Interesting poll in espn magazine polling MLB players on the manager they would least like to play for. Coming in at second least desirable was Sweet Lou with 29% of the vote. Coming in first with 30%, the Ozzeroo, and the big gripe was something he gets complemented on often. His face time on TV and all the attention he gets.

GT: White Sox @ Royals, 7:10PM, CSN, WSCR670

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 14, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) The reason that Nix isn't in the lineup (over Vizquel) is because Ozzie hates his approach at the plate. He'd honestly prefer Nix to put the ball on the ground then to take pitches and look to drive the ball. Nix hasn't shown he can hit RHP, that's why he's not playing. Vizquel has had some success against Meche. I don't understand him DHing though. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 14, 2010 -> 01:33 AM) I mean from the Bulls standpoint, to me it all depends on whether they could pull a sign and trade to get a 2nd star like Bosh to come in with Lebron. Because the Knicks can do that, and to me, that's gotta be their whole selling point to Lebron, pick which star you want to come and play alongside you. That and Lebron and D'Antoni have a got a pretty good relationship (although D'Antoni's stock is probably at an all time low now especially considering what Alvin Gentry has done in Phoenix). But if neither team can sign a 2nd max player, I think at least the Bulls have the advantage over the Knicks definitely when it comes to talent on the roster. Cleveland pretty much put everything towards winning a championship this season but going after veteran players they thought could put them over the top. Now it's backfired in a huge way. If you wer LeBron, would you rather play with Bosh or Rose? I think its a fair question that could be tough to answer. Noah may be the key. His improvement may help the Bulls in ways never even imagined. I do know this, if LeBron was cloned and played for both the Cavs and Bulls this year, the Cavs would have been knocked out in the first round, and I don't think Boston would have had much of a chance either. If the Bulls get LeBron, I think they dominate the East for at least 5 seasons. Some teams like Orlando will be great, but not great enough.

A lot has been made about LeBron being a big Yankees fan as a reason he may become a Knick. As a kid he was a big Yankees fan, Cowboys fan and Bulls fan.

Does it really matter who manages that team?

Quentin is trying to hit ever ball over the LF foul pole right now. He'll find his stroke, and will become more selective eventually, same with Beckham. The way its going, the way its going, when they start to hit, Konerko, Rios and Jones may struggle.

5/12 GT - Sox (14-19) @ Min (21-12) - 12:10p CSN

At the very least the Sox won't lose more ground this series and with Danks pitching there's an excellent chance they gain 2 games. -

That's probably why he's a one pitch pitcher. -

Sweet 5th for the Sox. Now the defense lets Freddy down. -
This is the same move the Sox made in 2007 when they signed Jeff Nelson, but they gave Nelson more money. Its really nothing to be pissed or excited about. He pitches in Charlotte, if he shows he's better than Randy Williams he comes up, if he doesn't, he won't last the season with the Knights.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) There's clearly a reason why it's getting out now. They're likely getting ready to cut him, and management doesn't want to take a PR hit by having it come as a surprise. Or they are hoping he's embarrassed and just retires so they don't have to pay him. Griffey has meant a lot to that franchise. He deserves a little better than this.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Griffey Jr. reportedly missed a pinch-hitting opportunity last week because he was in the clubhouse...asleep. That's the kind of veteran leadership Milton Bradley needs. As much as Griffey has meant to the game and has never been accused of cheating, I know this isn't exactly what you want out of a veteran on your team, but its a story that really serves no purpose leaking out of the Seattle clubhouse, except to embarrass him. I wish it never got out.

