  1. Its ridiculous to boo Konerko. Examine why you are booing him. Are you booing him because you think he sucks? Why does he suck? Is it because he has been hurt? Is it because he's getting older? Is it because he doesn't try? If you boo a guy because he's older and losing his skills or because he's playing hurt, you are a dope. I'm sorry, booing Konerko is so beyond stupid it makes me mad. I'm not his biggest fan, but he did help bring something to this town that actually made people cry tears of joy. You never have heard him b**** and moan about a contract, and he's never embarrassed his team or the people that call his team theirs. Some people should appreciate things. Some day they will be in a position where they will need some appreciation.
  2. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Is it disallowed, or just not often done? From Neyer's Transactions Primer: That makes it sound like it's allowed, just not 'cool'. Wouldn't happen, anyway. The Dodgers would probably rather hold onto him on the off chance he comes back this year. (Iirc, he's vowed to play again this year, not that it means much.) I think you have to wait until the player is off the DL. Hence, the PTBNL. I could be wrong, but I did read that once a long time ago.
  3. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) I didn't look into it but how does that work with compensation picks???????? I also believe you can't trade guys on the DL
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:33 AM) No offense to any individual person, but this whole "let's not bring up anything negative because we're in first place" response to even the slightest flaw in this team someone brings up is getting pretty obnoxious. It's almost as bad as the hypersensitive negative responses to everything in the first place. What's obnoxious is every time a guy goes into a slump, he's toast. Every time the Sox lose a game the season is over. Just look at the posts in the gamethread yesterday. Read Mike Downey's article about all the White Sox sucking. He did a good job listing all the complaints White Sox fans have made. Listen to Paul Konerko get booed by classless, clueless White Sox "fans". I've never seen a team in first place, playing way beyond any reasonable expectations get more s*** from their "fans" than this one. So 7 guys are in the top 64 of GIDP. Why does that warrant an "unf***ingbeleivable"? Its fine to b**** about things, I have done it plenty, at least have something to complain about. Should we complain Quentin added to his GIDP total yesterday?
  5. I wonder if they will put in temporary bleachers like they used to do for Bears games. I do know rooftops will be operating. I would be nervous shelling out money without an official location of the rink. there has to be several rooftops where the view would be obstructed.
  6. Move to Venezuela. If you can avoid the violence, you can drive all day. Gas is $.12 a gallon.
  7. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) I read it somewhere as well. His velocity was down to something like 89.5 mph from 90.1 mph. Here's what Buster Olney had to say: Huston Street, Athletics, RHP: Rival talent evaluators are concerned about his diminished speed, arm angle and ability to cope with left-handed hitters -- lefties are batting .257 against him, but with five homers in 70 at-bats. Oakland wants a decent return for him and, unless the Athletics get it, they'll be inclined to keep him until the winter in the hope of getting better return in the offseason. Sounds like its down a little more than you think.
  8. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) just expanding on a thought here: should Uribe and Cabrera get traded and Roberts comes back to the Sox, we can most likely expect Fields to be called up to back up Crede at 3rd, correct? Also, who would end up being the utility infielder/swingman? One of the possibilities is Alex Cora coming back from Boston. Unless KW has the other deals or another deal corresponding to it, he would be idiotic to trade Uribe straight up for Cora. Uribe is the better player, and is loved in the White Sox clubhouse. I wouldn't think it would be Fields myself. I think they would need someone who also could play SS.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) The idea would be that we get a better lead off man. Anyway, I'm not surprised to see this rumor. The fact that Uribe was playing 3rd yesterday, where we haven't seen him play in a while (have we?), should be a clue that they are show casing him. Crede's legitimately hurting. They wouldn't say anything about a back injury if they were making it up. With Ozuna gone, Uribe is the back up there. Juan didn't hurt KW's leverage with his play the last 2 days.
  10. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 06:26 PM) Yeah, let's trade our leadoff man. Good idea If they were to acquire Roberts, the #1 hole will be improved significantly.
  11. I think the White Sox should offer an open invitation to Bartman to throw out the first pitch at a game and give him free season tickets.(Several rows from the field) He could be a hero on the southside. Someone to look up to. A role model.
