  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) cub is losing 6-2 I only bring this up as the BP Cup series begins Friday and any excitment for it is artificially going to need to be created by the media. Who would have ever thought how appropo the name of the BP Cup would become?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) 10-12 more years... Its a lock isn't it? Belle, Thome, Colon, both Alomars, Vizquel, all there good players eventually become White Sox. Grady Sizemore will be in CF at USCF after knee replacement surgery.
  3. Choo would look good in a White Sox uniform.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) I'd rather have him take the walk. Even in a good year, the odds of him hitting a HR on 1 swing are only a couple percent. He still may take the walk. When guys hit 3-0, they are sitting on a pitch in a certain location. Its not like a green light means automatic swing. What are the odds of the Sox getting 4 guys on consecutively?
  5. Good for Hawk. If this results in runs he can blame the umpire. The conspiracy the umpires have against the Sox continues.
  6. If Konerko came to bat with 2 out in an inning and had a 3-0 count, some on here would rather have him take and hope for a walk where it may take 3 consecutive hits for him to score, then to look for something in his sweet spot and hack away?
  7. Some guys won't hit 3-0 even if you let them, but you should give some the opportunity.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) You and Fathom are just parroting the exact conversation Stone and Hawk had last night. If you went to my original post, it was about Hawk being upset Ozzie doesn't give a 3-0 green light.
  9. Mark Kotsay is hitting .190 on the season. On June 6th, he is batting 5th and is the DH. I think from that information alone you would know the White Sox are having a terrible season. You wouldn't have to know Peavy's or Buehrle's or Floyd's ERA or Beckham's average or how many errors Teahen had.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) GMAFB. How thrilled were we last night when AJ grounded out softly with 3-0? How many 3-0 groundouts do we need? How many meat 88 MPH fastballs have we seen guys take right down the middle than hit a little grounder 3-1 on a slider? The current philosophy isn't working, if you haven't noticed? Also AJ isnt exactly a power hitter.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Really? You think part of the problem with these guys is not being sufficiently aggressive? Hawk will never rip Ozzie, but even he can't believe the power hitters don't get a 3-0 green light.
  12. After the Sox got rid of Thome and Contreras, 2 of Soxtalk's favorite whipping boys, who would have thought less than a year later, guys like Beckham and Peavy and Quentin would be the new ones?
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Is this the worst time in recent memory to be a White Sox fan? Take into account the state of the minor league organization and the fact that the 2007 team was crippled by injuries. 2007 was worse although this team can get there. People forget that team was battling for the worst record in baseball before a meaningless nice September run behind Jerry Owens and Josh Fields.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) I hope we lose this one like 15-2. Something drastic needs to happen. You really think it matters if they win this game 8-7 or lose it 10-8 or lose it 15-2 in regards to what the franchise is going to do? It would be like basing giving a guy a $50 million extension based on one AB. If Ozzie quits or gets fired, Joey Cora is the manager. If Greg Walker gets the shaft, Gary Ward is coming in, and that already turned out badly.
  15. What occurs most in a telecast Stone saying "very lively ballpark" or Big Hurt with "no doubt about it"
  16. Yeah Hawk, if he played 3 feet more shallow he would have had no shot at that.
  17. Omar Vizquel has a better OBP this season than Ozzie Guillen had with the Sox and is only .005 lower than Luis Aparicio's career OBP.
  18. The thing is if they win today they have less of a chance to win on Tuesday. Maybe they would just rather win Tuesday. Make no mistake about it. This is a good ballclub. They just haven't found their stride yet.
  19. 3 runs isn't enough to win this game, but when you get a coaching visit to the mound 1 out into the game, its not a good sign.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Again, this has been going on since at least 2001 IMO. I agree. The roster on paper looks a lot better than the roster on the field. That said, there were plenty of "experts" and I'm not including Soxtalk posters who didn't think too much of the 2010 team.
  21. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) At this point, it'll be much, much better for this franchise if we lose. I don't believe in "moral" victories. This team should not be happy at ALL about losing 2/3 to the f***ing Indians at home. What would be better for the franchise is that they win today and go on a 15 game winning streak. That's not going to happen, but losing for draft position in June rarely can be seen as good for the franchise.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) Well I'm not saying bring these guys up now. I'm saying bring them up in late July. And I don't care who they bring up...whatever guys are the most ready, bring them up. That's all I'm saying. If players merit a call up, I with you. If they don't, play out the string with what you have. I'm sure we will see Viciedo in Chicago this year, and I'm pretty sure Pauly will be gone by August unless something unexpected like winning starts happening.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Ok, so you two are advocating we don't bring anyone up and just play out the second half of a terrible season with the same guys that are failing now. What the hell does that accomplish? If Flowers gets back on track, call him up, but calling him up now would be like sending Lindsay Lohan into a room filled with vodka and cocaine. There would be nothing to evaluate. You already know the result.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Because we will most likely be 48-66 at that point, so we may as well use the opportunity to evaluate our kids a bit. You'd rather watch Donny Lucy and Ramon Castro? Like Owens and Fields were evaluated in 2007? Flowers and Danks should at least show they are ready to play in the big leagues before getting an extended look. They have been terrible in AAA. If you already know they cannot succeed, it does no good to call them up.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) I think "stupid baseball player" is a bit of an overstatement....airhead or space cadet, maybe...but he makes up for a lot of that with his athleticism. Do you really believe that negative outweighs all the positives he brings? As I said he's a bargain, but he's not as valuable as his OPS would lead you to believe. Throwing out runners is almost impossible on a fairly close play when he's covering because he gets so far in front of second base. His positioning still leaves a lot to be desired, although I can't see where the dugout can't get his attention and tell him to move. He doesn't situationally hit. If there's a guy on second and nobody out, he's not looking or thinking right side. Konerko saved him from a 40+ errors season last year, and probably has saved him 6 or 7 additional errors this year with horrific lazy throws. If the Sox had better hitters at 3B and DH, they could easily afford a lesser hitter at SS. Their pitching staff would be much better off. I wouldn't give him away. I just wish the Sox played him somewhere other than SS, even with his occassional spectacular play.
