  1. QUOTE(almagest @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) And how many runs has Ramirez scored or driven in this spring? Probably more than 2. Also, the pitcher is the person who has control over the batters before and after the error occurred, not Ramirez. Do you have anything else that's substantial, or just this one piece of anecdotal evidence? Crede sure has looked good being so healthy this spring, hasn't he? Can the Sox afford to wait until he's got his "timing" back, which stunts Fields' growth at the ML level, and with no guarantee Crede'll be able to put up numbers near his 2006 campaign? Also, hasn't Crede played in more than ONE major league season? And wasn't he spectacularly mediocre in those seasons? Why are you ignoring the rest of his career, then? Selectively pulling data that only supports your points doesn't make Crede a good hitter. It makes him a mediocre hitter with one good season, two years ago. Which is why strikeouts are so valuable. Also, while it's true that pitchers have little control on a ball after it's in play, they DO have a good deal of control over where and how it's hit. I'm just pointing out that defense is critical. BTW, does Pablo Ozuna look a lot bigger and stronger this year to anyone but me?
  2. QUOTE(almagest @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) A pitcher has WAY more control over that bases loaded double than a fielder does. Great defense is seldom going to save poor pitching, and great pitching seldom needs to rely on great defense. I'm not saying having good defensive players isn't needed, I'm questioning the logic of having no-hit, good fielding players anywhere NEAR the starting lineup. Crede fits these criteria, based on last year, this spring, and a good chunk of his career. Did you happen to see the pop up Ramirez let drop yesterday? Cost the team 2 runs. Crede hit over .280 with 30 homers in 2006. He was hitting over .300 with 28 homers in August when his back locked up worse than normal. He's healthy now. No hit is not a good description.
  3. I want Crede to play 3rd, but I really feel KW will unload him this week. He doesn't want to send Fields down, other teams offering not much figure that as well, and KW is holding out, but I think he will settle for garbage for Crede. I hope I'm wrong because I think that's a mistake.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) He's also the only ALCS MVP in team history. That's gotta count for something too. He also gave the correct person a nice WS souvenier.
  5. Get the slump out of your system in spring training and he'll be due for a hot streak.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) IIRC, when the Sox won the title in 05, they were damn good on the road. Don't those long road trips by definition get balanced by a lot of games at home? June is a good month for the White Sox. They are in TB on Sunday the 1st. Go to Detroit June10-12 play at the Cubs 1 weekend and have 3 games in LA vs. the Dodgers after 1 of the 4 off days. It all evens out. 7 games total outside of Chicago in a month. There are a few series that end on Monday this year which is odd.
  7. If you want to buy some time and increase debt there's always grad school.
  8. He'd be worth taking a flier on, but the Sox have guys in Anderson and Quentin that are probably better and don't have the playing time for.
  9. He'll miss the first week of the season, and the Sox play the Tigers. Maybe he'll even fall a litttle behind and be out of whack for the rematch a week later at USCF. Don't like to see players get hurt, but a broken finger missing a few games isn't too bad. I hope the Sox are able to take advantage.
  10. Larry Hughes is getting close to running out of room for tats.
  11. I wish the Sox were able to get Cabrera, but I wouldn't want to be on the hook for 8 years with him. He's liable to have to have a wall knocked out of his house 5 or 6 years from now so he can get to spring training. If he keeps his weight in check, this is a great deal for Detroit, and while he probably could get a couple extra dollars testing the market, why risk it, its more than enough for him to live in luxury the rest of his life.
  12. Noccioni was thrown off the bench by the Bulls' coaching staff tonight. The team is messed up.
  13. QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) 4-0 Sox. Roughing up Lilly. The guys on fire this spring continue. Pablo, Uribe and BA. Each has 2 hits. Quentin with a double.
  14. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) I've got to agree with you here. They need to quit wasting money on Hall. He isn't worth it. They should just bring Lucy up for 3 reasons. #1. He will probably be better than Hall and #2. He is a ton cheaper than Hall and #3. Let him develop in the majors. The problem is they are going to have to pay him no matter what. Lucy can use some more seasoning. Considering how due Hall is for a hot streak, they might as well keep him on the roster. The back-up catcher doesn't get much time with AJP around. If AJ gets hurt, the Sox are in trouble.
  15. They can't pawn him off on anybody, so instead of just paying him to do nothing, they will pay him to put on a uniform, get into a few games and do nothing.
  16. I thought Toby Hall would be a lock to improve over last year. Now I'm not so sure. He's stealing money.
  17. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) i hope you're not trying to make a point, it's uribe, he swung at every pitch and the hit was a blooper in shallow left field, and the RBI was a miscue on soriano misplaying what should've been an easy out everything went right for uribe and that RBI So you're saying he's not having a great spring? A hit is a hit. He got the job done. Yesterday he drove in the tying run in the 9th and scored the go ahead run.
  18. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) lol @ uribe batting 2nd 1-1 with an rbi. Spring average now .368.
  19. I like when a bar loads the urinal with ice. Its fun trying to melt it all.
  20. Sox would have won if the ball didn't take a ridiculous hop right into Phillips' face.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Ah, it only works when he's BAD in spring training to determine we should be worried, good outings must be taken with a grain of salt. OK. Good and bad should be taken with a grain of salt at this point of time.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) Do you get off comparing apples and oranges? Are you going to continue to bring in irrelevant player's name to try and posture. I have Crede's MAJOR LEAGUE NUMBERS to determine what he is as a player, that how I can determine that he sucks. Is there a team in the majors that would trade their 3B for Crede? I'm just pointing out that the same things you are saying about Fields you must of been saying about Crede 6 years ago. That he's only going to get better, blah, blah, blah, and now you say he sucks. BTW, throw out last year because he was hurt and Crede had been trending upward with average and slugging in 2005 and 2006.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) HAHAHAHA. Maybe you should bring my positive comments on haeger into the discussion. s***, lets bring the first 5 min of a test drive I did with a BMW if we are going to walk down that path. Once again, 2003 when Crede finally played full time, he performed about at what his career has been with a few years that have been outliers. Everyone including scouts expected him to break out, and up to this point, it really hasnt happened consistently Of course thats how baseball is, and the smart money is on Josh improving his numbers, considering he improved every month he played last season, has shown an extremely increased timeline on development for a player that wasnt all that polished when drafted, and has already shown he can equal the production of the current incumbent for less money for for much higher upside. Its a no-brainer. Than what do you base your enthusiasm about Carlos Quentin on? His 170 AB in 2006 and minor league numbers? It can't be his 2007. 200 AB in 2002 with Crede's minor league track record, he was MVP in AA and AAA, and now you think he sucks.
  24. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) I'm not comparing them, I'm just giving you an example of someone who SO a lot but also BB's a lot. I don't think you can compare Josh Fields to anyone yet. Not with a 1/2 a season of major leagues under his belt. But while Fields walks more than Crede, he doesn't walk a lot.
  25. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) Josh Fields has played 1/2 a season, too. Don't compare Josh Fields with Adam Dunn. Adam Dunn has a career OBP of .381 which happens to be Nick Swisher's career high, and Swisher will get on base a lot more than Fields.
