  1. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) The problem is that it was stated at the beginning of this season that if the White Sox didn't win to create a big interest in the fan base, they would have a hard time being a profitable organization. They aren't going to want to pay for these big names if the fans don't want to. And, if KW can rebuild on the fly while still remaining competitive this year instead of being slightly more competitive and imploding as an organization in the off season, I'm all for it. Now, if they're willing to keep spending to keep "filling" in our holes, I'm good with them staying pat right now too, but I just can't see us continually raising our payroll without actually generating much in the way of results. Therin lies the problem. If you think the GM even when given more money to spend cannot improve the team or at the very least are quite skeptical, shouldn't someone else be the GM?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) Not having to pay Ozzie would be enough for Kenny. I agree, but if Ozzie is managing in Miami next year, I'm sure KW would like something from the Marlins.
  3. If KW does send Quentin and Thornton or other veterans packing, it is imperative the return works out. If its garbage, he needs to be shown the door.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) They were also a far better team in 1997 than they have been this year. Offensively, no question about it, or for Frank Thomas, no doubt about it. Pitching-wise, they were brutal. They had Alvarez and Darwin were their only starters with ERAs under 5.00, and their bullpen wasn't much better.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) How hard is it to type with Oney's dick in your mouth? I hope Joe has windshield wipers on his glasses to clear away Oney's goo.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Like the last couple years when we were in the same position and collapsed in August/September? So there will never be any reason to try to get better and actually win at the deadline because in 2009 and 2010 the Sox collapsed.
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Those of you who are pining for a firesale-for-prospects while 3 games out in late July have poor memories. The team they were behind 14 years ago was a far better team than the teams they are behind now. Trading your best players now and loading up on Matt LaPorta's and Jeff Marquezes would be a disaster.
  8. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) I'm not sold that winning the division means s***, they're not even .500 for starters, and im tired of the 2006 cards being brought up, ugh... Winning the division gives you a chance and with the Sox pitching anything can happen in the playoffs. If the offense suddenly starts making up for lost time, they would be a very scary team to have to play.
  9. KW doesn't want Ozzie to walk away, he just wants him to say Miami is the place he wants to be. Compensation baby. Maybe not Logan Morrison, but something worthwhile.
  10. 3 out 2 in the loss column after taking 4 of 5 from the teams in front of you is not the time to dismantle. As poorly as the Sox have played, it would be way worse than the White Flag Trade. Not. Even. Close. I think the Sox add a little something before the deadline. Its time to start winning.
  11. I think this guy really is a guy in his underwear in his mom's basement.
  12. QUOTE (The '05 Sound @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) I have a feeling ARam would just disappear if he got on a team in a pennant race. He has no pressure on the Cubs and hasnt in some time so he can go at his own pace and put up numbers, but I think we would be disappointed with what he would do with the sox. Does anyone really think, even if the Sox were to add a little payroll, that there's a chance in hell they would give Ramirez to the Sox? What if he helped win the WS. It would kill the Cubs.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) He was brilliant after acquisition last year, but this year, not so much. Maddeningly inconsistent and undependable. Gavin Floyd is terrible half the time, John Danks has stretches where he's bad, Mark Buerhle goes on binges getting lit up at the end of the year, their numbers are usually around where they always are, and if they went 11-9 with a 3.66 ERA you would say they were pretty good. Edwin Jackson, as much as many hated the deal was pretty good with the White Sox. I think Daniel Hudson, had the deal not been made, would have had a tough time matching those numbers.
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Yeah, he could be frustrating with high pitch counts/nibbling, but gave us a quality performance overall. I wish him well, and wouldn't mind seeing him back here again in the future. I believe that late in his career there's a chance he could evolve into a terrific closer. I also think he may have a Jose Contreras 2005-6 run in him. When his career is over, he'll be one of those guys most will say could have and maybe should have been so much more, but the numbers will still show was a pretty good pitcher.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) That would be almost impossible to believe. I agree. KW is going to have to send some cash if he ever wants to rid the Sox of that contract. Alex Rios is the on the poster for BUM.
  16. The other piece to this trade is De Aza. He's probably not all that good, but he did give the Sox the win today, and, more importantly, he gets Alex Rios off the field. If Dunn gets going, the Sox are in good shape.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) No, he got scooped by a guy with a direct source inside the White Sox organization. The guy in his mom's basement just happens to follow that guy on twitter. Good thing you don't know him or you'd be out some cash.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) And what exactly is a "power change up"? Ask Hawk. He explains it about once a week.
  19. In his one year with the Sox, Jackson was 11-9 with a 3.66 ERA. Not bad. Gavin Floyd has never had a season with an ERA that low. John Danks did once. Jackson was a lot better with the Sox than most realize.
  20. The Sox have Frasor/Crain in the pen. Cowley is pissed. Last night he said no way the rumor was true. He got scooped by a guy in his underwear in his mom's basement.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Holy f***! If they pick up Rios's contract, someone owes Kenny a BJ. Kenny would owe the Brewers a hot carl. I can't see this happening unless JR, who from what I hear has been very pissed off with Rios, just told KW to get rid of him no matter what the cost.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:53 AM) I'm somewhat surprised that so many people think "but Jackson is worth so much!" is a reason why this can't be true. Guess it kinda reminds me of the people who were mad that we didn't get more for Vasquez, as though teams really wanted him Its amazing when he pitches he sucks but if he's getting traded he so valuable. If Edwin Jackson for 2 months is worth as much as a lot of people claim, they really shouldn't be complaining about losing Daniel Hudson for him.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:56 PM) I never said every year. I think it's quite clear that people had high expectations for this team coming into the 2011 season and that most thought they were the favorites to win the division. Again, the GM doesn't go out there and pitch or hit. How is KW at fault for the struggles of Adam Dunn? Gordon Beckham? He signed them, he's ultimately responsible. Its about what you do now and in the future, not what you did in the past.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) Please, PLEASE tell me how a GM goes about doing this. One would be not claiming guys owed $50 million on waivers. Another would be drafting well, another would be ridding the organization of the proverbial sucking off of anything Minnesota Twins. Not overpaying medicre players. Being realistic in expectations. There are several things. You don't play the game on paper. KW has failed the last several years. That's just fact. I'm no fan of Ozzie either. I hope they both go. Its KW's job to determine how they will perform moving forward, not just by what they have done in the past. If that's all it took, the highest payrolls have the best GMs.
  25. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) They ARE pissed when they lose and guys who have struggled KNOW they are struggling and take accountability. But they don't carry it over to the next game. You can't stew about a loss forever. Go out and get the next one. That's not happening. If they are the paper champion every year like you claim, why isn't it translating on the field?
