Its official, if the White Sox don't win the WS, its not the lack of Jim Thome, its not Peavy getting hurt, its not AJ not hitting or Quentin hitting .230, its not Kotsay, its not the pitching staff's April and May, it all because of Joe West. Hawk has Frank taking shots at him now. This telecast is beyond nausiating.

One thing is for certain, the pitch Hawk wanted Kendall called out for swinging, if they said a White Sox went on that, he would b**** that it wasn't close.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) Ozzie said he was told by a KC clubhouse guy that they had a one hour window to play before the rain would come. Ozzie said one hour can be two innings or five innings you just don't know. If West had different information (a 15 minute window), then he is totally at fault for starting the game when he knew it would be rained out. One hour is probably about 3 innings, and you can stall. Remember, Ozzie is the guy who popped off during the 2005 WS that he was an inning away from putting a position player in to pitch during game 3. He probably was full of s***, but blaming the umpire is ridiculous. Even if he just went by the info he says he had, he was willing to lose Jackson after 2 or 3 innings, which isn't even an official game. I'm not arguing if it was wrong to start the game. Obviously it was. Blaming West and having Hawk say about 10 times, AFTER saying the Sox would win the Central, say West's call could be the deciding factor in the race, is ridiculous. Don't stoop down to West's level. The Sox had the same info he did. They are just as responsible for losing Jackson as anyone. If the game went 5, it was official. If that's what West had, I don't see why he would be at fault.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Thornton is shut down for a while. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2010/08...d_-_thornt.html I knew I wasn't seeing things when it appeared he was a little lame after throwing a pitch last week. Hopefully nothing too bothersome. If its been an ongoing issue, it really makes you wonder why they extended him in Minneapolis.

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) By that logic, the Sox should have stayed the hell away from Rios. Despite being bad, Hawpe's numbers this season are decidedly better than Kotsay/Jones. First off, how much did Alex Rios help the White Sox last season? Oh yeah, not at all. His numbers aren't decidedly better, .211 avg. .577 OPS away from Coors Field, plus he'd be changing leagues.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) [/b] There is about zero chance of that happening. When is the last time that Ozzie got a ton of praise for anything he did right? Not to mention, if we are talking about a move that no one has ever done before, that makes it literally an impossible standard. However, the Sox telecast and announcer shouldn't be zeroing in on Joe West saying he might have cost them a trip to the playoffs. Hawk said West was told they would be able to play for 15 minutes. If that is true, then I'm sure the White Sox had the same information. If it was such a lock to pour for 2 hours or so, why bother warming your guy up if you are just going to lose him? I'm glad the Sox won game 2, now they can't blame West, who is an ass without question. But don't blame him if you have the same information he had. Again, Jackson didn't have his command early, for all we know this was a blessing as they ultimately won the make up game.

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) Hawpe's career OPS+ is 116 and this has been his only "bad" season since '05. He would be an excellent fit as a DH and an occasional 1B because his numbers are better than Kotsay's across the board and his avg. is far better than Jones. So the Sox should go by what he's done in the past, not this season? There's a reason he's being released. Pass.

Castro was very popular with Mets fans asking he be played more. It turns into a disaster. He's a fine back up and has accepted that role. Maybe he gets a little more playing time if AJ comes back, but making him a regular would likely leave you dissappointed in the results.

I hope the Sox don't bring in Manny. Cheating prima donna is what he is. If anyone really think he's going to make himself a ton of money by actually trying in September, I think you couldn't be more wrong. The teams that overpay ridiculously have seen the act. I think even Manny knows this. He's 38, can still hit, but who knows if he really will feel like playing, probably off the juice, 3 times on the DL this year. Very unreliable at this point. His days of putting up the numbers he put up when he jaked his way out of Boston to LA are ova. In fact, Thome's numbers are better this year IMO, and Ozzie already said the Sox couldn't win with Thome.

QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Good job Comcast. High Definition sound never sounded so crisp. At least they have a HD picture. WGN never got around to fixing that part of their problem in game 1. -

Bobby Jenks is awesome. I hope the Sox give him $10 million next year. -
I googled and got his fanhouse page. One of his articles near the top of the page is him popping off about MLB being too soft on violence. How is this coward going to be able to say anything again? Perhaps there is a God and he is making this clown's career go down the toilet. One can only hope although admitted wife beaters like Neil Steinberg still have a forum to pop off and judge people.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Don't the White Sox have any say in the matter? Who wants to start game 1 of a double header at 6 in the evening, start game 2 at around 10, then turn around and play another game at 1 in the afternoon the next day? It'll be tiring just watching that on tv. The choice was to play a twi night DH and start before 6 having one game not televised and losing that revenue or to have a split DH, start one at noon and another at 6. I'm sure if you ask the players, they would much prefer to have it scheduled like its scheduled if they aren't willing to lose a televised game. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) Send down Kotsay and bring up Harrel or Torres. On a side note, didn't anyone on our side realize there was a very slim chance of getting last night's game in? Shouldn't they have just warmed up Pena and given him the start? Seems like a huge blunder to let Jackson warm up and pitch to a batter knowing that a huge storm was coming that would last several hours. We can't be giving up a guy in the rotation like that in the middle of a pennant race. I agree. If it were so obvious they wouldn't get the game in, and this was just a Joe West production, why have Jackson warm up at all? Apparently there had to have been some hope of getting the game in. When a game gets rained out in the bottom of the first inning, however, it does seem either someone was way too optimistic or way too stubborn. While this will put a strain on the Sox, it may have been a blessing. It was a very small sample size last night, but Jackson didn't have his command. You never know, he might have walked a few, then grooved a few and the Sox could have lost.

If Jenks didn't blow a 3 run lead in the 9th against Minnesota in July and Thornton was able to close out a game with the lead in the 10th the other night, the Sox would be 4 games closer to first place. These head to head games are huge, whether its the first week of the season or last with the division tied. Some games you are obviously going to lose, but you must win the games like the 2 they blew or chances are you will be thinking of those games when the regular season comes to a close. There's still a chance. Winning the last game in Minneapolis was a must, and they got it done.

The White Sox are the Weiner's Circle of MLB. Insulting their customers works for them so maybe it works for the Sox. I love reading Oney Guillen's tweets. When Kotsay was hot, the Skipper (that's what he calls his dad) obviously made the correct choice, the Sox were soft with Thome. Since Kotsay has been struggling and especially since the Sox have been losing lately has Oney saying the GM is responsible for the roster. I really wonder what Oney would do if his last name was Smith and he had to fend for himself in the real world.

QUOTE (11and1 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) So Ozzie reports to his pitching coach? I am certainly confused but I am confident you will go out of your way to straighten me out. Cooper goes through the other teams hitters with the pitchers and catchers every series. The bench does not call pitches. The catcher will drop the fingers, but ultimately the pitcher is responsible for the pitch selection. Some pitchers are picky, but a guy like Buerhle rarely, if ever, shakes off a catcher.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) No, and I will tell you why: 2005 World Series Championship However, it's quite obvious that they do play with far more confidence against us than we do against them. I have no idea why. I doubt many Twins players think of 2005 and the White Sox. -
