  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) Why do you keep saying "except for June"? Because Swisher had a great June. Except for June, he has been very, very bad. As I stated earlier, his .214 average in July is his second highest monthly average so far this season.
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) Swisher I have seen an improvement from. Konerko hasnt looked the same since 2006, Im sorry you disagree. In July, Swisher has 42 AB with 1 homer 12 strikeouts and a .214 AVG. Its a small sample size, but if Jim Thome does the same his next 42 AB, we will read countless posts how he sucks and is done. If that is improvement and satisfactory production then I would take my chances that Konerko can do better than that.
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) Right, and Konerko has been just wonderful Why can't you get it through your head that Konerko has been injured for most of the season. First with a hand problem and then the oblique? Have you looked at the back of his baseball card? Its pretty good. If Konerko is the garbage a lot of this board thinks he is, then so is Swisher. Instead of replacing garbage with garbage, why doesn't anyone have any better ideas?
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 08:54 AM) Vazquez and Contreras's situations are not comparable... please, just stop that. And if I'm challenged on that, I'm not going to bother explaining why because I shouldn't have to. I might as well be explaining why Carlos Quentin is not Jermaine Dye if I have to explain obvious things that people pretend not to know. They both started out pretty well but have been getting hammered for the better part of 2 months. You can't explain so you say its different. Why are they not comparable? The Sox only have to pay Contreras through next year. They have a bit longer with Vazquez. Javy Vazquez gets a break on this board because he gets a lot of strikeouts.
  5. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) Thats because when he did take over for Konerko, the team was much better, defensively and offensively. Since he's been back to stinking up the joint. Yet, he must play.
  6. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 07:41 AM) Im not digging up threads to oust Vazquez from 2006 because he couldnt make it past the 5th inning, but here are two threads about Swisher struggling and taking him out of the lineup http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 Did you read most of the posts? And you can't find anything on Vazquez and he's been just as bad as Contreras. Except for June, Swisher is having his finest month in a White Sox uniform batting average-wise in July. He's hitting .214 for the month. He's the guy everyone wants to replace Konerko. Most people on here are like little kids the day after Christmas.
  7. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) Are you kidding me? When Swisher was batting .200 there was bench swisher threads, and Vazquez has been a hot topic since he has been on the White Sox because of his inconsistent nature. You guys reserve your right NOT to boo, thats fine. Im not less of a fan because I would choose to boo a player for poor performance. Where are they? Contreras needs to be replaced. We see that just about every game. Vazquez has had a mirror image season, but the threads aren't there. Konerko, they guy that help bring a trophy to the southside, plays hurt, so he needs to be replaced and booed, and the guy who KW needs to replace him with immediately, has had exactly 1 good month in a White Sox uniform.
  8. If booing a guy busting his ass playing hurt makes you feel better about yourself go ahead. It just will make you look silly to the rest of the crowd.
  9. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) Not saying that Billy doesn't know how to assemble a talented team but in any of those seasons have the A's REALLY been a contender or just good teams without the juice to go all the way. I like what Billy does in working with a low payroll but he does continue to sell off all of his talent for prospects seemingly year after year. This goes all the way back to Giambi, Mulder, Hudson, Tejada, Haren, Harden, Blanton, anybody else that I've forgotten? I'm sure there is, the only big name player that they signed to a long term deal was Eric Chavez who has had his career derailed by injuries. Guess my point is that eventually you have to stop selling off your talent and take a shot at winning it all. In the late 90's early 00's he had a rotation of Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, and Barry Zito yet chose to break up the trio by trading Hudson and Mulder, at that point all three of them were dominant pitchers, if you aren't going to make a run at the title with those three anchoring the staff, Keith Foulke closing games and Giambi, Tejada, and Dye in the lineup then when are you???? He doesn't seem willing to take the necessary risk to make a title run. That is one thing that I respect about KW- at least he's got balls. Well he didn't go out and get Geoff Blum if that's what you're referring to. The money situation is a bit different in Oakland than in Chicago. He's taken several shots as the record would indicate. It just hasn't worked out. I know the criticism he gets is he builds a team that is great in the regular season but isn't built to win in the playoffs. I think that's totally unfair. He's now being realistic and going to try to acquire enough young, cheap talent to get his team on another run. I think he's a good GM and it would be interesting to see what he could do with a $100+ million payroll. Of course, sometimes guys are a lot better on the cheap.
  10. Is it the same statue that is being displayed in the first base coach's box during the home half of every inning at USCF?
