Have We Been Spoiled?
QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) The worst thing about this is, IF the worst-case scenario plays out we can never trust ANY lead the Sox might ever have again. ...and I'm not even sure how much I'm kidding about that.... You are right. If they don't make the playoffs this will be a more damaging season than if they lost 100 games.

Have We Been Spoiled?
QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) What is Ozzie ball anyway? I have no idea what kind of ball he is trying to get his team to play at this point. I'll take the bashing and the heat if it comes. Or the yawns and crickets for that matter. Ozzie is a train wreck of a Major League Baseball manager. You got that right.

Have We Been Spoiled?
This franchise hasn't won a championship in 88 years, and hasn't played in a World Series in 46 years. Spoiled is not a word you could possibly associate with White Sox fans.

Back to the 1940s - Sox vs Twinkies 9-17
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) The Corpseball 2005 Award for Futility goes to a coach who gets the least of of his talent. What does it say when Uribe can't hit sour apples, goes to Hriniak for a couple of days, and the next thing you know, he's the most dangerous hitter in the line-up? I think it means you need a better hitting coach.

One thing this collapse does bring is the obvious vision that this team has a hell of a lot of flaws. It isn't JR being cheap, the Sox have the highest payroll in the division by far, in fact it is $34 million higher than Cleveland. I'm pretty sure if this team didn't have this stretch and won the division by 15 games, there wouldn't be many changes even if they were swept in the first round of the playoffs. KW and more importantly JR now see this team needs to be a lot better no matter what Ozzie says. I hope this collapse, while I know it won't cause Ozzie his job, will at least take away his influence on roster make-up.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Thanks Walt Hrniak and his leg kick hitting trigger. Bring him back. Walker doesn't seem to be getting through to his hitters.

I hope they try something different against Santana next week. Santana's ERA against the Sox his last 7 starts is less than 1.00.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Cleveland got the memo, KC is the worst team in baseball. They will sweep them. We however have our number one and number 2 pitches s*** the bed, and our closer give up a bunch of hits. We scored a bunch of runs against the worst pitching staff in baseball and some people on here thought our offense was fixed. Run the Charlotte Knights out there and they will put up a 5-9 spot against the Royals. Prior to Hermanson s***ting his pants, KC had lost 158 out of 159 games when trailing in the 9th.

Why do other teams get hits off Santana?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) We took two 300+ hitters and replaced them with guys who hit 30 points less as their career average. Exactly. We took 2 guys who hit 300 with 30+ homers and 100+ rbis and replaced them with guys who hit for a lower average, score fewer runs and drive in fewer runs, and we were told that the offense was more balanced. The difference between this year's team and the past several is the pitching.

Duque has 2 wins since June 8th. If Ozzie insists on keep throwing him out there, playoff ticket refunds will commence Oct. 2.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) There's going to be a ton of Ozzie bashing around baseball and the radio today. The decision to start Duque today was worse than Manuel's decision to start Cotts against the Yankees. At least some people thought Cotts had a chance to succeed that game. To be honest with you, I'm glad he started today. They aren't going to beat Santana with any of their starters, so why waste a potential good start, and El Duque showed he should not be on the mound the rest of his life. I doubt even Ozzie could defend him now.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) Vizcaino saves el duque. Only down by 4. It might as well be 20. They aren't going to get 4 off of Santana.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) Huge understatement. He must be the easiest pitcher to steal off of in baseball. It almost guaranteed you will get to second if you run on Contreras. Its a lot harder to get to first off him, however.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) 3.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 103 pitches What a f***ing joke. What makes it a bigger joke is the line-up he was facing.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) KW asked for Flash Gordon. That's about as absurd of offering Jon Adkins for Ray Durham.....oh wait, that happened. If he got back a Flash Gordon baseball card he would have made an incredible deal.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Maybe the Yankees will take him back. No I'm not kidding. Back in June or July they enquired. KW needed to pull the trigger, even if they gave nothing back.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) Duque has retired 9 guys, and allowed 7 base runners today. The guy is done. The fact that he is signed through next season is a real problem for the Sox. That's $5 million they could be using on someone who is actually effective.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Lead off man on.... Duque's going to reach 90 pitches. They're gonna score this inning, And Morneu homers as I type... HR f*** El DUQUE El Duque is a huge waste of $9 million. But today he has no chance. The Sox will be lucky to get 3 or 4 hits.
