  1. Very different circumstance, and if you remember, in 2012 Paulie was hitting around .400 when he messed up his wrist, something the team characterized as no big deal. When he came back, he was never the same. There wasn't the #3 overall pick waiting to take his place, and Paulie played for $2.5 million. Abreu and Dunn were around. Paulie was clearly a back up.
  2. I wouldn't trade for Moustakas unless the Reds were eating most of his deal, but it wouldn't surprise me if either Vaughn or Sheets or both show they are ready to play in 2022 that it will be Abreu's last year with the team. I know JR loves him, but he loves Robin Ventura and Mark Buehrle and Frank Thomas, and he let them walk. When it's time, it's time.
  3. Yeah but these guys don’t have to go to the terminal wait for ther flight, check in, carry their bags, and security for them is a breeze. Playing for Toronto is probably a bigger pain in the ass as you probably have to go through customs on every trip.
  4. They spent $13 million on Yonder Alonso and Jon Jay. It wouldn't cost them half of that to throw at their minor leagues and get better, cheaper solutions.
  5. The threat of jail is pretty good motivation. He's been given so many chances in baseball. He hasn't been a good pitcher since 2015. I guess admitting snorting coke and taking oxy in the clubhouse and dugout, and providing drugs for his teammates will finally be end of his chances.
  6. Sox promos are out. They are giving away Central Division Champs pennants on March 31. Does anyone want to bet?
  7. Don't make him be the point guard. Just let him shoot and shoot and shoot, and he goes from being below average to pretty valuable. It's so nice having a coach who knows what he is doing.
  8. Phil Rogers used to rank them how Dave Wilder gave them to him. True story.
  9. But again these guys don't get charged because their accusers don't want to press charges and you do get a story about what happened. If they wanted to press charges, they ulimately would at least be charged. Was Bauer even arrested? His accuser didn't not refuse to press charges. And any suspension would be like Ozunas who was on admin leave like Bauer was last year, and it counted as time served.
  10. If he isn't charged with anything, I don't see how they can suspend him. Ozuna got suspended for beating the crap out of his wife, including doing it while the cops were there. His wife ultimately refused to press charges. I think he just got reinstated. Bauer isn't on his level IMO, but he's a bit creepy, and probably crossed a line, but I don't think the league or the Dodgers have a legal leg to stand on if he isn't charged. It isn't like the accuser backed down.
  11. yes, but he did pitch for them for a while. $45 million not to pitch? Highly unlikely IMO, and I don't see, without being charged with anything, how they get out of it.
  12. I think he will play because eventually the Dodgers are going to be forced to pay him and I think he is over $40 million in 2022.
  13. The Sox of the mid 90s used to play rent a RF really well. Ellis Burks, DJ, Mike Devereaux, Danny Tartabull, Dave Matinez were all better than average, then came Maggs, then Dye. I guess the odds were bound to catch up with them. It looks like with Story not willing to change positions, the high priced 2B are probably all spoken for. I would rather they spend the cash on a 2B than RF, but would rather they spend it on a RF than pocket it.
  14. Because of who gets the rest of the pie. Owners are the ones who gave players 40 million contracts. So apparently they have the money.
  15. The NFL also shares their revenue. Most of the teams are near the cap. Unless you are going to make the money teams are playing with more equal like the NFL, the number is totally unreasonable. I also saw where the NFL cap is expected to be 256 million in 2024.
  16. When you are that far apart there is nothing to negotiate. The thresholds tell you all you need to know. The owners don’t care if they blow up the sport. It’s their way or the Highway. It’s pretty sad.
  17. If time is of the essence, and the owners had these proposals for days, why wait until Saturday to deliver them? Seems to me they know the response, and the closer they get to the Super Bowl, the news that spring training and therefore the beginning of the season will be delayed, will be buried by the big game.
  18. I was watching MLB Network yesterday and Dan O'Dowd was talking about spring training. It's not only all the people who plan trips around it, it's the municipalities that built these teams these complexes. They expect revenue. It's really the only sport that could piss people off by shortening the pre-season.
  19. Is there really any reason to be even slightly optimistic after Manfred's talk? Of course he is going to say it is a great deal, so much owner concession, etc. I just hope there is something there that keeps them talking. On the other hand, there was no reason to ever believe this deal wasn't going to come down to the last second if missing games was going to be avoided once the lockout occurred. But I just think we are going to be dismayed tomorrow when we get the players' response.
  20. You do get a bit of a pass if you attempt to murder someone and aren't successful vs. succeeding. If you have 2 DUIs, either you are the most unlucky person in the world or you have driven when you shouldn't have many times. It is hard to believe, but DUI wasn't that big of a deal until the last 20 or 30 years. I know someone who had DUIs on consecutive days in the 80s. He was out in AZ for spring break. He got a plane ride home, his friends drove back in his car.
  21. Of course it isn’t true. People pick the wrong stock all the time. Some highly paid experts recs haven’t matched the overall market and you have to pay them. What exactly is the huge risk owning a baseball team? Who ever went belly up? There is always a couple of billion waiting for you when you can’t handle the pressure anymore.
  22. Theis probably hates deadline day.
  23. Caruso, Ball, Vuc, Lavine and DeRozan have played 95 minutes together.
  24. I know Harden is great....but there is something about him to me that makes me think he is a tad overrated. Of course Simmons wasn't playing, but i'm not sure they are a ton better than they were. I really like the trade for Brooklyn. Harden was going to leave and/or start causing problems. Simmons is a nice match since he doesn't have to score, and Curry has been really good. Plus some first rounders. I get if you ae a Sixers fan being excited about it, but they only play with one ball.
  25. So your better off playing the stock market than owning a baseball team. How dumb does Manfred think we are?
