  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) great post...unlike yourself, so many people on here choose to ignore the hundred years or so worth of statistics that suggest that a strike out is basically the same as any other out Then don't be pissed next time there's a lead off hit and the guy bunting fouls a couple off and winds up striking out. An out is an out. Also don't be pissed with a runner at second if Juan Uribe hits a grounder to 3rd with nobody out. An out is an out. A lot more runs score and runners advance on outs that are not strikeouts than on strikeouts. We aren't even mentioning errors.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) But better than a ground ball dp. Love apples and oranges!!! How about a man on 3rd and 1 out and a strikeout?
  3. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) See, that's the thing. Strikeouts aren't really much worse than any other out. The fact that he has good power and a decent eye largely mitigate his low average and high K rate. I'd argue that I'd much rather have a player like Fields at the plate than someone like Crede -- Crede might not strike out much but his low avg, horrible eye, and decent power all overshadow this. Next time the bases are loaded an one is out and someone strikes out, remember it is no worse than a flyball to LF.
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 06:59 AM) Anyone else see that Jeff DaVanon is playing for Charlotte also; He's 34 years old. I don't think he'll ever help much in Chicago.
  5. When you strikeout as much as Fields does, you're going to have a couple of games like these. If he's feeling sorry for himself, too bad. It also may be he's just a slow starter. He was horrid for a while at Charlotte last year too.
  6. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) No... the whole point here is that Buehrle's performance last year and in the spring can justify calling it an anomaly while Contreras's performance for the last year and a half simply can't. It's been a very long time since he's shown anything. At all. I had close to zero confidence in him coming into this year and I have even less now. Ironically that seems to be his problem b/c there doesn't really appear to be anything wrong with him physically. You do realize that in the last 2 months last year he was 5-3 with a 3.76 ERA.
  7. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Buehrle's first start last season ended early because he took a line drive off his hand... didn't even matter in the end. Contreras on the other hand had an even worse outing last year than he is having now and followed it up with a season even a #5 starter would be ashamed of. You are missing my point. You say since Contreras was bad last year, and shaky his first start this year, he is done. Buerhle was bad in 2006. If his first start in 2007 was like his start this year on opening day, he would be in the same spot, and I suppose to you that is stick a fork in him done.
  8. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Absolutely not...This outing for Contreras is just a continuation of last year all over again. He's washed up...Buehrle was terrific last year, he gets a few passes because he recently pitched well. Count hasn't pitched well since the first half of 2006...he's done, put a fork in him. So then if Buerhle's first start last season was like his first start this season, with as awful of a second half he had in 2006, he would be done. Stick a fork in him. Your argument is beyond ridiculous. If Gavin Floyd had the same start Contreras is having today, there would be people on here that would be excited.
  9. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) Yeah I guess that makes perfect sense considering Buehrle sucked so bad last year. Contreras was better than him for the second half of 2005 and in 2006. What does last year have to do with this year?
  10. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) What are you talking about? If one outing is enough to say Contreras is done, and Buerhle did significantly worse, he must be done as well.
  11. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Bring up Broadway he cant be any worse than the Count Who is going to take Buerhle's place?
  12. QUOTE(Bhay99 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Well come on, you can't have your prime time .230 hitter just sitting on the bench for a guy who can actually play defense. Who do the White Sox have that is better defensive at second than Uribe?
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) nice non-interference interference there by polanco Did you know the White Sox drafted Polanco in the same draft and after they drafted Carrie Schueler?
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) The real Joe Crede gets to go sit down again The great Josh Fields didn't exactly wow anyone with the Knights last night. 0-4 3ks and an error.
  15. Quentin reminds me of Canseco without the roids.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Is Uribe paying your mortgage or something? It will be interesting to see when board favorites make an error if there will be 20 posts saying f*** him or he sucks or I hate him. You popped off about overreaction to a bad Gavin Floyd inning. Read the posts on 1 error,
  17. Without Uribe in the line-up, the Sox may still be looking for win #1.
  18. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) Are we going to go the next 8 pages and argue this semantically or are we going to agree that we should be playing a different second baseman. Who should be playing 2nd?
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) F***ing Juan Uribe. That was the inning ending DP right there He hit a homer yesterday , struck out a couple of times and made an error today. He's turning into Josh Fields.
  20. Cabrera is going to be back in the line-up tonight at DH per rotoworld.
  21. Crede is an on base machine.
  22. Fields would have it it farther.
  23. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) This is an odd question to ask here but..... For you business people: I got an interview today at 2, I have a 3 button suit, do I button the top 2? Middle only? I'm kinda stumped. Figured I'd get quickest response in this thread thanks. Top 2.
  24. That's OK. The Sox will get them next inning. Uribe will be hitting.
  25. Anyone who thinks Paulie won't get a statue is sadly mistake. He's becoming a statue while still playing before our very eyes.
