  1. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Anybody hear where Fields is hitting in the line-up tonight? 8th
  2. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) So if Fields goes 0-4 with for K's, will this board implode on itself? Fields is Ron Kittle Jr. IMO. I don't think he'll provide much, but maybe he'll get hotl
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) Ouch. He has whiffed at least once in each of the seven games he's played since returning.
  4. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Could somebody save me the time of looking it up and let me know how Josh has been doing since he came back from the DL. I'm a lazy bastard.... 6-25 .240 AVG. 0 HR 1 RBI 10 Ks
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) But hasnt Jose said he DOES NOT WANT TO BE IN THE PEN?And we all know how sensitive he is when he doesnt have everything going his way. BS. This is a guy who defected from his country possibly never to see his family again. This "he's a pussy" crap needs to stop. He's a proud tough man. His marriage broke up. That could affect a lot of people. He plays with injuries and gets in trouble if he doesn't disclose pain. Mark Prior was called a pussy because he disclosed pain. He was upset Pablo left, but so was most of the team. He was fine when El Duque was traded.
  6. People forget Contreras had an ERA of 3.24 on 6/15. Perhaps the time off will calm his elbow down and he can find that form.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 12:24 AM) oh, and can we please 86 the term "under the radar"? I've grown so goddamn sick and tired of that word over the past 5 years, and every time I hear it, I just want to shatter a beer bottle over my head. Would you put it on youtube?
  8. Birmingham is fairly close to Atlanta. The Barons were playing the Braves AA affiliate. I really doubt they were scouting Poreda. They probably came to see their own players.
  9. It appears the White Sox want Cabrera gone. If they accomplish this while acquiring a lead off hitter fine. But if its just for Lowe, who I like, I think the team will really struggle. It will even get slower. What will be interesting reading is Cowley's write-up the day OC is gone.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) Ok so according to Cowley (he's on the Score right now) Duchscherer is NOT a priority for the Sox right now, he's plan C or D, the only reason the Sox would deal for Duch is if 1 or 2 other deals fall through. Does that mean they will break into when he's talking to announce the deal?
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) If that's the case, why are we giving them arguably our best position player prospect and arguably our best pitching prospect? I'm talking about his salary. Fields may be the Sox best position player prospect, but I can tell you this, if KW traded a guy having Jason D's season for a 25 year old in AAA hitting .248, not known for his glove work, striking out more than once per 3 ABs, this board would be livid. Obviously a career can be salvaged, but he's certainly not can't miss. But I also agree trading for this guy is dangerous. I don't think I'd give up Fields and Poreda for him.
  12. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Oakland has Duchscherer slotted for saturday. Im sure if KW brings him over it would be either tonight or tommorow if its going to happen at all. Not necessarily. Teams are always looking for pitchers. He's cheap and has been on fire this year. Beane may wait until a few minutes before the deadline to see if anyone is ridiculously desperate.
  13. If the plan was to trade OC for Lowe and have Cora play everyday, they might as well DL Crede, move Ramirez to third and call up Oney Guillen. That would be ridiculous. Give the Red Sox the better player and pay them the difference in salaries?
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) Anyone know how many games in a row Josh has played? 7. He's got a nice 7 game strikeout streak going. 6-25 .240 AVG 0 HR 1 rbi 10k's. Jimbo's Drinker would be booing the s*** out of him in Charlotte.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) I dunno, they really did spend their best shot in LaPorta going for CC. I read some scout's take that LaPorta was only the 3rd best prospect on his team in the Brewers system.
  16. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I'd have to think a deal like Fields, Poreda, Broadway, and Floyd would get the job done. And I'd personally be all over that deal. To lock up a true ace like Halladay for three years is priceless. I think a rotation of Halladay, Buehrle, Vazquez, Danks, and Contreras would be pretty tough. Contreras is the obvious weakness here, but he's going to be just impossible to get rid of. Not a chance in hell.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Pitchers traded during the 2004 season: Jeremy Griffiths Dave Weathers Gabe White Denny Bautista Jason Grimsley Mike Wood Octavio Dotel Freddy Garcia Jimmy Anderson Gary Majewski Jon Rauch Mike Dejean Scott Randall Terry Adams Todd Jones Brad Penny Josh Hancock Andy Machado Guillermo Mota Felix Rodriguez Bill Murphy Bartolome Fortunato Jose Diaz Kris Benson Jon Huber Francis Beltran Tom Martin Esteban Loaiza Jose Contreras Ismael Valdez Travis Chick Scott Erickson Jeriome Robertson Cory Lidle Elmer Dessens Mike Venafro Dan Wheeler Freddy was a HUGE get, especially when you consider in the fact that he was mainly bidding against the Yankees. Considering salary and hype, Garcia and Contreras were probably the 2 biggest names on the list.

From espn.com Jarrod Washburn, who has an ERA of 2.65 in his last eight starts, is reportedly drawing interest from the Yankees, Cardinals, White Sox, and possibly the Brewers. The New York Yankees appear to be the most interested party, however Washburn has a limited no-trade clause which allows him to veto a trade to the Bronx. Although he told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that "I love it here in Seattle," he did concede that he loves to win and would "strongly consider (waiving his veto) if it came to me." I remember several years ago this guy was called Mark Buerhle lite. I personally think he would be a disaster in USCF.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) Well, no s***. But KW never does. Some GMs sometimes do. Garcia, Contreras. 40% of a WS rotation. One guy won 17 consecutive decisions. Name some of the big names traded that KW should have acquired?
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) And how many of them were moved that year?? Not only that but how are Carpenter, Clement and Pavano bigger names than Freddy at the time?
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) Lowe, Carpenter, Clemens, Clement, and Pavano were all bigger names, IMO. How many of them were traded during the season? KW brings in big names. Wells, Colon, Dye. Roberto Alomar was a big name. Everett was an All Star the year he acquired him. Billy Koch was a big name. Some would say Swisher and Thome and Cabrera were big names.
  22. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) It's more of an internal boo, I would never boo at a sporting event. As you said, Mays and Payton are legends in their sports. Konerko at this point is an overpaid has been who is killing the current state of the white sox. He needs to go! Yeah, he's just killing the White Sox. BTW, he started the rally to win the game yesterday. You had some fine posts in that game thread.
  23. If the Sox do trade Uribe for Cora or something else, watch for all the people who thought it made perfect sense just to release him , you know, the same guys who complain whenever he plays, to complain the Sox didn't get enough.
  24. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Sports is a fickle world. I live in the "now", and appreciate the past. However, in the current state of the White Sox and my support, I boo my brains out for the guy. He looks over the hill and finished. It is unfair to cheer an athlete and to keep him around based upon his performances in the past. sports is a what have you done for me lately kind of field. If you want to cheer him based upon the 2005 accomplishments, I recommend you wait for the 10 year anniversary. Boo a guy for getting old. That's classic. Its classless and stupid as well. Get a grip and realize the White Sox don't make personnel decisions on whether or not you boo. Sometimes players deserve your respect. Did you boo the hell out of Walter Payton his last season with the Bears? If you were a Met fan, would you have booed Willie Mays his last season? Granted, Konerko isn't in their class career-wise, but the premise is the same. Booing him and/or thinking its acceptable is beyond immature, unless you think he isn't trying.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) We have bulletin board material when the Tigers said they weren't impressed with us last time we were there. If the Sox need bulletin board material, assuming bulletin board material is slamming their team, they need not look further than this board. There's been enough material here since they have been in first place to last about 10 seasons of cellar dwelling.
