Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
The huge problem with trading Cabrera today is the White Sox would be short on a day they play Minnesota. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. It still makes no sense. I don't understand why the White Sox would assume Griffey's contract even if it meant getting a mediocre reliever for next to nothing. Weathers or Affeld aren't worth taking on Griffey's money if that is what is happening.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) So you are saying a young player locked up for the next several years has lost his place on a team because we got an overpaid, over the hill corner OH/DH for a few months? Wow, I guess you really do think KW is retarded. He obviously would get something for Swisher. Street + something else perhaps. Getting Griffey and not moving one of the others makes zero sense, unless of course, Griffey gets hurt in a few days.- Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:08 AM) There has got to be more going on than just prospect-for-Griffey. I don't think there is any question about it. I think if Griffey accepts one of Konerko, Dye,Swisher or Thome either has a major physical problem or is going to get traded, and Swisher seems to me to perhaps be the guy.- Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
I agree with Stoney. If Griffey comes here, I think Dirty Thirty is gone, and since Beane loves him, maybe back to Oakland.- Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
KW had Carl Everett playing CF in 2003. No way Griffey is worse than that.- Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
The only reason they would get Griffey is if either something is physically wrong with either Konerko, Swisher, Dye or Thome, or KW is flipping one of those guys for a piece.- Sox most aggressive team seeking help
Buster Olney was just on espn and said the White Sox are talking to Oakland about Street and dangling Cabrera out there and the Dodgers need a SS. I don't understand getting rid of Cabrera if you're not going to get a starter. Richar and Getz don't do it for me for the stretch run.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) got that one already. Ryan Spilborghs may be good one day also. Lou Boudreau's mother was Jewish. Did you get Hirsh?- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
Jason Marquis is Jewish.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
Does anyone think the Brew Crew may make Sabathia or Sheets available? The Cubs are crushing them.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) Oy HAwk is now praising PK walks. Nick Swisher is the only player who should be praised for drawing a walk.- Rangers interested in Masset?
QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) Masset did start off the year throwing well. But he has done little lately. If the sox can't trust him [which it seems to be the case--he's barely throwing even in blowouts], and he continues to slide, they'll have to release him. If Texas wants him, good luck. What I'm talking about is options in the minors for Masset's spot. Haeger, Egbert, Ohka and Broadway have all thrown in relief this year in AAA. While Broadway may not be ideal, he or another SP in AAA would likely be a better option than sticking w/ Masset. I would think you wouldn't just want to bring up someone who may be better than Massett. I would think you would want someone who has a decent chance of success. Broadway has been getting lit up for a while now.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) They seem pretty split over at Marlinsbaseball.com on the reported Manny deal. It seems like half dislike it either because they love Hermida or think Manny is a cancer and the other half know they still have plenty of corner OF prospects left and Manny is still one of the best hitters in the game. Considering their low payroll, I thought the Marlins should have gone hard after ARod last winter. A Miami native, an up and coming team, he would have done nothing but help them get the park they want.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) Is Eric Byrnes the most obvious juicer of this era that hasn't been called out for it? He's had some brutal years.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) 28 HR, 83 RBI, 49:62 BB:K, .277/.377/.552/.930 The D-Backs would love that one back.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) They're probably getting Greg Maddux. Supposedly they are working on something bigger and Maddux is on the backburner. I guess that means Maddux will be a Dodger in 5 minutes.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
Save some runs for tomorrow.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I wouldn't..... I agree. In the unlikely event he gives up 3 or 4 next inning it could leave a bad taste in his mouth. Let him leave with a large lead and a great feeling and a little breather until next time.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Wouldn't it be smarter to talk him up if we want him traded? Teams aren't listening to Hawk to determine how Cabrera could help them. The PR machine is for Sox fans who may be up in arms the starting SS and lead off guy, a guy who has been talked up all season, is shipped somewhere else at the deadline. Don't think for a minute, unless a guy like Roberts or Ellis and another piece come back, it wouldn't be considered White Flag II by many, even though it could make sense.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (shawnhillegas @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Does Hawk have problems with OCab? I don't know. I do know he went out of his way to mention a less than stellar effort throwing the ball to first that resulted in an out anyway, at least 3 times. I think he's preparing, just in case.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Why do people keep saying OC will be traded? WHo will play SS?? Ramirez.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) The bigger question is with Hawk have a jab or two for DJ in the booth if he isn't coming back. I really doubt it. I think Hawk really likes DJ.- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
It will be interesting to see what Ramirez does when the Sox get him stronger. Will he hit more homers, or will they just land 10 rows deeper?- 7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) So is this Cabrera's last game with the Sox? Doubtful, but Hawk got a jab or two in just in case. - Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
