  1. QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 02:24 AM) Not looking at any RISP stats, or any stats at all actually, I get the impression that Uribe has come up big in important situations over the years. In order to get me to feel this way, you have to, well, come up big in important situations. I'm not easily impressed. Maybe laziness or a lacksidaisical attitude can account for what we often see. What was Freddie's forte? Big Game pitcher. Did that work out for us? Well, I guess. Uribe is hitting .357 with runners in scoring position. The Sox should release him immediately. Right now, I'm sure Ramirez is the secondbaseman, but he hasn't done much the last four games or so and Ozzie needs to get his bench some playing time, so it was a good time to give Ramirez a break. Ozzie has been known to play his bench a couple of games in a row, and this substitution worked out well. Uribe was a big part of Friday's win. Its unlikely Ramirez being in the line-up yesterday would have resulted in 2 more runs, so even though the White Sox only eeked out 3 hits, and Uribe was 0-2, the blame on him being in the line-up is just so ridiculous, its amazing. Frankly, if Ramirez played Friday and Saturday and Uribe sat, there's a good possibility the White Sox would be trying to avoid the sweep today.
  2. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) Guillen is going to mess up Ramirez timing now with all this crap about benching him. Ramirez must think what do I have to do to play on this team regularly? Do I need to hit a HR every time? I want somebody in the media to question Guillen hard on this decision. I do not want any reporter being pay by the White Sox asking stupid question, but somebody independent. I am mad as hell. If Alexei sucks, I will be the first one saying send him back to Cuba. I am going to sleep now. I can't take this nonsense anymore. He's 3 for his last 14 and 0 for his last 6. Uribe hadn't played for a month. It was a good time to give the guy a rest. He sat on his ass a lot longer earlier and it had no ill effect.
  3. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) Well, he's 1 of 9 reasons, I guess. 1 of 2 since Thome isn't playing. Uribe and Walker.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) OC should be embarrassed; he hit it right at the defense. My god. Its not his fault. Walker teaches that.
  5. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) Wow, thats sad DA. Its in response to all the b****ing about Uribe playing 2 games in a row. He actually did have a big hit last night, but according to some, he's the reason the Sox haven't scored tonight.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) Set your bar a little higher Dick. Know when to sit guys. Don't bag on people who bag on a team that clearly should be performing better than it is....REGARDLESS of the size of there lead in the division. It's like $100....IT. DON'T. LAST. LONG!!!!! What should be the line-up tonight? How come the Sox only could get 1 run at Detroit with the great Ramirez at 2nd base on Thursday.
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) Disregard the fact Q's hand hasnt' been right according to reports. I swear....if I owned for Enron Corp...I'd want you as my PR guy. You're Kevin Bacon in Animal House....."Remain calm........ALL IS WELL....." Why play the hurt guy? Why isn't all well? A 5.5 game lead is a lot better than every other team except 1 in MLB. I complain about a lot of things, but not a first place team that most including myself was hoping to be around .500 this year.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Injury. I know that. What I'm saying is you have to play your bench every once in a while. Uribe was a big part of the win last night and might be today.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) Two different situations. You don't bench Quentin for a guy hitting .200. I was being sarcastic. If a high batting average is required to play once in a while, then why did Ramirez get a shot?
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) Good pitch to drive that he popped up. I know one poster who would think that's either Uribe's or Walker's fault.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Ask him why we benched our starting 2nd baseman for a guy who has hit .235 for the last 2 seasons. Oh I understand he got a hit last night, but why bench the guy hitting near .290. Why do they start Quentin who hasn't hit for a while? Your complaining is hysterical. Teams laughing at the first place White Sox with their pitiful offense. Just disregard they are 3rd in the AL in runs scored.
  12. I went to Detroit and watching Loaisa, I think he is still injured. There is something in his motion, even when he's out playing catch in between innings with the LF that makes me think he has shoulder problems.
  13. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) regardless we cant give walker credit for the good things and not rip him a bit for the bad things... Fine. Just give him credit for the good things, and the board needs to get off the Walker teaches everyone to swing from their heels BS. Its simply not true. The day Ozzie blew up and people were calling for Walker's head yet again, I believe they had 13 hits, but couldn't do anything with RISP. To blame Walker for hitters choking is beyond ludicrous. They had a great plan that game, they were going the other way, but for some reason when it came time to drive them in, the hitters got away from the plan.
