Adam Dunn
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) To be honest. The best player on the trade market for us right now would be DeJesus if Dye is hurt for awhile. You play him in CF and lead him off. Q goes to right and Swish to LF. He's signed through 2010 with an option for 2011 at a very reasonable price. The Royals aren't going to trade him to the White Sox.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) San Fran doesn't have a true budget. They have a great park and an awesome fan base and good tourist setup. They don't have Bonds' contract, now Durham's. Outside of Zito, Winn and Rowand (as well as Roberts, Molina, Vizquel), there's not much of a huge consequence salary-wise left on that team. They have maybe $60 mil in salaries and could easily take on $30 or $40 mil more if they wanted. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/roster?team=sfo I think if Sabean even suggested to his owner that he would recommend signing a pitcher to a 6 or 7 year contract for over $100 million he will either be immediately fired or moved to a rubber room.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) C'mon Wite, Fields is not a "mediocre" prospect. How many prospects are there with his power potential in a corner infield spot? He will be 26 years old next season. He strikes out 1 out of every 3 ABs in AAA. His OBP is fairly low. His walk rate is going the wrong way. He's mediocre, but passable defensively. He certainly isn't elite. I would say if he finishes up like he's played this year, mediocre is a good word to describe him as a prospect.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) If we trade Fields and lose Crede, you know we will be bringing Uribe back for another year to play 3B. That won't happen.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
If some team were willing to give up a #1 or #2 pitcher for Fields, KW would be insane not to do it, unless the contract coming back is just ridiculous.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Garret Atkins would likely be too expensive (in terms of prospects). He's 28 and I'm always scared about getting guys coming from Coors because there is an obvious crap-shoot as to how they will perform. The good news is his power has been consistent whether he's playing at home or away over the past 3 years (although his average deeps to the .270 range). The humidor has helped, but I agree, you never know when you get Rockies.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
Determining who will be available is kind of a waste of time. Who would have thought last summer Cabrera would be the White Sox SS this season? If the White Sox need a 3rd baseman, KW will trade for one, but I would think there's an 80% chance it will be Fields, unless he really falls off the table the rest of the season.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) I think my post pretty much states his upside and where he'll most likely fall. The one thing he could do to significantly increase his value is improve defensively (he has the skill-set to do such) as well as to continue to improve his eye (if he walks more, than you can put up more with his k's). However, if he walks at his current clip you are talking about a guy who not only hits for a low average, but also gets on base at a below average clip and strikes out at a pace similar to Ryan Howard. At that point you are talking about a guy who would really only have one strength (POWER). In a similar amount of AAA ABs this year and last, his walk rate is down significantly, and his strikeouts are higher. He'll be 26 years old next year. Something has to happen fairly soon.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
It would all depend on what was available for him. I think a lot of people are going to be pretty dissappointed if they think Fields is going to be a 40-50 home run guy.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) In 52, injury-hampered games. Its amazing how guys like Konerko, who have done loads for the White Sox and have played hurt all year gets so much s*** on this board, but guys like Fields who continues to strike out at even higher rates than last year just get excuse after excuse. Just remember, on September 14 last year, Fields was hitting .229 with a .284 OBP. In other words, Juan Uribe-like. I think you know how much crap he gets on this board. He gets his numbers up in some of the most meaningless games the White Sox have played since the 80s and his continued inability to make contact is still ignored. Reggie Jackson and Jim Thome are both well over 500 homers. I'd bet my houses (I currently have 2 for some stupid reason) that Fields won't get halfway there.

Sox should trade Josh Fields
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) yea we should never want guys like Reggie Jackson, Jim Thome, or almost any other power hitter. I'm not saying he'll be as good as those guys but to discount a power hitter based solely on # of strikeouts seems shortsighted to me. As for the question, i wouldn't trade Fields until i knew i had a deal with Crede in place or another LEGITIMATE option and not some of the journeymen names that have been thrown around Please don't put Josh Fields in the same sentence with those 2. When they were his age, they weren't hitting .251 with 9 homers and 71 k's at AAA in a bandbox.

Crede vs. Fields
Fields hasn't been good this year, and also has been injured. His defense is no better than the defense Crede has shown this year. His errors are about the same and Crede while most don't want to admit, has saved a lot of runs. Offensively, Crede has been better in the major leagues this season than Fields has been at AAA. In fact, Fields has struck out at a higher rate in AAA than Jim Thome has fanned in the major leagues. For this season, the decision was correct. Next year,Crede will be gone and chances are Fields will be up in Chicago.

Iowa A.D. Under Fire
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) There will be a shortage of moving vans in a few days. But winning IS everything But onw word before we pass judgement -- DUKE There's a little more evidence here than they had at Duke. The alleged victim is a student/athlete herself, so here credibility is probably a little higher. This is a program that has had legal problem after legal problem. It needs to be cleaned up. At least put Ferentz on a short rope. If he or anyone else had anything to do with trying to cover up a rape, I hope they can and will be charged with something criminal, and they all lose their jobs. If he's just an innocent bystander, its time he take resposibility for all the jackasses he's bringing in to Iowa City. At least when other schools had a team of criminals they won, and I say that in jest. The arrests need to stop. There's no doubt in my mind Iowa City police are targeting footballl players and basketball players, so they will just have to get by with obeying the law. If they can't, there should be zero tolerance, and if the behavior continues, the zero tolerance needs to extend to the people responsible for bringing them to town.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Intentional or not, you don't get to hit that many guys without getting something back. My point is if you don't like it, don't pitch in after they have hit 5. Send a message early.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) I meant 3 runs even in the 3 games- there's no way. Just think if there was a twinstalk.com. 0 runs against Texas so far today. .5 game out of first place. It would be razorblade time.

The only thing I can say after watching the Easter Seals commercial featuring Ozzie Guillen is "what?"

Royals @ White Sox 7/20 1:05PM CSN
The Orioles have lost 14 straight Sunday games. They now have a promotion that if you have tickets to a game on a Sunday at Camden Yards, if they lose, your stub gets you 2 freebies.

Trade Winds Catch All
Ken Rosenthal on Fox yesterday was saying the Dodgers talks with the White Sox for OC, I thought he was going to say Uribe, went nowhere.
