  1. The sonofsamhorn board must be brutal right now.
  2. How much more of Logan does the White Sox hierarchy need to see?
  3. DJ is on a roll tonight. Anytime you can throw in Strat-o-matic baseball, you're having a good telecast.
  4. Is the Ken Griffey Jr. in CF experiment officially over?
  5. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) So whaddaya think DA?.... Poreda? Broadway? Give Richard another chance? Waiver wire deal? Poreda is the best bet IMO in house, if they don't make Carrasco the 5th guy. But rookies in pennant races except for some rare exceptions, usually don't work out. Broadway isn't going to help. His ERA is over 7.00 his last 10 AAA starts. Wes Whistler would be BP in the major leagues. KW might have to bite the bullet and ask Uncle JR to approve picking up $ for mediocrity like a guy like Washburn.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) So who's the 5th starter now?.....Broadway? If its Broadway, God help us all. They might as well let fathom toe the rubber.
  7. Youkilis is in my top 5 of most annoying players, and I really have no reason. It must just be the bald head and thick goatee.
  8. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) I dont want Carrasco for a starter, he is great in the pen. He's also about a week or 2 away from going on a streak so bad, everyone will want him released.
  9. That's a shame about Contreras. I wonder how much the down time will affect him getting ready for next season. I supposed Freddy's 86 MPH heater just got a lot more attractive to KW.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 03:51 AM) This kind of bluster is all fine and good, and most of the high-profile (first and second rounders) player we haven't signed have turned out to be blessings, but we're talking around $2.23 million here. We gave Joe Borchard well over twice that amount for nothing. KW needs to realize we're one of the clubs that's most vulnerable in terms of our farm system and the age of our roster, and that just because he's been able to piece together a contender this year, it doesn't mean this club is well-suited to be competitive 2-3 years down the road. It's really hard to imagine anyone but Quentin, Ramirez, Danks, Floyd and Jenks being around at that time...and even Jenks is iffy, because the White Sox typically don't like to pay $10 million plus per year to relievers and Bobby's going into arbitration I think. As much I would like to believe that Anderson and Fields will be starters and that Poreda will joining the rotation, I'm not convinced. When KW looks at his "mythical" big board, I wonder if there are any starters in our minor leagues right now? Maybe Shelby or Getz at 2B? Maybe Martinez or Silverio at SS, where we would seem to have less of a need now with Ramirez. So if we don't want to have one of the worst teams in baseball, we need to get this signing done. I'm still not convinced we would have been better off with Gio Gonzalez and Sweeney, and you could make an argument for Young over Vazquez simply because Young is affordable and athletic, and because we haven't been able to fill that position since Rowand was here...and even when Rowand was here, we kept trying to improve that position, refusing to see Rowand as an everyday player. Its all bluster. He speaks about losing developmental time, yet then says if he doesn't sign, no big deal, will just take the pick next year. That's losing even more developmental time. The problem I see is if the White Sox put a line in the sand at the slot figure. If he didn't sign, even if they got the same pick next year, signability, rather the acceptance of slot money for that pick next year would come into play meaning the Sox most likely wouldn't pick the best player on their board, but the best player willing to agree to their terms. That sucks, but I don't think it will come down to that. Not signing Beckham would be a disaster IMO. I believe they will sign him and probably Danks as well, although I don't think Danks is nearly the player a lot on this board think he is.
  11. I read something in a Philadelphia paper of all places that Joey Cora is going to get a lot of consideration for the Seattle job after the season.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) I want the option to vest. He will be a very cheap, big bat. I love him, but cheap is something he won't be. It makes absolutely zero sense Philadelphia would pay more money if 3 seasons after the trade, the White Sox loved his play so much they picked up his option. It makes no sense that the better a player you trade away plays, the more you have to pay.

  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) Wouldn't that be counter productive? Jim Thome has been this team's 3rd best hitter, sitting him down in favor of a lesser hitter is only going to hurt your team. If his option vests, the Phillies should pay about half his salary so if you don't want him around you sell him off to an AL team on the cheap. I'm sure there would be some interest. Its counter productive tonight and its happening. While Thome isn't very good against lefties, he's doing much better this year than Griffey, and he's been hot lately. I don't think the Sox get any more money for Thome anyway. Everything I have seen said they received $22 million and he had $46 million left on his deal. I don't know why Philadelphia would agree to thrown in even more money if it meant Thome was productive enough to warrant exercising the option.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Is Thome hurt or just getting the night off? Do you think one reason they got Griffey were games like this to sit Thome down and try to keep that option from vesting?
  16. Its 3.1 plate appearances. Bradley has walked 64 times, Alexei 9 or 10. He will need 502 plate appearances by the end of the season. It could be close if they move him up in the line-up.
  17. One thing, if the Sox scored a run or 2 or more in the 8th, no way we see Meat Wassermann in the 9th.
  18. Wassermann needs to go. I'm sure he'll be gone on Saturday.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Ramirez has the fastest hands on this team...it's not even close. He knows how to make adjustments from pitch to pitch better than most of our MLB veterans...which is pretty amazing, considering the lower level of competition in Cuba (more or less A ball). Plus he's up in the front of the box. Takes some of the break off breaking balls.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) Why didn't the White Sox go after Chad Bradford? I'm guessing $. Its too bad. I think he's there's a good chance he outperforms Huston Street the rest of the season.
  21. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) What's easier to hit...an 85ish mph pitch you're looking for a 98 mph heater? He throws that pitch 40-50% of the time. If there were 2 out and he was on first or second he might be pinch run for. No reason to do it with one out. Its not worth losing the bat with the small, although it happened, chance that there will be a play a fast runner can advance 3 bases. He shouldn't have been sent, bottom line, and if everything remained status quo and he wasn't stupidly sent home, he would have eventually scored. btw, I responded to the wrong post.
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) My argument isnt that Cox did the right thing--- it's that this board is quick to pounce. If he's held up and then we dont score in the inning, Cox is attacked for conservatism. When the runner is thrown out by 20 or 30 feet, the coach didn't do the right thing. Especially considering the score of the game and the situation.
  23. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) This might sound a bit extreme to some people, but IMO he seriously has hurt this team and the team's chances this year. He seriously needs to be fired. He's been bad both ways. Didn't he hold up Cabrera the other day but he went through the stop sign and basically scored without a play?
  24. What was Cox thinking?
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) The pitching match-ups for the White Sox are not good at all this weekend. Who cares. As long as we get to see Ken Griffey Jr. play in a White Sox uniform all is right in the world.