  14. Crede's giving Walker credit for the hot streak. Must not be Greg Walker.
  15. Since the Sox traded him, his slugging pct. is about .230. I see no reason a first place team needs this Nationals reject.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 07:32 AM) No they didn't and that was something completely different. It was a tribute to all the living Negro players. Each team drafted one in honor of them. And lol if actually believe it was the scouts call on drafting KWjr. How naive can you be? While you might consider the MLB draft a "crapshoot", you still drafted the BPA, especially in the first 10 rounds. I'm not very naive. No way KW would overrule his scouts and pick his kid in the 6th round. I do agree to a point, I don't think if the guy was exact same player and his name was Jim Hendry Jr. there is any chance the White Sox would have selected him there. And it is pretty scary in a draft where you pick a ton of players, they seem to be out of names by that round, but 10 years from now when you go back to the 6th round, KWJR will most likely have the same amount of major league success as everyone except perhaps 1 or 2 from that round, if that many, and he'll have the same amount of success as some of the names thrown around on this board for the Sox to draft in the first round paying them millions.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 06:48 AM) Fine, but there is no denying the similarites between KWjr. and Owens. KW didn't draft his son, it was his scouts' call. I think the Yankees drafted a 102 year old ex Negro League player around the same time. The whole MLB draft is a crapshoot. Even the first round a decent percentage never make it to the major leagues and most of them don't provide much impact. There will be guys from the draft picked after KW Jr. who will be good players and chances are a 22 year old who gets pinch hit for on his college team is a big overdraft in the 6th round, but at least he will sign. People love the Jordan Danks pick, but if he doesn't sign, its a worse pick than Junior.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Loaiza topped out at 88 tonight, and still had very nice movement on his pitches. The HR to Casilla was bad luck, as it was tailing way in on his hands and he did a great job of getting out in front of it. And all this was without having any real game action in 3+ weeks. You get the television gun or the one at the park? The one at the park had him either 86 or 84 with the fastball and 78 with the offspeed stuff. Unfortunately, that is what he was topping out at with the Dodgers. I like signing him, but really don't think I should expect much.
  19. QUOTE (gosox41 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) I ws just going to ask if KW's son was a legit 5th round pick. For a team with a crappy minor league system, it doesn't sound like, especially if only a couple of teams saw him as a 10th rd pick. If he wasn't a legit pick, then this is worse then Schu picking his daughter in the 45th round (or whatever it was). I'm guessing more fifth round picks make it to the majors then 45th round (though there are exceptions like Piazza and Buehrle in the 38th). And I've heard enough the state of the Sox farm system to know not too waste any picks anymore. The White Sox actually drafted 3 or 4 guys after Carrie Schueler that year that actually played in the major leagues. I think a couple of them signed with the Sox and one or 2 didn't. One was Placido Polanco. There was more nepotism in the White Sox draft this year as Travis Otto, son of Dave Otto, former big leaguer and Cubs broadcaster , grandson of Al Otto, White Sox part-time Chicago area scout, was picked in a later round.
  20. USCF is a goofy park. The wind is howling out of the SW yet the garbage flows on the field towards the SW corner.
  21. QUOTE (gosox41 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) Can't lance Broadway fill Loiaza's role? Or are the Sox that down on him. Broadway isn't very good. His ERA is almost 7.00 his last 5 starts. Loaisa was topping out at 86. He probably won't help much, but if he takes Masset's role maybe he gets lucky a couple of times. Masset is an upgrade over Wasserman and the long guy is used in games that probably will be loses anyway, so its worth the shot to pay Esteban the minimum and see if he can either pick up a little arm strength or somehow get by with some cunning and guile. They can always release him and he'll cost less than Jeff Nelson a couple of years ago.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) You deserve props, as you were always saying he'd come around. I thought he could bounce back and be a decent #3 or #4 starter. Basically giving you Garland-like numbers. I'm actually shocked at his sometimes dominance this season.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) Yea, IIRC, a lot of people were wishing we had sent him to the Angels for OC instead of Garland. Wondering how they feel about that now... A lot of people were hoping the Sox would eat a lot of his salary and just give him away.
  24. Jose Contreras is dealing like the 2005 version. I don't know if he can keep it up, but you have to give him a lot of credit. He was given up for dead by most.
  25. I thought he was a soccer player. I actually like this pick.
