  1. QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Lets hope he doesn't have to go on the DL, he is the best hitter we have right now. From the looks of it, it doesn't look like he'll be swinging the bat any time soon.
  2. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) How many outs does El Duque need to get? Everett's was an easy fly ball. Uribe blew a double play. He does not need to settle down, the defense needs to apologize and beg him for forgiveness. SB That would never have been a DP. One thing was the bad hop it took. Another was the radical shift they had on made it impossible for Harris to get to the bag in time. It also was debatable whether or not Uribe would have gotten the batter if he fielded it cleanly. Hawk thinks it will be changed to a hit.
  3. It definitely is Everett's shoulder that was injured. He grabbed it right away and Herm was rubbing in. Then Carl started trying to stretch it and was in too much pain to continue. One thing this play shows is that Carl's fielding glove should be thrown in the garbage. He is strictly a DH now.
  4. Leitao is taking the Virginia job. Bad news for the Demons.
  5. In high school I was playing CF and a ball was hit deep. They had those wooden snow fences around the field. There were no warning track and I knew I was getting close so I jumped/dove and the ball glanced off my glove but stayed in the park. Unfortunately for me, I went flying over the fence and knocked the wind out of myself. One of my closest friends was playing LF and he picked up the ball and could barely throw it back to the infield he was laughing so hard.
  6. QUOTE(toasty @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) "They, like the F&F seats" I may be dense, but what are F&F seats? I think it is the friends and family section
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Why? He would catch the ball, have no chance whatsoever at throwing someone out at 2nd (I wouldn't even expect him to throw), but he might still get someone trying to steal 3rd. He came up as a catcher, it doesn't ALL go away. Although Konerko started out a catcher, I doubt he is the White Sox emergency catcher. Guys who don't know what they're doing can easily get hurt back there, and I doubt the White Sox would want to risk one of their best offensive players for this. I have never understood the philosophy about saving the back up catcher, but a lot of managers use it. I agree with the earlier post that the odds of Widger getting hurt enough to leave the game is very small.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Contreras has a 3.55 ERA after two starts. That ain't bad. Considering at least 1 run and maybe 2, which were both earned runs tonight, shouldn't have scored due to shoddy defense, I think its excellent.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Pierzynski's double was huge. But on a serious note -- no excuse for Harris not to be in the game at that point. A lot of us were calling for that right after AJ hit the double, and it almost cost us big time. Ozzie f***ed up there, JMHO... Its a good point, but I'm sure Ozzie's thinking is he doesn't want to use Widger unless AJ gets hurt, because if he goes down, then a non catcher will have to catch. I wish he used the same philosophy with the bullpen the first loss of the season. The Sox would be 7-1 right now.
  10. Why on the Comcast White Sox post game show is there a photo of the Wrigley Field marquee right behind the host? C'mon Comcast, put a couple of hundred dollars together and switch that to USCF, at least for the White Sox shows.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Call it what you like to, but it wasn't a part of the money and plans from the $60 million US Cellular sponsorship. That original point is that the renovations from the US Cellular money were used up on the five big renovations that have been done the last 5 years. The seats were something extra that was not a part of the this plan or from the money that paid for those plans. The seats were going to get replaced anyway as they only had a 10-15 year expected lifetime because of Chicago weather conditions, and it was a coincidence that their changing happened during the time of the US Cellular renovations. I'm not arguing with you, but the article says the changeover is complete, yet they will be changing the seats all year, and supposedly won't be done until opening day next year. That doesn't make sense. I'll bet you a beer that in addition to the color change, there will be other alterations to the seating sections of USCF. It may not be the so-called HR porch, but I do think they will increase capacity.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) The teams announcement for the seat change said it was in addition to the other renovations. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...r_cws&fext=.jsp This is because the phase 5 renovations had already been announced and were in progress Maybe they had some funds left over, and decided to do it now. Changing seats whether it is to change the color scheme or because the other ones are worn out is a renovation.