer wants to kill DJ. I've been with them on the elevator a few times. They get along there. If they really hated each other, they probably wouldn't be leaving together.
  21. Snoop Dog is throwing out the first pitch. USCF is going to smell like Old Comiskey Park's upper deck tonight.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) I think either Farmer and DJ absolutely hate each other, or they are the best friends in the world. I can't decide which. There are just way too many uncomfortable moments. I think they are friends. They are both very nice people.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) I'll make this brief. A friend of mine got his third DUI in the past four years in Vegas a couple weeks ago. He got one in Kansas City, one in Vegas two years ago to go with this one. His court date is in August; he has no attorney yet. He was caught SLEEPING at a red light in his car and I don't know what his blood totals were. He has not received the results. I told him to call an attorney NOW. I told him his license actually might already be suspended as I believe DMZ does not have to tell you it's been suspended. It's your responsibility to find out. My question to u is (perhaps you have gotten DUI or know people who had multiple DUIs) ... 1.) Will judge find out about the DUI in Kansas City? Or will that one remain separate? 2.) Does the fact he was sleeping at stoplight matter in his case? That seems pretty serious/dangerous. 3.) With 2 DUIs, will he serve jail time? 4.) Are there any circumstances you still get to drive your car for a year when license is suspended? 5.) Can an awesome attorney get him off scot free? And on a personal level, do you think he is an irresponsible asshole for doing this repeatedly? Or do you think people make mistakes? THANK YOU for any advice you can give. He's 28 years old and the Vegas cops had his mom bail him out of jail; I don't know how they got her number back in Kansas, etc. 3 DUIs in 4 years, he needs more than attorney or 3. I have a friend who is f***ed up for life since the age of 15 due to a drunk driver, so I have zero tolerance, althought, hypocrite that I am, I am sure I have driven over the limit several times in my life.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) You can't deny his record. For a franchise as bad as the White Sox franchise historically, his W/L record was stellar. He kept the clubhouse loose. The fact a guy like Mark would play for him AGAIN does say something. You can't tell me he'd have gone there ($$$$) only for the cash if he despised Ozzie. If Miami wins the NL this year and it is possible, will you guys melt down or be just a tiny bit happy for Ozzeroo? p.s. I won't be surprised to see Buehrle in the all star game. Nevermind that as of Monday morning the Marlins had won 2 less games than they had won after the same amount played last year, and the team that only won because of Ozzie was 4 games better than last season.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) To tell you the truth, I wouldn't care if the home announcer didn't live and die with each game. If he's bringing me the game professionally with interesting content, I don't care if his blood isn't boiling when things go wrong. Chance are, when they're calling 150 games a year, they're going to lean toward the team paying the salary. It's when they go over the line, and think they're part of the team on the field that I have a problem with. To give you an example of somebody that straddled the line, but didn't cross it...John Rooney. He was never a "Sox fan", but he did a great job for the Sox and most people really liked how he called the game. John Rooney was a homer and once went on a rant about how Gary Redus was better leadoff hitter than Rickey Henderson. I will never forget that one. Gary was playing for the White Sox when he said it. Rickey was in his prime.