  11. QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) Watching the WS grand slam "owns" no one, since it happened 3 years ago. Past seasons don't have any effect on this season, other than to show that Konerko is capable of pulling out of his slump. It's not bad to expect Konerko to perform, and to be upset that he's not. It's bad to demand crazy trades for him, or to release him, because he's struggled for 2/5 of a season. It's also silly to dislike him because he pops up or GIDP or hangs his head when he makes an out. If past seasons don't mean squat, where's the dump Vazquez and bench Swisher threads?BTW, if you don't think that video would own all the haters, you should go check it out on youtube. Konerko World Series grand slam. There's one that says original audio. Just watch it once and wonder how someone less than 3 years later thinks booing him is OK and claims to be a White Sox fan.
  12. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) and when those players reach the MLB and start playing well, he'll dump them off all beane cares about is saving money, while making money. not fielding a successful MLB product Too bad you don't look at results for the truth. He's been GM for 10 seasons. They made the playoffs 5 times. They had 6 90+ win seasons, 1 88 win season and 1 87 win season, all with a budget less than most teams including the White Sox.
  13. The Athletics get second baseman Adrian Cardenas, pitcher Josh Outman and outfielder Matthew Spencer. Its a great name for a pitcher.
  14. I have never understood booing your teams' players unless they are showing a lack of effort. How do you possibly justify booing Konerko when he's been playing injured almost the entire season? If I had any clue how to imbed youtube.com videos I would imped Konerko's grand slam during the WS listening to the guy shooting it going crazy. Konerko haters would be owned. Considering he followed up that season with a.313 35 homer 113 rbi campaign, and last year hit .259 with 31 and 90, booing him would show a lack of intelligence and while I don't know if it would be the low point for White Sox "fans", it certainly would be down there quite a bit.
  15. I once dated a girl whose mother, who constantly had to go out with us, picked up an Onion as we were on our way to lunch. She started reading it at lunch, and I swear to God thought everything in it was legit.
  16. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) That's why I'd rather a stopgap e.g Garcia if he's healthy, or a Broadway given a chance first. If you were going to target DC, do it in the off-season. Since April, Broadway has been horrible. If he's an option, the White Sox will be in trouble.
  17. Its nice to be ambitious, but this is an agency that couldn't manage its money even when they spent very little on track maintainence and let the stations get so run down its scary. They have a cost overrun of over $100 million I heard on their Block 37 mega-station. Where are they going to get the money for these new plans? Anyone who uses the CTA like me has to laugh. Its painful trying to get anywhere in a timely fashion using their "service". They need to fix what they have before even thinking about any bigger ideas.
  18. As long as the Sox remain in first place, I will consider them spending their money efficiently.
  19. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) other than the WS grand slam what else has konerko done for the sox? I mean besides the inning ending double plays of course. Wow. Great post. You're obviously a guy who pays a lot of attention and knows a lot about baseball. You really should be embarrassed posting what you did. You belong on the northside.
  20. As crazy as this may sound considering their seasons up until now, I'd rather KW take Blanton off Beane's hands.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I don't want duschsherer. Obviously, hee's pitching over his head right now. Plus you would be taking him out of one of the best pitchers parks and putting him in one of the best hitters parks. Plus, he will tire in the second half. I agree with you. It wouldn't surprise me that if he were able to make the rest of his starts this season, his ERA will be a lot closer to 4 than to 2, which would mean he would be pretty mediocre the second half. I wouldn't give up your top prospects for him. If they wanted a couple of tools guys and/or a guy like Richar, I'd roll the dice.
  22. The problem the White Sox have with acquiring this guy is just about every team needs pitching. This guy also doesn't make enough money to scare teams off. If Beane wants prospects, a lot of these teams can put together a more attractive package than what KW could whip together. Whether or not they want to is another matter. If Beane thought there was a reasonable chance this guy could continue to pitch how he's pitched, he wouldn't be available. He's had pretty good timing dumping pitching.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) I agree with those saying that, if JC starts the 2nd half badly, we go to a AAA arm. This worked pretty good in 2005, though that was a different situation. Richard looks damn good, Haeger has been solid lately, Egbert has been putting it together recently... there are options. And actually, the guy who has been consistently good all season for Charlotte is Wes Whisler (who supposedly doesn't have major league starter stuff). I think the over/under on Wes Whistler's ERA in the major leagues is 7.00. He has been getting some decent results at Charlotte this year, but if he's the Sox answer, they should just go to a 4 man rotation or try to stretch Masset.
  24. Why is Javy Vazquez not being worried about and not being replaced by AAA pitching? His season has been pretty similar to Contreras.
  25. The same things posted about Konerko were posted about Thome a few weeks ago. He's done, his bat speed is gone, etc. etc. You'll all be wrong again.