This Minnesota series is as big of a 2 game series in the beginning to middle of May can possibly be. The Sox really need a sweep, but winning one is imperitive. If they lose both they are 10 games back. How many White Sox teams have made up 10 game deficits and won their division?
-
This isn't the last bad slump Gordon is going to be in. Robin Ventura had an 0-40, Ryne Sandburg had something similar. He'll eventually snap out of this and be better for it. Sending him down serves no purpose unless there is a front line player taking his spot. That's not Nix or Vizquel or someone currently in Charlotte.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) But it's necessary. Both of these guys have to play like All-Stars in order for the White Sox to be able to compete in this division. They're not even close right now. I think if we kept them together, it would work to their benefit, in the long-term. They wouldn't feel "picked on" or scapegoated as much by the organization if it was "sold" to them in the correct, patient way that Guillen has demonstrated so far with Beckham. Ramirez, perhaps it's time for the FO to take the gloves off and show him a little "tough love" instead of babying and praising him so much. Ozzie has already called him out for "moping" and hanging his head so much in 2009. I thought Omar was going to take him under his wing and Alexei was going to take off? Vizquel is perhaps the biggest waste of a roster spot since Andy Gonzalez.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Not only that, but it'd be nice to see what we have with Nix. He's nice back-up insurance (along w/ Morel) for Teahen or could serve as part of a platoon FWIW. Or just trade bait. Some will argue CJ Retherford over Nix, but it's not merited by CJ's hitting in Charlotte this year, and Retherford doesn't have a "home" position defensively that he plays well. As far as Jenks, he's only had two outings the entire first six weeks of the season where he didn't give up a hit or walk. Both, of course, were in non-save, non-pressure situations. Jenks needs to be replaced until he shows he can get people out regularly again. Shingo was 8 for 9 in save opportunities with a 5.97 ERA in 2005 when he not only lost his closer's job, he lost his job.
-
As bad as the Sox offense has been, they are 8th in the AL in runs scored. They are 11th in the AL in runs allowed and ERA. Where are the Cooper threads?
-
Quentin looked better today. Maybe the Sox finally see Jenks makes everything way too interesting. This was a tough game to lose, the Sox actually played pretty well and scored some runs off a pitcher who has been tough this year. They finally played a game that wasn't boring in front of a large crowd, but with a bad result.

What a disaster this rotating DH NL lineup idea is...

QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) BTW, Ozzie hopes to get Omar Vizquel more ABs. Says he's doing a fantastic job. Season: GP 10 · AVG .129 · HR 0 · RBI 2 · Runs 3 · SB 0 Looks like a leadoff hitter to me. -
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) Ya, Gonzales doesn't make sense for us right now, financially and with Andruw doing decent in the DH role while being able to play all 3 OF positions. He makes perfect sense considering he makes $5 million a year this year and next and Jones has shown he can still play the OF. What doesn't make sense is SD dealing him since they are playing a lot better than anticipated.
-
QUOTE (chisoxt @ May 9, 2010 -> 05:38 AM) If Jake continues to pitch well, there is one big market team on the east coast currently not playing very well that could be a trade partner. Why would you want to trade away your better players? Peavy has been and probably will be an ace. This guy is a keeper. There is no reason to deal him unless you simply are not trying to win.

Dick Allen replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is simply no way an AL team should have Pierre and Vizquel in the line up at the same time let alone occupy the first 2 slots in the order. You can blame Greg Walker all you want for the team's offensive woes, but with the line up starting off Pierre, Vizquel, scoring 4 runs in 9 innings was really about as good as could have been expected last night. Former NFL Star Lawrence Taylor Arrested

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) LT will probably get off with just being busted with patronizing a prostitute if he can prove she told him she was 19. The pimp is going to be the one that is going to have the whammy come down. It doesn't matter if she told him she was 19 or if she looked like she was 40 or had a fake ID saying she was 23, if she is 16 and LT had sex with her, he's guilty. Now all the other stuff may help him with his punishment, but this is a guy with a bad history. I think he'll do some time. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) And there are also numbers that indicate that Vizquel is still just fine defensively. Sure, Vizquel has lost something, but when you were the very best, falling off can (and in this case, has proven) to mean you are just very good defensively. I'm no Jason Nix fan, but Vizquel playing 2B is really not an upgrade defensively and Omar brings nothing to the table offensively at this point. Nix may run into one.