  12. Red Sox looking to acquire Uribe in deal with Chicago July 23, 2008 By Danny Knobler CBSSports.com Senior Writer Tell Danny your opinion! The Red Sox are deep in conversations with the White Sox on a trade that would send infielder Juan Uribe to Boston, according to sources. Uribe is batting just .225 in limited playing time this season, but his three home runs are one more than all Red Sox shortstops have hit. Boston shortstops are 28th in the majors in runs scored and 23rd in RBIs. It's not clear who the White Sox would get in return for Uribe, but one possibility is Alex Cora, the utility infielder who has fallen out of favor in Boston. The White Sox want to rid themselves of Uribe's $4.5 million contract, perhaps in hopes of rekindling talks with Baltimore about second baseman Brian Roberts. If the White Sox could acquire Roberts, or another second baseman, they could shift Alexei Ramirez to shortstop and trade Orlando Cabrera, possibly to the Dodgers. The possibility of trading for Roberts and then dealing Cabrera was first reported by FoxSports.com. Chicago is still looking for a starting pitcher to replace injured Jose Contreras. They could try to deal Cabrera for Derek Lowe, although the Dodgers don't have much depth in their rotation and would be hesitant to part with him.
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) No one can say definitely as of now sure they'll give it to that druggie. Sure, if he doesn't have a sharp dropoff it's possible, but I hope whoever is in the running for MVP by seasons end (whether it's Quentin or not) statistics and actual value are taken over a feel good story and one's ability to hit baseballs far in an exhibition game. It would be pretty hard to look away if he has 30 or 40 more RBI than anyone else, but if Quentin keeps it up and the Sox win, he'll have a pretty good shot.
  14. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) Reports out of San Fran say the Sox are one of the 4 still interested. Hell yea KW should attempt to get this guy, with the way Thorton (who i think will rebound) and Logan (i think he needs to re-do his approach down in triple-a) have been suckin Street will be that final piece to a bullpen that can be one of the best in White Sox history. Jenks, Dotel, Linebrink, Street. WOWZA! I read somewhere where Street's last outing raised a lot of red flags. He blew his 5th save, his velocity was down, and I guess his arm angle was lower than usual suggesting a possible injury.
  15. Obviously, it won't happen, but the whole idea of the 3 way would be for the significant prospects(s) going to Baltimore would be coming from the Dodgers. The White Sox could throw in a lower rated guy or 2. The reason the Sox could do this is because Ramirez is supposedly a better SS than 2B. If you look at range factor, zone rating and fielding pct. Roberts this year has been a better defensive 2b than Ramirez. So, I don't think you lose much, if anything defensively. You have a guy who is a better fit as a leadoff man, a spot where once again fathom pointed out when the leadoff guy struggles, so does the White Sox offense., and he's under control for 2009.If you think the White Sox should just go after Roberts in the offseason, I think trading Cabrera is trading 2 draft picks who you have to sign and develop vs. trading bonus already paid, established minor leaguers who have shown they have an excellent chance at a decent career. I'd give up the picks anytime. You'll also get picks when Roberts leaves, which could be around the time Beckham might be ready.
  16. And the Sox could have had a 2.5 game lead on Minnesota today.
  17. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) it WAS pablo Now ITS Konerko
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Yeah, I think Pablo was the emergency catcher, I have no idea who it would be if Hall and AJ both had to leave a game Konerko.
  19. KW needs to get Blum. Anything to end the Uribe era.
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Octavio should just be the whole bullpen If you read Soxtalk earlier this year, he shouldn't pitch in any close games.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Javy gets paid a lot of money. It would be nice if he could allow less runs than what the Sox score on occasion. As DAllen says all the time, he puts up the big numbers in terms of strike outs, but he struggles to actually win games. I wonder what Javy's stats are when his team is in first place or within 3 games. I think if he spent his entire career withw the Pittsburgh Pirates he would have a Cy Young or 2 right now.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) That's the problem. Waiting for the homer train. We need to be more aggressive then that In the 7th, I don't think you have much of a choice. If he swings and misses chances are one of those guys is out. Its just too bad hit hit into a DP. A pop out there and its probably at least 8-6 right now.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) The same Gavin who has an ERA of 4.85 in his last 5 starts? What? Javy Vazquez had a 4.84 ERA for the season in 2006, yet a lot were thrilled KW gave him $40 million. Maybe they should check KW's attic for duffel bags.
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Carlos GIDP. Why weren't two fast runner in OC and Swish not running? Hit and run would be nice, but NOOOO! When its 8-4 and a guy with 25 homers is at bat, I think you want to try and see if he can make it 8-7
