  1. Fields hasn't played for 3 days. He must still be hurt or sick.
  2. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) It's not like teams don't do this all the time. Eddie Murray got fired in Cleveland in '05 and the Indians stormed back from under .500 to almost catch the Sox. Hitting coaches are hired and fired all the time. Unless Greg Walker has bought you dinner, I don't see why anyone here would support keeping him. Our hitters look clueless at the plate. Eddie Murray got fired because he was a miserable schmuck. That's also why Walt Hriniak and Gary Ward got the boot with the White Sox. Walker is highly respected and liked by the players. The only name anyone mentions is Baines. He won't be the hitting coach. Any other names?
  3. Home teams are winning at a .577 clip this year. The Sox have played as few home games as anyone. Even with their lack of hitting, they are sitting pretty. I heard one theory the other day why home teams are winning at a higher rate is the lack of amphetimes.
  4. Who should be the hitting coach?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:54 PM) Because that's just what we'd want to see in the 10th if somehow we tied it. Ozuna at either 1b or CF. Actually he came in to PR. I suppose it would be better to you if Crede stayed in and didn't score on a extra base hit and the Sox lost, rather than having Ozuna play 3B.
  6. Shouldn't there be a pinch runner for Crede? Maybe Ozuna's going to bat for Anderson.
  7. Is Fields hurt again? He hasn't played for a while
  8. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) He did a great job distracting our best run producer on a hitters count. Who cares. Teams pay for steals.
  9. I wonder how much OC figures he made on his next contract with the 2 meaningless steals.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) Unfortunately, with the fact that we're putting him in the lineup every day...so far he looks like he's got a good shot at having that option vest. I doubt that option will vest. He needed more appearances than he got last year, and his back will flare up again. I still think he'll get hot.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) 30 pounds, you are looking at a bit more than 30. Yeah. If Ramirez added 30, he would look like a short, well-tanned Mike MacDougal. For the love of God, let Ramirez have a spot in front of Toby Hall in the buffet line.
  12. I think with Uribe back and Ramirez hitting better, you will see Ramirez play CF again.
  13. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 31, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Wise is being sent out today, isn't he? DFA'd
  14. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Wow. This is like the least clutch team of all-time. We are dead last in baseball with a .185 avg with RISP & 2 out. We were next to last in 2007. Twins are 1st in the AL. Which is weird because at least as of last week the Sox were 5th in the league in avg. with RISP. They must have some awesome average with 0 or 1 out and RISP.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 31, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Swisher is as bad as Anderson ever was in the majors. I do not understand why he's still starting. He's a dog. Bench his worthless ass. It would be interesting to see what Anderson would do now if he played regularly. I suppose the reluctancy is the team is winning. If someone told you on May 31 that Thome, Konerko and Swisher would each be hitting below .210 and that Buerhle and Vazquez would have higher ERAs than Floyd, Danks and Contreras, 1st place would probably be the last place you would guess to find this team.
  16. Swisher is brutal. Its amazing how many people actually want him to play first base. He had a big power drop off last season and this year it continues to drop. Believe me, if the Cubs had traded for him, most of his supporters here would be bringing up PEDs. I'm not saying that he used them, but the power drop off has to make you wonder. Its time Anderson gets to play. I have a hard time believing if he got Swisher's playing time, he couldn't perform better than what we have seen from Nick.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) I got the chance to watch Crow pitch for Mizzou today against Ole Miss on ESPNU. He was filthy! His fastball was solid, as it was in the 92 mph range the whole game. However, his slider was absolutely amazing. He's as good of a college pitcher I've seen in a long time. On the other hand, former Braves player Brian Jordan was the announcer. Holy cow, he was bad. He sounded like Cleveland from "Family Guy". I'll continue to give updates from the regionals. Be careful judging sliders in college. I read an article where the college baseball has much bigger seams. Hansen with Boston was supposed to be filthy, but when he went to the professional ball, his slider lost a lot of bite. That said, if he's going to have a great slider in the pros, its going to be nasty in college as well. It seems the college ball is the college pitcher's aluminum bat.
  18. As bad as Swisher's been, his OBP this season is still 13 points higher than Orlando Cabrera's career OBP. Swisher, unless he starts hitting some home runs, should bat 8th 9th or 1st.
  19. Gammons was just discussing Wilder on Baseball Tonight. He basically said he was singing to the feds and its probably going to implicate another organization. He also thinks it will ultimately lead to an international draft.
  20. Most everyone was shocked when Collins was fired in 1989. There were all kinds of outrageous rumors which obviously weren't true or he wouldn't be back. He'll piss some of the players off, but so what. He'll at least have them in the right direction when he goes. Think of it, the Bulls, the Pistons, even Washington became a lot better. He also was responsible for Horace Grant being a Bull. Krause wanted Joe Wolf.
  21. 64% of teams in first place as of Memorial Day have made the playoffs. Its nice having a shutdown bullpen again.
  22. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Way to go JOE He makes so many plays like this, yet next time he makes an error a few posters will tell you what number it is, and what he's on pace for.
  23. Cabrera has some things to say: "If it happens again, I will call again," Cabrera said. "I don't have to do it with other teams because they always had my back. They don't want to do it here, I can take care of my own business. If you have a problem with what I did, come to me and say something. Don't go to the media to send a message, because he didn't send any message." "I never had anybody complain about that stuff," said Cabrera, who won his second Gold Glove Award last season with the Los Angeles Angels. "If there was a major-league player who tells me he's not selfish, he's lying. Everyone is selfish about numbers, because that's the only thing people cannot lie about. That's it. It's not a big deal. I don't know who's trying to make this a big deal. Maybe it's the media, maybe it's the manager. And nobody is complaining about that stuff. Nobody cares about that."
  24. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 28, 2008 -> 06:01 AM) since probably 70-75% (or more) baseball fans are ignorant about the game, it's players, stats other than balls/strikes/homeruns, they need to take the ASG ballot out of the hands of the fans when a game like this actually serves quite a large meaning ultimately, letting the general public determine the talent that goes into that game is ludicrous. Yet Jerry Owens is on the ballot and Quentin is not. I think Garvey is the only write-in candidate ever to be elected. Don't worry, if Quentin keeps this up he will be on the ballot. Its silly anyway that this game, an exibition, should mean home field advantage for the WS. It should be which league has the better interleague record.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 27, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) Now THAT'S a generalization. Majority of NBA playes = black, so they smoke weed. Gotya. I'd say the MAJORITY of NBA players don't smoke weed, but that's just me. You are the one mentioning race. I know mostly white people and know quite a few who smoke weed. There was a SI article or some other magazine a couple of years ago that estimated a figure way higher (no pun intended) than what it would take to make a majority smoked weed. It was Charles Oakley stating 60 % of the NBA smoked weed. Josh Howard popped off about his toking because he thought it was no big deal because of the amount of players who do.
