  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) Yep. I have asked this a few times, and I am guessing by the lack of responses that it never has been done on this level, but what the biggest contract a team has ate completely like this? Kei Igawa has to be up there, although technically not eaten. He is being paid $20 million over 5 years and his posting fee was $26 million. He is pitching in AAA and the Yankees have told him for a few years there is no way they will call him up, even tried to trade him back to Japan a couple of times and he refused, so for 16 pitiful outings, they shelled out $46 million. The current record for most money eaten by a team by releasing a contract is $33 million, which the Diamondbacks swallowed when they released pitcher Russ Ortiz in June of 2006.
  2. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) It is too much of a sign that Thornton did not pitch today? No. He pitched in 3 of the last 4.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) But wouldn't you want to see what the market would bear for them individually? Rasmus has talent. I just wonder about the attitude. There's something there the Cardinals despise. I'm sure the White Sox aren't going to like it eventually either. If he puts it together, the deal is a steal. If not, you're out 2 months of Jackson and a few years of paying a 35 year old plus Matt Thornton a lot of money. I would make this trade as long as I was satisfied Rasmus isn't going to become a problem in a few weeks.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) This actually makes me want to get Rasmus more. Really? His hitting has tailed off this season.
  5. I thought this was especially interesting considering the current White Sox fan debate over coaching. From espn.com: Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has lost faith in Rasmus, in part for his tendency to use outside coaching help for his hitting.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Delmon Young has a .826 OPS last season and is still 25 years old. What is he doing this year and the other years? Rasmus had a nice OPS as a 23 year old. So what. Mark Teahen put up an .874 OPS as a 24 year old. If the Cardinals trade him, there's a bigger reason other than he doesn't like Tony LaRussa.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) seriously. Why call for a pinch hitter there? Teahen had as good a chance as anybody to get a bloop hit. No he didn't. He can't hit lefties and he should be pulled from the game for defensive purposes anyway.
  8. John Hart before this season started compared Chris Sale to Randy Johnson. Obviously that is very optimistic, but Sale is very highly thought of.
  9. Why not pinch hit here and let Morel play 3B in the ninth?
  10. Ducks on the pond with one out and Hawk is hoping for a wild pitch. Tells you what even the eternal optimists think of Rios' chances.
  11. They had the season ticketholder party today and let us take some cuts in the cages between the Sox clubhouse and dugout. I was making some solid contact. I think a couple might have wound up in the seats.
  12. So Quentin is the only White Sox to homer since the ASB.
  13. Put Dunn 8th and have him bunt a lot to try to move runners. If he can't get the bunt down, so what? He'd most likely whiff anyway.
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) I was thinking the same thing with the Rasmus rumors. Is he in the pen? I wouldn't put too much into it. Thornton has pitched in 3 of the last 4 and Sale has had 3 days off.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) You obviously chose not to read the line about the .860 OPS as a full-time CF at age 23. What team (realistically) could give us more for Jackson than Rasmus? You have to wonder why a team would give up a guy like Rasmus if he was anything near a sure thing. Usually young hyped up guys who get traded wind up be dissappointments. See Young, Delmon.
  16. Jay Cutler's wedding is off? Say it isn't so.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Its a waste. Whatever. If he got lucky the bat would have somehow hit the ball and it would have probably been foul and the Sox would still have a runner on base. It was worth the gamble of a strike.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Why swing? He threw the bat at the ball hoping either to A. make a little contact so the guy wasn't a dead duck or B. distract the catcher.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) Wow Omar blew that one. It was a pitch out on a hit and run.
  20. Seems the opposition picks up the White Sox signs fairly easily. Either that or Ozzie is way too predictable.
  21. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) We're just pathetic. After that gift last inning we respond with this?! A walk and a single? BTW your herpes thing is kind of funny. I was awakened last night or early this morning by my neighbor's girlfriend screaming at him telling him he gave her herpes.
  22. The White Sox haven't drafted well in recent years, so you have to go outside the organization if you want to win. Beckham and Sale were 2 guys anyone on Soxtalk could have drafted. Its about time the White Sox scouting department comes up with a 5th round gem.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) They're not giving any update regarding a start time on the radio or on TV there? The weather report says it's not raining. they are waiting for another front to come through. They don't want to play 3 innings and screw up the pitchers.
