Frank Thomas Thread
QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) I agree with Frank . Benched for Matt Stairs? After 60 ABs? He was arguably their most effective hitter last season. Something is going on. It was not the best contract for Toronto, but you don't do this to a Legend. If this turns out to be a big deal all season, I have found a new franchise to hate. Why? Toronto doesn't owe Frank anything. He's well on his way to getting the number of plate appearances necessary for the option. If he was worried about the Blue Jays cutting his playing time in order to keep the option from activating, maybe just maybe, just like with the contract containing the diminished skills clause he signed with the White Sox, he shouldn't have signed it. He'll get more opportunities, but he was awful in spring training, and awful except for a few games this season, he's going to have to perform to get paid. Would you be up in arms if Thome was in the exact same situation to kick in a $10 million option next year and wasn't doing jack, and the Sox tried something else?

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 12:36 AM) I really can't fault Ozzie in the least tonight. With the way he managed tonight, he got the ball to his closer with a two run lead. What more can you ask for in a game? Jenks blew the game, and a loss followed. Go back out tomorrow and get a W. If Ozzie blew anything, it was not having Anderson in defensively in the ninth. If he were in for Dye, the double would have easily been cut off and would have been a single. If everything else then went the same, the tying run would never have scored, but I doubt Ozzie will be lifting Dye for defense in a non blowout.

White Sox worth $443 million
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Where does that rank among the other teams? 14TH

White Sox worth $443 million
They also have their 2007 profit at $30 million which would be 4 in baseball behind Washington, Florida, and the Mets.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) Wow, Contreras pitching fantastic. Take out one inning and hes got the shutout in tact. He really had only 1 bad inning his last start. He'll be OK.

The Count has his ERA down to 4.34. I think everyone would take that for a full year.

I bet Adam Dunn gets more 3-2 counts than Thome.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) Not only has he had a good forkball, he's had the best fastball he's had since 2006. I've seen him around 92-94. If he can pitch there and have a good forkball he'll be effective again. He also hasn't walked anybody. When he struggles, it seems everyone is 3 and 2. Just like the count was to everyone when El Duque pitched for the Sox. I thought it must be some sort of rule in Cuba that everyone had to get to that count.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) ive been very impressed with orlandos ability to work the count and take a walk this year...we knew swisher would do those things, but orlando has done that stuff very nicely this year as well Its been nice. He really hasn't been a high OBP guy in the past. Maybe he's becoming wiser with age.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Just when I have everyone convinced Joe Crede is a God and should be signed to a long term contract he makes an error. What's a fellow to do? Konerko seemed almost stunned he threw the ball. He really wasn't totally prepared to get in front of it.

He swung more than Uribe did. Hey Hawk, shouldn't Ozzie stick up for his players and get tossed?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) He is old by dog age standards though Yeah, eventually he's not going to be able to get hot anymore, but he was so hot the last week or so before spring training ended and lit up Sabathia, he's still good at least for this season as long as he's healthy.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) I took Jim Thome as my PTC today and tomorrow figuring that when he came back from his one game suspension he would have something to prove. he has been in a slump and this might be when he breask out now. So far a HR and a double Thome is one of the streakiest players in baseball. When he's in a slump, he can't hit anything. Its amazing everytime he goes through a slump, how many think he's washed up.

I get home and turn on the TV and hear Hawk b****ing about Jerry Manuel not getting kicked out of a game. Then I come on here and see guys busting on Uribe for striking out on a pitch he didn't swing at, and b**** about not running to first when first base was occupied with less than 2 out. Strange.

Thome Suspended
Thome threw the cup on the field after the inning was over, which would mean he was in the dugout, a place he wasn't supposed to be. The suspension could also be for that. Remember Bobby Valentine with the disquise after he got tossed? I thought that was hilarious, but he was suspended a few games IIRC.

Thome Suspended
He threw a cup on the field after the inning ended. I bet that is what the suspension is for. It was a gatorade cup, so it is pretty weak.

Danny Richar
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) I would argue otherwise. Richar had a RZR of .802 in 2007 compared to Uribe's RZR of .796, which showed that Uribe was sub-par defensively in 2007 (compared to his previous RZR #'s). Right now that number is .905, so Uribe has done a lot better so far at 2B defensively. But the Sox shouldn't hesitate making a change by the end of May if Uribe still has numbers around the .520 OPS mark and hitting below .200 (currently .171). Richar to me at least showed a bit more plate discipline than Uribe, which is what the Sox are really after from their hitters in 2008. Richar is currently hurt and unable to play. Discipline and Richar should not be used in the same sentence as he was told to get his visa early but he ignored it and was the only White Sox late to spring training. Most would say its not a big deal, but say it was Uribe who was late. The reaction on this board would have been a lot different. Guys who hit .230 with a .289 OBP shouldn't be given a job. Uribe won his in spring training, and I really doubt he will continue to hit .170.

Danny Richar
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) Just gonna throw out some stats; Uribe 2007 - 112 K's in 513 AB's and 34 BB's. Richar 2007 - 33 K's in 187 AB's and 16 BB's. Richar also had the slightly higher SLG % than Uribe (which is meant to be Juan's main strength offensively). Richar had a GPA of .225 compared to Uribe's .220. Richar took 4.0 P/PA compared to Juan's 3.7. Richar had a higher % of line drives and ground balls to Uribe (which to me shows more of a balanced hitter at the plate). Uribe also hit .198 with RISP last season. Richar's # was .250. So that to me shows how bad Juan Uribe was offensively last season, if a rookie in his 1st season can beat him in pretty much all major offensive numbers. Those numbers are pretty close, yet Uribe, by far the better defensive player, and probably Soxtalk's most hated White Sox, is a worthless piece of crap, but Richar is going to be great. I'm not arguing whether Uribe was bad last year or not, he was, so were a lot of guys. What I'm arguing is that while Richar may have a chance to be good, right now, considering defense, he's not even better than Juan Uribe at his worst.
