  1. This team is playing a lot like the 1990 team. I don't know if there are many people around here that remember that season. Hawk always refers to it as his favorite season. They won games like they are winning now. Not many hits, but timely ones. They also won a few games on wild pitches. Grebeck and Guillen went back to back off Nolan Ryan. It was a fun time. If you look at the stats that year, you would have thought they were a team that shouldn't contend. Fisk led them with 18 homers. Calderon lead the team with 74 rbi. There will be bumps in the road, there always is, but there is no reason the winning shouldn't continue no matter what Jeff Brantley has to say.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) You are under the mistaken impression that I care if I impress you. I'm not real worried about impressing someone that doesn't know the difference between "balling" and "bawling". Spelling is not one of my strong suits.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Just exactly what name did I call you? I never said you called me a name. You referred to Magglio as a"whiny little b**** who can't shut the f*** up." That was the name calling I was referring to. Using phrases like that doesn't do anything for me.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Because he doesn't share your opinion and thinks Ozzie's fire is a good thing..?? Good grief.. I think Ozzie should keep his trap shut but I'm not going to go s***ting on others because I don't agree with them. No, for his reply giving me the finger, plus using the same vulgar language his idol Ozzie uses. I answered all his questions in his reply to me, but then he had to go name calling, losing all his credibility with me.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) Ok ... My credibility is shot because you say so. :rolly One other thing ..... :fyou You're a moderator and that's how you reply? Grow up.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Olivo probably wasn't told that the pitchers didn't want to throw to him, but I'd bet he was talked to about his game calling on numerous occasions. As for him "balling" when traded, he didn't want to be traded. What's that got to do with this issue? Nothing, that's what. As for Lee, if Ozzie would have named him would that have been better in your esteemed opinion. And Magglio, he's brought this s*** upon himself. He's a whiny little b**** that can't shut the f*** up and Ozzie let him have it. Good for Ozzie I say. Why can't Ozzie call the game from the dugout? A lot of teams have the pitches called by someone in the dugout. The fact that he was balling shows he didn't want to leave even though he apparently wasn't wanted, at least by the pitching staff. If pitchers didn't want to throw to him, and he was told this, he wouldn't have been upset being told he was going someplace else. Ozzie has to bring this up a year after the guy is dealt. Why? It would have been better if Ozzie mentioned Lee by name, because he is supposed to be a straight shooter, and he has no problem mentioning everyone else by name. You lost all credibility with the end of your reply.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) People have a tendency to assume something didn't happen if it was never reported in the press. I'd bet Ozzie and Coop talk to Olivo about his game calling skills, or lack thereof, many times. I know KW and Ozzie talked to Lee about what they expected from him, as that was reported in the press shortly after the Hunter/Burke game. The fact that Olivo balled like a little kid and was in total shock when he was traded would indicate to me Ozzie hadn't told him about pitchers not wanting to throw to him. If I or anyone was a catcher who pitchers didn't want to throw to, I would not be shocked if I was traded, nor would I be sad about it. Concerning Lee, KW had mentioned many times how they stroked Carlos, telling him he was a great fielder etc. Ozzie popping off at Soxfest about Lee going into second base, but of course, not mentioning him by name was a cheap shot. His vulgar language and personal threats to Magglio is just wrong, especially to an organization trying to promote a family type atmosphere. That kind of talk is going to attract the kind of scum that hop on the field and try to bust up umpires.
  8. QUOTE(ISF @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I giggled when he said this was the same stuff Bowa got canned over. Bowa is not a player's manager. Guillen hangs with the players and is honest with them, they aren't worried about what Guillen will say behind their back, they're too busy hearing it to their face. Donovan forgot to address the possibility that maybe Ordonez is just a whiny who has blamed everyone but the man in the mirror for his not re-signing with the Sox. He had 14 million reasons to do so and decided to say no. Ozzie is not going to take that crap from anyone, and I don't blame him. Give him hell I say. Ozzie is straight with the players? Did he tell Lee that he would be traded because he didn't go into 2nd hard, like he told the audience at Soxfest? Did he tell Olivo that the pitchers didn't like throwing to him like he has told the press time and time again? Did he tell Frank he had a horrible attitude to his face or did he just announce it to the press. He's straight alright. Just as soon as they hit the road. It is a shame that the 15-4 record isn't getting half the play in the press as Ozzie's mouth. This might work for a while, but believe me, these players that think its funny now, won't think its too funny if it is the end of August and they still have the best record and all the stories are about the stupid things that come out of the manager's mouth. Its time JR and KW to sit this guy down and tell him they want to run a classy not crassy organization. If these quotes keep up, it will in the long run, be very detrimental to the organization.
  9. He looks like Joey Cora
  10. This could be the White Sox lucky year. Wright seemed to be going to the White Sox this past winter until Steinbrenner threw a wad of cash his way. He has been getting lit up this season, and left today's game with a sore shoulder after giving up 3 long ones. His ERA actually went down today, and is a tad over 9.00.
