Guillen sent Marte home
"Firing" Marte right now would be silly. I was at the game and through out the whole team was going through the motions. They looked like a team just playing out the string, which if they play like this the rest of the season is exactly what they will be doing. The offense is piss poor. KW not getting a legitimate #3 hitter is really going to hurt this team. He has to make it a priority this off-season. Last Sunday was Kid's day, and Ozzie had the starters excused from signing autographs so they could get more rest. Personally, I found that to be ridiculous, but either this team is absolutely exhausted, or their record has gone to their heads. They complained about the small crowds, but won the games with smaller crowds. Hopefully they can beat up KC. If they lose 2 out of 3 there, its going to be a very stressful finish.

Everett is just lost right now.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Playoff preview kiddies. This is a good series for the Sox to be playing right now. Wish we were going to Boston 1 more time before Oct. It looks like if the Sox draw the Angels, they are in trouble. If the draw Oakland, that appears to be trouble. If its Boston, they might have a chance, and if its the Yankees they will have to pitch their asses off. This has been a very disappointing first 2 games against the Angels. Lackey has been tough lately. Getting swept is a distinct possibility.

Maybe the players should stop counting how many people are sitting in the stands and play some baseball.

Considering the White Sox never came back from a 2 run deficit the entire month of August, its a little disheartening the #1,#2, and #3 pitchers in the rotation have each blown a 2 run lead on consecutive days.

Will Buerhle fix himself before October?
If you look at the numbers, Contreras and Garcia are now have almost identical seasons. Contreras had a few tough luck no decisions, and was left in a little long and gave up some meaningless runs in other starts, or his stats and recent hot streak would make him a serious candidate to open the playoffs. I think Buerhle will pitch better in his next few starts, but if not, you can't have him your #1 starter in the playoffs.

My observations
BTW, Iguchi's throw wasn't that bad. AJ was so surprised Guerrrero was coming home, he was only prepared for a perfect throw. If he had been ready and in proper position Guerrero would have been out even with the poor throw.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) I think we are both a 52. I bet you he is bigger than a 52. Those things run really small. Cal Eldred was a 52 I believe.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) We are now 0-6 in extra innings at home. Not good for a team most likely to get homefield advantage. Someone had a stat where they haven't scored a run in any of the extra innings at home this season.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Just remember these two words: "Yo, chill" Jenks looks good. The next jersey I get will be with his name on it. Are you going to get his authentic size?

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Dye ain't no star, either. Let's face it we're winning with mirrors. We're gonna be hanging on by a thread before this is over unless the Tribe starts sucking. I don't care if we won 7 in a row; we're not playing good ball. I'm most pissed at Freddie for not beating the Royals the other night. That was one we needed to put away and sweep, not give up a 2 run blast to Berroa. We are only gonna go as far as Fred, Mark, Jon, our bullpen and our defense take us. If Fred, Mark and Jon don't dominate we are fricked. Freddy blew it yesterday, and Buerhle had runs to work with today. These guys make a lot of money to shut these teams down, and they didn't do the job.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) If only we had Frank. Everett was better when he had to split time with Frank. Or if only KW acquired someone at the deadline. Everett will probably get hot again at some point, but right now he is terrible.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) He hasnt all year. And whats sad is its not going to change in September. The weird part is he used to be so much better from the left side. Now he looks like Jose Valentin.

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) What the heck is wrong with Everett? How the heck you wanted to hit that way down low ball? Man, it's just so PAINFUL to see our hitters hit right now! He's really been brutal especially from the left side lately. He has no business batting third.

Everett needs to sit down a couple of games or at least move down in the line-up. He's swinging at everything right now. That last pitch bounced in front of the plate.
-
Game Thread Angels vs Sox 9/9 7:05
This game is over. The way Everett has been swinging he has no chance against this guy.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) A team that wastes those opportunites we did deserves to loss the game. And on top of that Jenks pitched his ass off for us and NOTHING. You are absolutely correct. The Sox don't deserve to win this one.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) What do we say about Iguchi's defense now? That throw was a little wide, but AJ was sleeping. If he had been better prepared for the play at the plate, he makes that catch and tag easily.

5 runs should have been enough to win tonight. Buerhle has been very dissapointing. For the first time ever, I felt he lost his composure with that fantom balk call.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) This is exactly where Buehlre needs to shut the Angels down. Nothing shifts momentum in a game and deflates you club like a pitcher giving up a lead immediately after scoring. That was quick.

Pauly gets the Sox the lead. Buerhle cannot give it up.

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) If the playoff starts right now, I DEFINITELY will have Contreras as my starting pitcher for game one. I just don't have the faith on Buerhle, Garcia or Garland right now. And it's sad to have that feelings! Contreras has very similar stats to Garcia this year, and he's pitched in a lot of bad luck. He had a few no decisions he should have won, and gave up some meaningless runs that raised his ERA.
