QUOTE (iamshack @ May 3, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) I'd be shopping the hell out of Greinke right now too. His value will never be higher. And by the time they are any good to where he can actually make a difference for them, he will be walking via FA. Then the cycle would continue. They would never be good. I would hate to be a Royals fan who grew up with the George Brett era teams with the way this franchise has floundered the past 2 decades. They need to keep their good players. When Greinke can become a FA, he's kind of a strange dude and perhaps except for the losing, likes the low pressure environment in KC, Royals ownership needs to sign him to a fair market contract. They have some decent young players, but it seems there is such a loser's atmosphere around there. I don't think their GM is going anywhere, but KC, if I were a young GM in waiting, would be a sweet job. They have some gpod young talent. Expectations are beyond low. The fans there are starved for something just decent. Guillen is coming off the books. I really think if you had a decent plan, I think you could really make quite a name for yourself as their GM, and if you were successful and they couldn't afford to keep what you have built, you would have your choice of other jobs.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Screw his contract. It wouldn't matter if he was playing for free. There's just no better option. 'Lexi? Rios? Beckham? This is an incredibly flawed roster. The best bet is that Juan can become at least 80% of what he's been his entire career (not that he's ever been that good. but he's never been THIS bad). He is better than he's shown, and he does get ridiculously hot at times. They are usually all singles, but I still think he winds up with better numbers than Pods this season.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) Like it or not, JP has no value on THIS team if he's not leading off. There's just no better option. Blame Ozzie/KW for the construction of the roster until you're blue in the face. It's just fact. I think he wouldn't be bad in the 2 hole especially considering Ozzie likes his #2 guys bunting. He makes a lot of contact for hit and runs, can bunt, and even though he has several so far this season, he historically doesn't GIDP much. 10 times is a career high.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 2, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) And before this year he had never gotten a chance to settle in at one position. We've never seen him play ONLY third for a FULL year. Not everybody can move around all over the place and provide an above average glove. Teahen himself before the season said as much. You want a cookie? Fine. For the first 21 games (19 starts) in his first season playing strictly one position, Teahen has not played a good 3B. Much more data will be required before any legitimate conclusion of his overall defense can be made. That's much more important to me than a 19 game sample size. Excuses are for people who fail. Obviously Teahen is full of excuses. Exactly when do we see him taking off as a great defensive thirdbaseman? He played a lot of 3B last year. Played it all of spring training, and a month into the season and he's still terrible. When does he become at least adequate? When his contract runs out? He's played plenty of 3B in his career for everyone to know he's not very good at it. Sort of like why the Sox don't put Paulie at SS. There is no sample size to judge, but you know he wouldn't be good there.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) We should have seen this coming, as PK was the guy that some of the posters on here with inside sources were claiming was content after winning the WS and just going through the motions. I don't buy that at all. He really has a very bad thumb. He took a shot in spring training and its apparently holding up well, but at some point he'll need another shot. Paulie is a professional.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Well, our own GM said he had a trade made for Halladay, but we couldn't come up with the funds. Plus JR already threw out the sticking their necks out financially line. Their advanced sale is lagging, big time. They really needed a decent start. I think the payroll will be -$15-25 million lower next year if this year is a total flop. That could be just attrition with Konerko, AJP and Jenks easily discarded, or it could be something bigger than that. As I posted in the gamethread, I received an out of the blue how are you doing how's everything call from my ticket rep on Friday. I have not received one of those in 7 years. I'm guessing they are very concerned.
-
I'd be shocked if this isn't Paulie's last year in a White Sox uniform.
-
Donny Lucy-he gone. Castro back. Donny did a solid job. I don't know if he could be solid for an entire season as a back up, but he certainly did his job.
-
I really don't know why anyone would have to look at UZR to determine what kind of 3B Teahen is defensively. Its pretty obvious.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) I think Twins have more hits today than we have all season. The Twins are going to realize they are playing outside pretty soon. They can't play worth a damn outside.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Two batting averages over .239 in the lineup today...and we can no longer say it's April. I think they only have 2 pitchers who have pitched at least 10 innings with an ERA below 4.50. One Sox starting pitcher now has an ERA below 5.30.
-
Just leave him in and give him his release after the game.
-
Its too bad they were joking with Williams when KW told him it wasn't going to work out.
-
Its good the infield was in. You don't want it to get to 11-0.
-
Hawk its 10-0 quit it with the umpire.

I missed yesterday's game due to a family function but was listening to Ranger's show on my way home. There were a few optimistic people thinking yesterday's win may be the springboard we have all been looking for. I tried to ignore the fact they blew a 4 run lead and had to comeback to win and was hoping they were correct. Now this.
-
The White Sox must really be worried about losing ticketholders. I received an out of the blue call from my rep for the first time since 2003 on Friday.
-
How many games could you reasonably expect the White Sox to win if they were traded to the AL East for Toronto?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) The whole team or the starters? The whole team. If it was just the starters, there would be even bigger problems. 44% of games giving up 6 runs or more isn't good for a team built on pitching.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) I'm all for a total overhaul of GM, Manager, and the rest of the coaching staff. This pitching staff is really disappointing so far this season, and there's been too many blow outs already this year. 11 games already giving up 6 or more runs.
-
Since every game the White Sox don't hit, Walker gets a lot of crap, when does Cooper start getting questioned? Walker didn't have the luxury of working with the greatest starting staff as the chairman called them, nor did he have resources spent on a bullpen. I'm not saying spending money on pitching is wrong, I just wonder how every slump is Walker's fault, and on the other side of the coin pitchers getting lit up has nothing to do with the pitching coach?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) Wow, I hadn't noticed that 6 of the 8 Cubs starters have a batting average over .300, and the 2 below .300 are Ramirez and Lee. I guess a hitting coach does matter? They matter but you have to have talent. I have yet to see a guy leave the White Sox and go on and do a lot better somewhere else. Walker's been around 7 years, you would think you would have a few. Why are Ramirez and Lee struggling? Is that on the hitting coach?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) Interesting, as that was the same thing that they said about Quentin's injury last year. I believe so. Why do players keep getting PF? Up until a few years ago, it was very rare, almost unheard of. Its gotta be the shoes..............
-
Nice play but it wouldn't have been a homer.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) What's the injury? That would be a shame if he had plantar fascitis. He stepped on first base awkwardly and his heel is so sore he can't put spikes on. They really haven't gone any further with it.
