7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
I'm pretty sure Fields wouldn't have been hitting and running with guys on 1st and 2nd. Maybe a bunt.

7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
Hawk mentioned Cabrera's non-chalant throw at least 3 times. I just hope the team takes the high road if they deal him and there were problems, because since the call to the pressbox story leaked they have insunated its been peaches and cream with him.

Rangers interested in Masset?
What's laughable is that some actually mention Lance Broadway as a Massett replacement. The guy has a 6.51 ERA his last 10 starts. I don't know what throwing him into the mix accomplishes unless you are masochistic.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Swish is pretty decent at scooping...plus I think has better range...AND can make the throw to second. As for infield/outfield enthusiasm...have you ever played on the infield or pitched. I have...and once on a team that pretty much had the same deadpan demeanor as Paulie...and it was terrible. Not knocking Paulie for it or anything...but it makes a difference IMO...especially with a young guy next to you like Lexi. Cal Ripken had a pretty deadpan demeanor. So did Harold Baines. Ramirez isn't affected by Konerko at all, in fact, if anything, Alexei needs to cut down on the flash a little bit IMO.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Any real surprise? Remember the whole lineup change rant in Tampa? Give him to the end of the roadtrip. The quote the Score had was from before the game yesterday. Paulie had a couple of decent ABs, so its not like Ozzie changed his mind this time.

Something's brewing...
The most interesting thing is Cabrera being very available. Considering KW is going for it, it would seem if he was the leader and player we are lead to believe, he would be untouchable even if Ramirez can play SS. I think there's a lot more bad that we haven't heard about him.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) I don't see why some people think this team is dead without Paulie. He's been crap all year and we are in first. We played awesome while he was on the DL. Back in '05 did anyone think the team would be a winner let alone wire to wire missing Frank pretty much the whole year? The reason why they were winning wasn't because Paulie wasn't playing. It was the pitching. Most find it rather obvious that the pitching had to come down to earth at least a little bit. Now they need to score runs. They need Paulie to snap out of it. Its unlikely Wise will keep up the pace he's on, and offensively if Paulie is on his game,he's one of the better hitters on the team.

Something's brewing...
The lack of prospects is a thorn in KW's butt right now. Whoever thinks its not important to have a decent farm system, or at least have several guys who are projectable with some upside, they are worth players when you need them, even if they never pan out.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
I still think this quote was the pre-game quote Ozzie had when he said Konerko would be given several days off if he determines it necessary he get taken out of the line-up. He mentioned he would clear his mind and take a lot of extra BP. I wouldn't be surprised if Paulie is in the line-up tonight, much to the dismay of most of the posters of this site.

Two Cuban players defect in Edmonton
QUOTE (Cubano @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) This guy is 17 or 18 years old. You feed him well and when he turns 20-21 he should be hitting 95 MPH. Also, in the USA players are taken care better as oppose as Cuba and Japan. In Cuba, they overuse pitchers. Cuban baseball minds had not have a chance of screwing him up yet. Remember, right now there are three young cubans waiting to sign with somebody. They are good prospects though 3B or RF Dayan Viciedo is more developed than these two. Viciedo defected around two months ago. There is no issue with age here because they can not lie about their real age. Viciedo was in the junior team last year and was part of the cuban roster for the WBC # 1. He was there to get some grooming for future tournaments. The scouting reports on Viciedo are mixed. He supposedly has put on a lot of weight and will probably be a 1B/DH. I read one report were they feel he will have a Livan Hernandez body.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
Unless this is a new quote, I don't think Konerko is getting benched right now. He looked good his last couple of ABs yesterday and has hit Hernandez well this year. Ozzie did say yesterday if he sits it will be for a while. I was under the impression that he didn't think the time had come yet.

What the hell happened to our pitching/defense?
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) Maybe you guys that see him play every game haven't noticed, but has Paulie gotten slimmer and slimmer since 2005? Am I nuts? I don't think so. He does look thinner when he shows his socks, his pants get baggy and it makes his legs look skinnier. I don't see any weight loss in the torso or the face. His face gets real thin at times.

White Sox vs. Twins
Here's a situation where one of Swish's walks would be as good as a hit.

White Sox vs. Twins

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) There is a better chance of Porky Pig becoming president Not to be political, but some would consider it a huge upgrade.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Who are you wagering on playing third next year? Hopefully not Juan. I think there's a 70% chance its Fields, a 15% chance its Hank Blalock and a 15% chance its other.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (quickman @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) get used to it, you will see him all year next year. He is a strikeout king with no glove. Ron Kittle Jr. IMO.

White Sox vs. Twins
Hawk probably wonders every night before he goes to bed how the hell the Twins aren't undefeated. Why is he so pissed when the Twins take the lead? Every game he talks them up like they are the greatest team of all time.

White Sox vs. Twins
Alexei trying to hit the ball 500 feet.

White Sox vs. Twins
Nice job Paulie. That's 2 ropes in a row.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (quickman @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) He could have been Konerko and grounded into a double play on the first pitch. It would have put us out of our misery quicker.

White Sox vs. Twins
Thome is walking very gingerly back to the dugout.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Its amazing... before we were the best bullpen in baseball "ever" and now they give up at least a run a game.... There was no way they could have kept up the pace they were on. If they have to go 4 or 5 innings, you can't complain about giving up 1 run.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (southsidesoxfan1983 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) did BA get traded is that why he was taking out? No, Swisher PH for him because a righty was on the mound.
