  1. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 12, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) Is there a reason why Jon Gilmore is still in Birmingham, and Brady Shoemaker isn't? Or Dan Black? Gilmore is the second coming of Joe Crede. KW said so.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) To be fair though...1.25 months of UZR really isn't giving you all that much. Still, he hasn't been as god awful as advertised.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) And that means what? Just like Rios in 2011, DeAza has been pretty bad overall in CF defensively. He has better range and closing/make-up speed than Rios, but he's been far from an average MLB CFer to the "eye test." It means he's doing better than you think.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) Or they're making Molina another bullpen arm, lol. After today, he'd fit right in. I'm sure the guy KW hired from Toronto was responsible for this acquisition. They tried to spin it, but KW didn't know he wasn't playing winter ball. He's certainly not looking like the future ace they wanted Sox fans to believe they were acquiring.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) He's misplayed at least two more in the last 5-7 days that I can remember. His saber stats so far this year are above average.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Okay, a day or two ago, DeAza was at 830. The problem is DeAza's cost us quite a few bases and runs defensively as well, nullifying some of his offensive production. The one glaring difference though, is subbing out Quentin's numbers for Viciedo's, and how bad Morel has been. The improvement from Dunn and Rios has pretty much been nullified by the two Cubans sucking and Morel. Because Beckham's sadly enough still hitting for a better OPS than he did last year. De Aza has been much better defensively as of late.
  7. It was nice of Robin to give Stults one final look at a major league mound.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) Dunn, Konerko, and AJ are sitting there with OPS's very close to their career numbers. Rios is sitting at .733 which is respectable but ideally .800-ish is good for him. Then, we have 4 guys in our lineup at about .600 or below. And our bench has effectively given us nothing. So, again, we've got a couple guys performing slightly above their career trend, then 1/2 our lineup performing poorly enough that you'd expect them to have to improve just by regression. So it's very true...whatever inexcusable stat you want to point to, it's truly inexcusable...but yet, we're still sitting just slightly below average in the AL in offense. They were 8th in average, 7th in OPS and 11 th in the AL in runs last year. Looks like they are about where they should be.
  9. I wouldn't mind if they took the names of the back of the home whites and put gigantic numbers on the back. Its a sweet look.
  10. Nice stop by Morel, but he looked a bit lame getting up. Hopefully his back is OK.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) So much for trading AJ and Thornton when they were "hot." Guess we can wait another two more months of Malaise Ball before the trades start coming. It's mostly frustrating because the Indians and Tigers are both playing badly enough that they're trying to keep us in the race and force KW to stand pat for the fourth season in a row. Why didn't they trade Addison Reed when they had the chance?
  12. They changed the rule this year. If a pitcher comes out to the mound between innings they can't pull him before he faces a batter. I also read this might be the last season the fake to 3rd , throw over to first Black Jack McDowell perfected, will be legal. It will become a balk.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) At some point it might help to recalibrate people to the league no longer being steroid-loaded too, where they expect every game to have 17 runs. The Angels are the only team in baseball to be shutout more than the Sox. The offensive needs and has needed for a few years some recalibration.
  14. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) Glad to see we can still beat up on the weaker sisters of the AL Central. Their starter gets injured and we go up against the vaunted Royals bullpen and get blanked. If its a sign of things to come, its not going to be a good year. They have to win the divisional games.
  15. If the Sox lose this one Thornton will get the majority of the blame, but the Sox were shutout by a guy with a 9.00 ERA last night, and scored 1 run against a fill in today. That's brutal.
  16. I'm pretty sure Hawk would love to see Francouer nude.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) IIRC, very few homers at home with men on base According to this year's BP, USCF has gone from hitter's haven to exactly neutral.
  18. If Paulie isn't on fire, the Sox offense is offensive.
  19. QUOTE (almagest @ May 13, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) This is what happens when you score 1 run against a mop-up pitcher. This. If you can't give up 2 runs in a game to win, its going to be a long season.
  20. That was a wild pitch, but Flowers had a weak effort.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 13, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) He mght be a bit overwhelmed by big league ball and big leaguer pitching, etc. I would give him time too I'm sure he'll be a good hitter at the MLB level. My biggest concern with him is his weight. Will he be able to keep from blowing up?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) He has three walks in 110 or so at bats and game after game is just flailing away. He needs to be sent down for a month or so and try again. He'll get hot. I'm sure part of his problem is he sees his numbers on the scoreboard.
  23. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 13, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) i said almost always. that's not a guarantee. I thought you had to go to work.