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) The seats changing wasn't a part of the big renovation plans. It was just something that needed to be done with time. The only reason that anyone noticed was because they changed colors. The renovations are done. I hadn't heard anything about the out of town scoreboard though, what's that all about? They changed the scoreboard because it was costing them too much to fix, and have that listed as part of the renovation. The seats are definitely part of the renovation, and have been advertised as such. JR was on the news the other day, and even he spoke about how nice the park will look with green seats. Personally, I couldn't care less about the color of the seats. The out of town scoreboard was listed early as something that was supposed to be replaced. All other electronic boards have been. When they changed the other boards I remember reading they didn't change the out of town board because of the planned deck in right, and that the board would have to be relocated. The fact that that board hasn't been updated leads me to believe that a deck in RF is still very possible. I would imagine they would have to get a sponsor to pay for it.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) I bet the people over at WSI are dissapointed because they're not getting their HR Porch. Thank God. That would've closed the open concourse up way too much. I wouldn't assume the home run porch is dead. The story contradicts itself when it says the renovation is done while they are still changing the seats. The out of town scoreboard is going to be changed. I always assumed they were waiting until they erected the porch, because it would have to be moved.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) There was one time during a ST game years ago when it was Hawk and Wimpy, and there was a shot of some woman in a bikini... Hawk made some over-the-top comment about the shots they get of woman (I can't remember exactly what it was so I won't state what it is as a quote). I'm pretty sure it was along the lines of "we get the best beaver shots in all of baseball" well there was obviously silence for a few seconds with muffled laughter in the background... finally Wimpy gets it together and simply says "That's Ken Harrelson, courtesey of Sportschannel" it was simply hilarious It was in Oakland about 10 years ago. Every shot was of a well endowed woman in a bikini and Hawk said to Wimpy," Wimpy, I'll tell you one thing about this camera crew in Oakland-------------- they're the best beaver shooters in the league." I couldn't believe it. I thought he might get in trouble.
  16. For parking you could go to Jimbo's 33rd and Princeton, ask for a parking pass. They'll give you one if you promise to return it after the game and suck back some food and drink in there. You can also try the same thing at Shinnock's 38th and Union, or have a pre -game lunch at Shaller's 38th and Halsted and park in their lot for free and walk to the game.
  17. Why are so many people so down on Joe Crede, but think Jermaine Dye is a total stud? Have you looked at the numbers?
  18. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) i expect a very good game from freddy( ) because suposably he didnt have his stuff his last start, yet he gave up only 2 runs, one which was because a balk. if the sox win today, they have a very good chance to take the sereis. c'mon sox and lets make it 3 series wins in a row! (i wonder if ozzie would use shingo in the 9th if it calls for a save situation.) ... I was shocked to see Freddy in the dugout last night. I would have thought with the late game and early start today, he would have gone to Cleveland ahead of the rest of the team. I hope he's sharp.
  19. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) I may be wrong, but hasn't IRod been criticized in recent years for his poor game calling ability? I swear that was the knock against him when he was a free agent before last season. That's correct. When there is a runner on first he usually calls for fastballs to give himself a better chance at throwing out runners.
  20. Every win you get in April is one less you have to get in any other month. The games count just as much in the standings. Radke is just pissed because he is 0-2, and has no answers.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) I know there's few people on this threat tonight, but am I the only one not impressed with the Twins at all this year? I don't even care if I jinx the Sox tonight, I'm not impressed with the guys they've called up to replace their old starters. Bartlett looks like someone who you can jam whenever you want. Losing Silva will be a massive loss for them. I was thinking that. I also was thinking that the Sox caught a huge break or unbreak however you want to think about it, when Buerhle being out 6 weeks turned out to be a false alarm. Perhaps a sign of things to come.
  22. While I think his analyst work has improved, the last inning showed that DJ has to be one of the worst play-by-play announcers of all-time.
  23. Trevor Hoffman got lit up also a couple of days ago. Larry Bowa thinks its because closers don't get enough work in spring training. They don't get their arms stretched out and are missing their spots. He thinks everyone, including Shingo, will be fine after they get some more work.
  24. Dick Allen replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ozzie was quilty of overmanaging today with using his entire pen, when it really wasn't necessary. It's weird that he only allows pitchers to face 1 hitter, but leaves Shingo in to allow 3 home runs. He blew through his entire bullpen and Vizciano had to take one for the team. I'm not a fan of Ozzie as a manager, but I don't think he's dumb, and I'm sure he has learned something from this game. Taking 2 out of 3 is a positive first step.
