AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) :headbang Wow, that Tiger offense is scary I read that this is the third time that two granny have been hit by the Sox in a game. When and who are the other two? I don't have the answers. Hopefully, somebody else does. I do know Robin Ventura hit 2 in a game all by himself I think it was at Texas. The other one Ventura hit one of them.

Guillen fined for umpire 'vendetta' quote
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) that was rediculous how quick he was ejected last Monday. Obviously we don't know exactly what was said, but if Ozzie argued balls and strikes, he is supposed to be ejected.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
QUOTE (RME JICO @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Fixed. Also, just realized the Sox have the best record in the AL after 2 weeks. At this moment, the two worst records in the AL are Detroit and Cleveland.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
Crede has matched his homer total from last year and is only 2 doubles short of last year's total in 1/4 of the ABs. I guess his back is feeling much better. The Tigers look defeated in the first inning. For a team thats supposed to put up 1000+ runs this year, something is horribly wrong, and if they don't stop the bleeding pretty soon, I think it will snowball into a real bad season.

4/13 Gamethread: Sox (6-4) vs. Detroit (2-9); 1:05, WGN
I hope Quentin gets real hot the next week or so. The Sox have only attempted 1 stolen base in 10 games. I have a feeling Ozzie is dying for a reason to insert Owens after a few rehab games. I say make him a pinch runner. Getting guys on base, then hitting homers works pretty well.

RUMOR: Coop Request Pitch Speed be Removed
QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) Well if the speed is back on that makes sense, I found this very hard to believe, espeically b/c it was from some ticket rep on the team. As for its accuracy, its never been accurate, its always off in one way or the other. Still, its nice for a new age park to have new age features, including pitch speed, I would like to see pitch type too, I think they have it in Philly, SD, Cle, etc. When Bill Veeck bought the White Sox in the 70's, he actually had a clock that timed the baserunner down to first for awhile. He was a guy who was a show, and a little bit of a fraud, but he was ahead of his time.

It was back on Friday night. The fonts are different on those little boards this year.

4/12 Gamethread: Sox (5-4) vs. Detroit (2-8); 12:05, CSN
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) Probably because he's not a very good manager. The idea that 2006 was his doing is a myth. As much as I have hated on Ozzie over the years, he was far more responsible for our 2005 than Leyland was for their 2006. He took a horrible team that won 49,72 and 71 games the previous 3 years, and took them into the WS his first season. If he had nothing to do with the Tigers success, no manager in history has had anything to do with a team's success.

4/12 Gamethread: Sox (5-4) vs. Detroit (2-8); 12:05, CSN
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) This is a really tough choice for Ozzie either way. We don't have another off day for 9 days, but Jenks has had 4 straight days off and he was getting warm thinking it was a save spot. I'm shocked by how bad Orlando has played defense so far. Can't have Jenks throwing extra pitches. How is that ruled a hit?

Guillen fined for umpire 'vendetta' quote
QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) he got fined for that? Thats ridiculous.. he has an opinion.. pft That was going to be automatic. If players and managers were allowed to say whatever they feel about umpires without penalty, umpires safety would be in danger. There are a lot of sickos out there. Ozzie knew he would be fined. I think he said it so the league would put Cuzzi's crew on White Sox games as little as possible.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) So, on this -- is there anything that says the Alomar had the procedure on two discs? Because in the (admittedly limited) study I mentioned, the odds seem to be much worse for the two-level procedure. I'm mostly thinking about that one study, the discussion with ptatc, and Crede's reluctance to undergo the surgery in 2006. (I know the Sox and Crede keep describing this as a 'very minor procedure, in-and-out, no biggie' -- but if that were the case there was no reason to put it off a year.) Looking at all that, 3 or 4 years down the road doesn't look very good to me, and definitely not good enough to gamble $10+ mil on it. (Personally, I don't know if I'd be comfortable with that even if Crede were completely healthy.) This debate has been rehashed so many times here, I'm just going to leave it at that. Jmo. I could only find when he had the surgery, but I do remember the articles when the White Sox wanted him to have it saying that it was exactly the same as the Alomar procedure. The same discs from what I can remember. But that doesn't mean he won't have any trouble getting out of bed tomorrow morning. The only way I see the Sox signing Crede to a huge contract is if he has a huge year, the team has a huge year, and Fields is awful in AAA, or traded for someone during the season. I think the odds are pretty good Fields is at 3rd in 2009. I think the organization is as high on him as a lot of people on this board.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
I don't think the White Sox have any intention to sign Crede unless Fields completely busts in Charlotte. They may have approached him last year when he was hurt hoping for a bargain and perhaps intending to use Fields in a trade for M. Cabrera or something like that, but if Crede has a good year, the Sox will not want to pay him the market rate if they still feel Fields is going to be good. So this is a one year thing. They couldn't get anything of value for him in a trade, but they could get a nice year out of him for $5.1 million, which would be better than a couple of non prospects IMO.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) If it was a guarantee that Joe's back wouldn't be a problem in the future (like, say, the way a broken leg or a torn ACL heals) and of course if he wasn't a Boras client I would have no qualms about bringing Joe back. But that's not the case. Nothing is guaranteed, especially with backs. I just looked into it a little further though, and Alomar Jr. had his back surgery in 1993, which means he played post surgery for 14 years, including 3 or 4 stints with the White Sox, and his back was never an issue, although he had so many other injuries that maybe it helped his back from not blowing up.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) I had a discussion with ptatc (who knows more about player injuries than anyone else on this site) a little while back about the surgery, and the basics are that Crede can delay the recurrence by strengthening his back, staying on a good regimen. But there are no guarantees that he'll stay healthy for X years, and it will eventually come back. The one study I found that dealt with athletes looked at college athletes who'd had the same procedure (lumbar discectomy), average age around 20. 9 out of 10 who had single-level discectomy continued to compete through the end of college. Only 3 athletes had a double-level discectomy (which is what Joe had), and all 3 stopped competing before they finished college (because of "continued symptoms"). (Abstract of the study here.) It doesn't mean Crede can't be good this year, but no, he's not good as new. Sandy Alomar Jr. had the exact same surgery Crede had when he played for Cleveland. I think he had the surgery in 1998 or 1999, and he played for a while after that with no back problems.

White Sox Take Another Step in Turnaround
QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) Southsidesox.com has a piece on Crede. He seems healthy which is great, especially for his defense, but his batting is inflated. I think it said he has something like 8 infield pop outs in 7 games, and something like 4 or 5 of his hits were either infield singles (very rare for crede) or duck snorts, and his line drive rate is way down. If that continues there is no way he keep up this pace, regression will take place. He also has 2 game winning homers in the team's first 5 wins. A hit is a hit. Frank Thomas used to occassionally hit little bloops down the RF line for doubles on his way to Cooperstown. Crede's OPS currently is about 1.100. Obviously he won't keep it up, but who is to say he can't do what he did the first 5 months of 2006 when he hit over .300 with 28 homers before his back got so bad he couldn't pick up his little girls? That's really not too shabby. Aaron Rowand was talking about Crede last month and said Crede has been playing with back pain for several years, but now its gone. At one time, Joe was one of the hottest prospects in baseball. Its not out of the realm of possibility he can break about half of Soxtalk's members' hearts and still be a very productive player.