  11. Another good question to ask would be: Would your answer be the same if the Sox were 4-13 instead of 13-4?
  12. While I do like fire in a manager, there's another thing called class. If you want to say Magglio deserved it, fine. But Guillen is going over the line. I don't care if he said Buerhle is been much better than Wood and Prior. That's fine, they have never played for the Sox. His hatchet job on Frank again was total BS. Talk about getting over something, how many times do we have to hear pitchers didn't like throwing to Olivo. Ozzie popping off about that again a year after the guy was traded, unprovoked, was total BS. Everybody knew he was talking about Lee when he made the comment about a guy going into 2B like his wife was turning the DP. He also said that is why the player isn't here right now. The fact is the media is now going to try and bait Ozzie into another diatribe. There are a lot of things Ozzie has said and done that the media has actually turned its collective head on. A major embarrassment for the organization is just waiting to happen. My advice to him would be at press conferences to talk about the game, and always protect your players. Try to keep your mouth shut about other things and remember he is representing the White Sox organization every time he's in front of a microphone.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Correction.. they were not illegal in baseball at the time. Were they legal or just not tested for? I really don't know the answer. I always assumed steriod use without a prescription was illegal. I am also assuming if Guillen knew anything about Ordonez and steriod usage he would have picked that knowledge up last season when they definitely were banned.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) Why..? They were legal at the time. Steriods are legal?
  15. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Bernstein on the Score this morning drew the same inference - that Ozzie knows that Maggs used roids, and could "hurt" Maggs that way. Bernstein also recalled a conversation from their opening day remote. He said he told KW "Did you know that edema can cause your forearms to shrink?" jokingly, and KW just ignored the opening. FWIW. I doubt that he is referring to steriods. If Guillen comes out and says he knew Maggs used roids, and he's a member of management, he is going to have a lot of explaining to do in the commissioner's office.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) In the Southtown article Guillen makes it clear that Maggs played hard for him. KW thanked Maggs for the years that he played here and the numbers he put up at Soxfest. Ozzie went out of his way to compliment Maggs before this series started. Guillen has tried to help Magglio Ordonez at every stage of his career, even before Maggs was on the 40 man roster. Only one person won't let this go, and keeps bringing it up after everyone has gone quiet about it. And it hasn't been just once, it has been repeatedly. And since Ozzie's character got attacked in this one, I don't blame him at all for snapping. Ozzie has probably done more for Magglio's career than any other individual, and this is how Maggs repays him. Good for Oz. Ozzie has done s*** for Magglio's career. Ozzie would love to take full credit for it, but it was Magglio who earned his way to the major leagues, not Ozzie popping off to Schueler about him. Ordonez was hitting .329 when he was called up in 1997. I think Maggs played 21 games in 1997 with Guillen as a teammate. Their paths did not cross again until 2004 long after Ordonez established himself as one of the better players in the game.
  17. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) My take is that Ozzie pulled some strings for him, we could've lost him Rule V long ago and now Maggs is pissing in his Cheerios. This sounds very personal and you know what, I like Ozzie showing he isn't just this jolly rube but a fiery SOB. Maybe AJ is wearing off on some people. Maggs was exposed to the rule 5 and went unclaimed. Ozzie didn't pull any strings for Maggs, Schueler was in charge. Maggs performance level increased, I believe he was batting Jeff Abbott for a minor league hitting crown. It was his increased production that earned him a trip to the major leagues.
  18. Ozzie can dish it out, but can't take it. He's criticized Olivo who hasn't said anything in response. He criticized Lee who hasn't said anything in response. He criticized Frank and Frank's not supposed to say anything. Maggs said he doesn't like Ozzie and Ozzie goes off on an expletive-laiden rant, basically saying he can mess with Magglio in many different ways. Not every Venezuelan needs Ozzie's friendship to survive. Maggs needs to move on, no doubt about it, but Ozzie's yapping won't do anything to help make that happen.
  19. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) look at my avatar That's why I said what he really thinks.
  20. Just wait until you hear what Frank Thomas really things about Ozzie when he's playing on another team next year.
  21. At Blackhawk games-if you try to come back to your seat while the game is going on, they do not let you back until there is a stoppage in play. I have encountered this problem, and usually its not too bad. But if you get the person who is intent on dropping $200 on concessions it will make for a pretty miserable evening if you are trying to watch the game. My advice is to sit in the Club level if you can. Not as many people, and even fewer who are trying to make the Guiness Book of World Records for beer consumption. With the smoking, get an usher or security, and they will put a quick stop to it.
  22. Its the gopherball
  23. You can't hide a knee injury. Magglio obviously has something wrong with him on the inside. Hopefully its not serious. If you really believe he can cover up pain in his knee with a claim of a hernia, I have some authentic 2003 White Sox World Series rings to sell you.
  24. Everett dogging it down the line may cost the Sox a run or 2.
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:51 AM) How about a starting lineup of Pargo, Pike, Griffin, Reiner, and that new guy we signed. Thats a winner. I was walking into my building the other day, and Reiner was with friends walking out. That dude is huge.
