Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Ok thats my point!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the team's success has swelled Ozzie's ego so much that he thinks he can win with whatever crap he throws out there.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
If Konerko isn't hurt, and your only option is to play Timo at 1B, and you have an off day the next day.......Why does Konerko need to be rested? Its baseball, not too grueling of a sport. If it had been 90 degrees with 85% humidity the last couple of weeks maybe, but that and inserting Walker were two of the dopiest moves I have ever seen made. I bet you Konerko feels the same this morning whether he played last night or not.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Which is why I said virtual rookie. If not for his first big league season in 2000, I believe he would be classified as a rookie. From '01-'04, he's appeared in 16, 11, 11 and 5 games. 28 2/3 innings pitched over a four year span. For all intents and purposes, evaluating his performance at this level is no different than evaluating a rookie. He's untested, unproven. That was the point I was making. It's not like the Sox management can use past performance in evaluating and deciding whether to keep him or send him down. If he had been lights out for that inning or even two, he might have earned a roster spot. They may be what Ozzie and KW were trying to determine. Trying to determine if a guy is worthy of a roster spot by throwing him into that situation when he has appeared in exactly 1 game for 1 inning the last 17 days would the craziest thing Ozzie has ever done.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(Wanne @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Not to pile on Oz like he deserves with a) Timo at 1st and B) Walker which I think everybody is agreed upon. But did anybody see PK go up to OZ and say, "hey...lemme hit..." or "I'm f***in battin Skip"? Didn't I read already that PK was completely given the night off and skipped pregame as well? My point is...if PK had some nads...he shoulda thrown 'em on the table. He looked a little perplexed in the dugout when he didn't get a chance. If Uribe only waited a millisecond more on the next to last pitch, the Sox win 11-10.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) He doesn't drop that throw to 1st and this thread doesn't exist. Timo is f***ing horrible. That's true, but is it his fault he is put in a position he has never played? He was set-up to fail, and fail he did. AJ's throw could have been a lot better, but that play is made in most little league games.

Is it just coincidence, or has Ozzie's handling of the bullpen and line-ups gotten even more questionable since his contract extension?

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I would hate to see what people consider a ''badly'' pitched game by vizcaino. The bullpen has been pretty shaky lately. It seems they have 3 balls on every batter they face. Hermanson wasn't exactly lights out tonight either.
-
Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
Vizcaino wasn't that bad tonight. He was more effective than Walker and Hermanson. He should have been brought in to start the 7th, but the Angels had 3 or 4 lefties up, and Ozzie loves lefty/lefty matchups no matter how poor his LHP is.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) By the way, take me out of Cruddy's Crew or I'll do it myself, lol. Finally see the light? It shined upon me when they were in Oakland.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
Ozzie is too in love with the lefty/lefty matchups. That's why Walker was in.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) And it cost us 2 runs, maybe 3 specifically. Also, because of Timo's defense, he likely cost us from having Contreras pitch the 7th inning. How anyone can defend using Timo as the 1b replacement simply shocks me. Timo's error added 22 pitches to Contreras' pitch count.
-
Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
Playing Timo at 1B tonight was the biggest joke of all time. His error not only cost the team 2 runs, it ran up Contreras' pitch count significantly. How you put in a mop-up guy in a 1 run game is ridiculous. Get over the lefty/lefty matchups. If the pitcher sucks, that doesn't matter. Its almost as if Ozzie is seeing what he can get away with now.

White Sox v. Angels Game Thread 5/31/05
I'm really sick of the White Sox treating Erstad like the .340 hitter he used to be. He is a .265 hitter with little power against the rest of the league. Quit trying to be so pretty against the guy, and you'll get him out.
-
Marte
He gave up 2 cheap hits. Erstad's was a shot. Pods gave up on a ball too soon, top flight defensive LF's would have had it. Rowand deked the runner silly on the little bloop to him and if someone was on second, they would have had the force. The gun at USCF had Marte at 94 today and 96 yesterday. I thought in Toronto something may be wrong with his arm the way he was shaking it in the bullpen. I don't think that is the case anymore. It was misfortune that got Marte today. He pitched a lot better than the result. He will be fine.

White Sox v. Angels Game Thread 5/31/05
According to the ESPN ticker, the Big Hurt is not in tonight's line-up. Everett is the DH.
-
SOX vs. Angels 5-30-05
I read the last few posts. I was at the game, and it clearly was one of the most curiously managed games I have ever witnessed. Timo batting for Thomas when you have a few decent hitters on the bench. Letting Crede, after he popped a bunt into a DP and almost a TP try to bunt again, and failing, but getting the walk. Batting Everett for Iguchi, probably the most clutch hitter this season, and just dying to atone for his huge error. Not using Hermanson who was ready, and who hasn't allowed a run all season in the 9th, after Buerhle had wiggled out of some jams the previous couple innings. But it all worked out. I would have never thought I would be leaving USCF to the chant of "Timo, Timo" today or anyday. It was truely a weird day.

Robbie Gordon is a freaking twit
If its such an advantage, why are these drivers weighing 200+ lbs. This is taking whining to a whole new level. Do they b**** and moan about drivers who weigh 150? Danica did herself proud today. Dan Wheldon, the guy who won the race and has won 4 out of 5 races weighs in at 157. Maybe Robbie Gordon should go on a diet.

Cubs Trade Latroy Hawkins
For a guy who has supposedly been so terrible the past season and a half with the Cubs, Hawkins had pretty good numbers.

Prior just went down on a line drive
QUOTE(Steff @ May 27, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) He arrived at Northwestern via ambulance with his wife and trainer. If he went to the ER and he was just your average person, he would probably only have to wait a couple more hours to be attended to.

Prior just went down on a line drive
QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) I highly doubt Prior actually drove himself! I know he's the Messiah and all, but it would seem painful to have to keep your right elbow elevated while you drive. I agree. I doubt the Messiah drives himself anywhere.

Prior just went down on a line drive
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Not true. He reported alex cora was signed by the indians... two days later. That's right. His cell phone was going off, and then had breaking news.

Prior just went down on a line drive
QUOTE(Steff @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) No report on air. They would not allow that without absolute confirmation... Why not? Most of the stuff Levine reports anymore isn't true anyway.
-
Prior just went down on a line drive
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Not sure how credible this is, but some dude on the Cubs board said that Bruce Levine just reported that they think Prior broke a bone in his elbow. Haven't heard this, so take it for what its worth. As secretive as the Cubs are about their injuries, I really doubt they would inform Levine of this before he is even X-rayed. I didn't see it, and he may have broken his elbow, but I doubt Levine has reported it yet.

Prior just went down on a line drive
Does anyone remember Garland got smoked on a liner that looked to be right on the elbow in one of his first appearances in a White Sox uniform. Luckily it was just above it. He was rolling around in pain as well.

Who would you pick
If Bill Almon is the worst Sox player ever, they haven't had many bad players. Worst player for me was Scott Ruffcorn. Absolutely brutal. I think he was up with the team for parts of 4 seasons. I never saw him have a good inning. Not one. He was highly touted as well.
