Royals vs Sox...Part Trois - Sweep Edition
As much as I think Broadway sucks, its not his fault his on a mound he has no business being on. The guy has an ERA over 7.00 his last 10 AAA starts. The major leagues, even the KC Royals, is not who he should be pitching against right now, especially given the implications of every White Sox game from here on out.

Royals vs Sox...Part Trois - Sweep Edition
Call me crazy, but if a guy hasn't been able to get people out for a couple months in AAA, chances are he will have trouble getting people out in the major leagues. This one is on KW.

After Washburn and Byrd, KW is looking at this list
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) The expectations over Dotel here are mind-boggling. This guy is a shell of what he was in Houston, where he would hit 97 on the gun regularly. He hasn't had a quality season since blowing out his elbow a few years ago. He struggles to hit 93 now and doesn't have a good offspeed pitch to make it effective. He had a surprisingly nice first couple of months, but is it really a wonder that a guy with his lack of stuff is getting hit? The cracks were evident even before Linebrink went on the DL. Considering he has 74 k's in 53.2 innings, has allowed 37 hits and has a 1.14 WHIP, I'll take the shell of what he was at Houston. He may struggle to hit 93, but it appears for the most part AL hitters struggle to hit against him.

Broadway to start Thursday (8/14)
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) And you know this for sure because...? Given that their surgically-repaired "ace" got demoted to the minors earlier this year and has a long history of injury problems , that Livan Hernandez was so bad that they put him on waivers, and that nobody else in their rotation has thrown 150 innings in the bigs before, I think that the Twins have more than a few reasons to go after a veteran starter with a ton of playoff experience and a very manageable/tradeable contract. And, of course, the only team potentially keeping them out of the playoffs is also looking for another starting pitcher. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it's pretty silly to completely dismiss it. Because Carl Pohlad is the cheapest owner in sports. Don't forget, Washburn who has been mediocre at best the past 2 or 3 seasons, is owed over $10 million for next year. To say Washburn's contract is manageable, maybe, tradeable? They seem to be having a hard time doing it. They didn't claim Paul Byrd and he is owed nothing in 2009. That's more manageable.

Broadway to start Thursday (8/14)
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) I think the Sox know alot more than any of us. Broadway is a SP and Carrasco is a bullpen guy.Why would you switch it around ? Let's see what Broadway actually does before all of us "scouts" say he has nothing. Most people just judge a prospect by how hard they can throw. I think it's kind of funny in this thread that Gio's fastball topping out at 92 is great while LB's topping out at 92 is not so great. He can't be any worse than the crap Richard threw up there and most people were looking forward/wanting to see him pitch. Broadway may end up stinking but do you really think if the Sox thought Poreda or Egbert gave them a better shot at winning that they would be up here instead? Carrasco has been great in the bullpen, I like the fact the Sox will keep him there. Chances are, he'd be a mediocre to bad starter. He pretty much has been one his entire career. There's no reason to weaken the bullpen to have him struggle as a starter. Leave him where he's had success. As for Broadway, this is just sad. One thing about it though, I bet if Broadway fails, his career as a White Sox will not extend beyond 2008.

Broadway to start Thursday (8/14)
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) It's possible, but there are quite a few teams in front of us, including the Yankees and Twins. I don't think that the latter would let Washburn get to us. Yes they would. They have no interest assuming that contract. The Yankees may have claimed him. Since they were interested in him before, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Broadway to start Thursday (8/14)
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Broadway has some of the tell tale signs of a guy who was "bored"/working on stuff in the minor leagues. The problem is, his stuff isn't good enough for me to trust that was the case and thus he'll be solid in the majors. I hope I'm wrong though. What were the tell tale signs you speak of? He started off great, but has been horrendous for a while.

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
I look at this year a little differently. If someone told you March 30th that as of 8/13: Both Buerhle and Vazquez would be below .500 Bobby Jenks would have 22 strikeouts Scott Linebrink would miss over 1 month of the season There would be more than a couple posts that Octavio Dotel shouldn't be used in close games Nick Swisher would commonly be refered to as "dirty .230" Paul Konerko could only wish he was hitting .230 Joe Crede's back would go out again and Juan Uribe would be the 3rd baseman Jim Thome didn't hit the first 2 1/2 months Wasserman,Russell,Carrasco,Broadway would all be recalled from Charlotte. Contreras would be hurt. Win 7 games and be lost for the season. Horacio Ramirez would be acquired because Boone Logan was horrible. Cabrera would have several issues with teammates and management. I don't think anyone would say first place was even a remote possibility. Everyone mentions the Sox faults, and obviously there are many. A lot of people are afraid of the Twins, and maybe rightfully so, but everytime they grab first place, the Sox take it right back. This team is different. They haven't got all the breaks.

Mea Culpas for ALL!
I was wrong with Floyd, liked Quentin, but didn't think he'd be a possible MVP this season. I still like Uribe.

Gavin Floyd is bald.
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Yeah maybe he thought he could win 12 games, but if he didn't he was going to win a bet with Jenks, who knows what Jenks would've had to do. Eat a salad?

Sox Trade for Franklyn German
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Childers is posting ridiculous numbers in the minors... whats his deal? Does he just not have any stuff? He's a 33 year old AAA roster filler.

I think this guy is for when rosters expand. They probably are praying they can get him some control.

How would some of these guys clear waivers?

I saw him on the news last night. He looks like Kojak.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:44 AM) Prospects that are liked: Minor league stats dont matter Prospects that arent: Hard hat day at the Cell Considering Broadway has allowed 48 runs and 13 homers his last 65 innings in AAA, I think hard hats is a good idea.

Sox to put in a claim for Washburn?
I'd rather have Byrd.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) Getz and Broadway set to come up, per WSCR. Broadway = That is beyond scary. I've been optimistic about this team this year, perhaps very uncharacteristically, but if Broadway gets a rotation spot, I believe the Sox chances just went significantly lower. Its a garbage move.

Carmines vs. White Sox 6:05 CT WGN
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Who is he supposed to bring in? Are we just supposed to pitch Dotel and Thornton everyday? You just can't do that. You got to use whats out there. If what's out there can't get it done then KW has to get somebody else. Thornton has thrown 3 pitches the last 4 days.

Carmines vs. White Sox 6:05 CT WGN
I was meeting a friend at the Westin today, and a bunch of "Red Sox nation" were in the lobby because the team stays there. Francona was sitting on a couch in the lobby and not one of them recognized him. Even Cub fans recognize the manager of their team.
