Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
According to Ozzie in the Uribe status uncertain column on whitesox.com, Uribe is on waivers to gauge interest, not to be released. He also said Ozuna looks like the starter opening day because of his success vs. Sabathia.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
Manny Ramirez was placed on irrevocable waivers a few years ago and any team could take him if they picked up his contract. Nobody claimed him so he remained in Boston. I have the feeling the White Sox didn't waive Uribe for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release because if they did, I believe he would have packed his bags by now. Its probably the same situation. You can have him if you take the contract. If you don't want to pay the entire thing, he'll probably stay put.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
Richar is supposedly going to get an MRI on his back. Maybe Pablo is leading off at 2B on opening day.

2nd Base job
The good news is MacDougal has been good his last few outings, and Thornton has been better than last season. If Dotel and Linebrink live up to the hype, the bullpen should go from terribly pitiful to a strength. But the long man is a concern. I think Masset will win by default unless he has a couple of more outings like today.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) According to Levine, if noone claims him the Sox can either release him or leave him on the roster as if nothing happened. And the last time the White Sox ate $4.1 million was................................... If nobody claims him, he'll probably be in Cleveland March 31.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) Hence the word: irrevoccable Irrevocable is for the waiver part. You would use revocable waivers to guage interest. If someone claimed him, you would lose him now. Revocables you can pull back. The Tribune is now reporting that Juan knows nothing about the waiver deal, and plans to travel with the team to Phoenix tomorrow, so they must be the same as Ramirez. If nobody claims him, I believe he's still a White Sox. Yes.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
Are these the same waivers Manny Ramirez was placed on? Is it a certainty if he's not claimed he will be released?

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) According to Levineline they are irrevoccable waivers. So Juan Uribe-----------he gone. My list of guys gets smaller, a lot smaller.

Pods Returns, Let the Celebration Begin!
I just hope if BA gets his deserved spot on the team, they don't rot him on the bench like last year. You want to talk about players being stunted. If that's what they have in mind, they should do him a favor and trade him for garbage to the Marlins or something where he could play.

Pods Returns, Let the Celebration Begin!
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) I know there are a lot of Hawk haters, but hearing him call that Thome bomb made me smile. I was watching this weekend when Dye hit one, and Hawks call is nice. It made me laugh because he makes it sound like game 7 of a WS when its a spring training game in the middle of March.

Pods Returns, Let the Celebration Begin!
Thome hits them in bunches. I would hope he would stop hitting them now for about 11 days.

Pods Returns, Let the Celebration Begin!
Nick Masset didn't exactly dazzle today, did he?

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Yep. Are these irrevoccable waivers, because if they are, they will not be able to trade him. Either some team will claim him or he will be a FA.

Crede likely to start on opening day
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) It's pointless to keep going round and round, but you realize the only reason "your guy" Joe is still here is because the Sox can't find anyone to give them anything of value for him. If any GM was foolish enough to trade away a quality player for Joe, he would be long gone. Just something to think about. And the only reason "your guy" Josh is here is because Dombrowski was willing to give up Maybin and take Dontrelle Willis. Mark Buerhle was quoted the other day as saying he wants Crede playing 3rd. I'm sure most if not the entire pitching staff feels the same. While we hear how terrible Crede is, what besides hitting a few homers, has Josh Fields proven? Lets face it, there are question marks for both players.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
If this means Ramirez is going to get a lot of time at 2B, why is he in CF today? This is all very weird. Uribe is a very popular guy on the team. It could have some sort of effect on the team if they think he got screwed.
-
Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
I have been advocating Fields as a centerpiece for a Roberts deal. Even if Crede walks at the end of the year, you still have Ramirez who could probably play 3rd if you re-sign Cabrera. With Roberts leading off, the Sox line-up becomes as good as its ever been.

Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
The Tribune said he was waived according to a scout.

Crede likely to start on opening day
I think Boras has been humbled a little bit. See ARod and Lohse.

Crede likely to start on opening day
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) Who is Adam Dunne? He's not showing up on baseball reference. Dunn gets on a lot more. Joe Crede in 2002 hit homers at about the same rate as Fields did last year, and hit .280 or so. I have the feeling once Joe is gone, its only a matter of time the get rid of Fields threads will pop up. He really is one of 2 or 3 versions of the White Sox back up QB.

03/18/2008 - Sox vs. Padres gamethread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) Like I said, you need to have the bullpen constructed correctly. You really can't do it with a 6 man pen, you probably need a long man because you can't count on those guys for multi-inning performances in an extra inning game, you can't do it if you're trying to bury a guy who's struggling. The way the White Sox bullpen is constructed, it could be real dangerous because just about all of their middle relief guys average about an inning or less an appearance. (Linebrink, Dotel, MacDougal). You don't want Jenks to go more than an inning. Masset and Ohka are the 2 long guy candidates I guess, and if Wassermann and Logan are both on the team with the other 4 guys, the long man is going to have some pressure on him to eat some innings especially when you only have 2 guys in the rotation you really can count on to give you 6+ innings.

03/18/2008 - Sox vs. Padres gamethread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) IMO, there's nothing wrong at all with having a true ROOGY and a true LOOGY if your bullpen is constructed correctly. You've got Ortiz and Ramirez coming up in the 8th inning, you put in Logan for Ortiz, you put in Wasserman for Manny and Lowell, and then Jenks ends the game in the 9th. But you have to have enough other pitchers performing solid roles in the 7th inning and before for those guys to be used correctly to get through the roughest spot, since you're limited on roster spots for the pen. You might be able to get away with it in the AL, but there are going to be times a couple of guys in the bullpen aren't available and if you only have these specialists available, things could get ugly.

More Speculation About the Starting CF Job
I think there will be a trade or 2 before the season starts.

Brian Roberts Trade Idea
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) I think he passed up a 3/30m with the Phils and ended up signing a 1/3.5m with the Cards. That's a lot of guaranteed money he passed on. He ultimately made the decision though If he looked at his career numbers and was offered that contract, you're right, he's the fool for not signing it before the Phillies change their minds.
-
Brian Roberts Trade Idea
If the Sox were to trade Fields and lose Crede, if they re-signed Cabrera maybe Ramirez could play 3rd.
-
This is so crazy, it might just work! Naaah.
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) How is it hard to fathom that we are looking to get rid of Crede when he is represented by a man that the GM refuses to deal with, avoids his players like the plague and has his assistant GM deal with on year to year contracts. He is coming off an injury, and is going to provide no compensation as a type A or B free agent. We have someone waiting in the wings to take over, and his name is Josh. You dont need more players waiting in the wings, when you have a number 1 draft pick you feel high about ready to take over. Kenny has stated over and over that if Crede is on the team, Josh will be at AAA. Why is that, thats because they play the same position. If they really were going to approach moving him around dont you think for a second that Josh would be getting playing time at other positions. Maybe he would of played some winter league ball in that position. I have a hard time believing that they would have them both playing 3rd base and then with a week or so left, switcheroo on Josh to say X position. They should have tried him at 2B last year. He probably would be a better 2B than LF, they could have seen if he would be at least adequate, but it is too late now.
