The MLB lockout is lifted!
I think they shoud get a bigger cut of pie, but I am all for luxury tax. I do think changes have to be made to maximize teams trying to compete.

But if they are good and put up a 5 WAR season, you will have to pay them $40 million.

Most owners would still be rich and do whatever they want if the value of their teams went to zero. If they never collected another paycheck from playing baseball, a ton of players would be in trouble. Owners have the upper hand, and usually do in most labor disputes.

It happens in most industries I bet the entertainers you mentioned didn't have a great deal for them their first couple of releases. Those out of college don't get paid what they are worth. right away. The big accounting firms and law firms pay them a decent wage, make them work crazy hours all for hopefully a big payoff eventually. As long as you are working for someone else, gettting what you are "worth" is pretty tough. They take their cut first. If I had to do it over again, the one thing I would do is work for myself. You get all of the blame and all of the credit. And baseball worth is a tricky thing. You pay Trout $80 million a year, you probably have a team that is going to lose close to 100 games unless your owner loves paying the tax and your fans love paying $200 to sit in the bleachers.

2021 NFL Season Thread
Michael was bad, George doesn't seem to be a football person and almost admits it, the problem is the rest of the McCaskeys probably know less about football than those 2 or they would have a bigger voice. Bears fans are stuck with George. Maybe he gets lucky and hires a gem. Chances are it will be more of the same, but at least it isn't guaranteed. George actually fired Pace. That is huge. Maybe something will be different this time. Considering how much money they blow on guys like Glennon and Foles and Dalton and Graham, you wonder why they don't hire a guy like Polian or a Jimmy Johnson type to head the football department. Be the guy to bounce things off the GM. Be another evaluator. Give recommendations to them and George. Straighten it out once and for all.

The other problem the new coach and GM have is they, just like Nagy with Mitch, have to be married to Fields. While Fields has a ton of potential, he did have the 4th lowest QB rating for anyone starting 10 games since the came up with stat.

Kreuetz asked Heistand if his $15 an hour recollection was correct. Heistand told him it was.

Right. It eventually will lead to George anyway. George just has to be smart enough to let football people make football decisions. He can see how the money works with others, but there is no way he should be involved in football decisions. Polian should be making this hire. Edit. I thought George oonsulted with Polian, now I am reading he just read his book. Well, maybe somehow he will get lucky.

Hopefully Polian has the loudest voice in the room. As great as the NFL is, it's better for the league if the New York teams and the Bears are actually good.

People inherit companies every day and have no idea how to run the business. The smart ones either sell or hire someone who knows what they are doing to make them some money. These guys make money in spite of themselves. If they had a clue, their asset would be worth even more.

suppostedly his relationship with Tua is pretty bad. Might be a red flag.

I'm pretty sure Speilman used to work for the Bears, so if they liked him, I'm sure he will get an interview.

7 seasons, 1 winning season. Whoever says Ryan Pace drafted well isn't paying attention.

Another good sign....Ted is not going to be part of the press conference.

I think when Nagy said at the press conference that both Pace and himself can take credit for Fields, he was giving some info.

He can get a job there that pays more than the Bears were willing to pay Kruetz.

If Nagy was getting fired and Pace was the one making the call on a new coach, firng Nagy last week would have been the call to get a jump on the new hire. The fact that Nagy is still there does seem to indicate Pace isn't hiring the new coach. I've probably mentioned this before, but one of my best friends lives in Des Moines, and is a dead ringer for Ryan Pace. He gets heckled all the time.

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
They put him in some category I had no idea existed where he is ineligible to sign a minor league contract during the lockout if he wanted.

And even though Eaton was released, he technically can't even sign a minor league contract. I think at one time he was a player rep. I bet that has something to do with messing with him.

2021-22 NBA Thread
He's also the best player or at least 2nd best, on a really bad team and gets a lot more defensive attention than he would on the Bulls. I have no idea what they do, but I'm starting to think the new guys in charge seem to know what they are doing. Give him 54 and some goggles. Uncle Horace would be thrilled.

Rosenthal fired for criticism of Manfred
Technically, his contract ended and they didn't try to bring him back, so he really wasn't fired, but it just shows how ridiculous and petty MLB can be. It actually hurts the guys who remain because it gives the impression they are all owners/Manfred ass kissers. And the criticism was so mild no one ever made a big deal about it except for the powers that be.

I don't see tanking gong away. It isn't all about the draft pick, and it also isn't like owners lose their shirts not trying to win. Some actually make more money. They could do it where they have mini lotteries say 1-8. 9-16...and a formula could be developed where the ranking isn't by record only. You could add an element based on where a team's payroll is vs. where it had been the previous 5 seasons. If it's much lower, they move down. If it's higher, you move up. But until there is total revenue sharing, the Pirates, Marlins, A;s, are never going to be in for the big name free agents, and they are at a total disadvantage. Theo Epstein is no doubt a future HOF executive. But could you imagine if he ran the Pirates? He would just be a guy. He always had money to throw at his mistakes. He's probably has agreed to more bad money than any other executive during his time.

Jerry Reinsdorf, by all accounts is a bright guy. The last work stoppage cost him who knows how much, but as much or more than anyone in the game. The team had a spell after winning the WS where it was back to that level, but it was brief. They really have never been the same. Yet he was the lone guy to vote against Manfred believing he was too soft towards the union. Will history repeat itself?

The MLB lockout is lifted!
Not for 5 years. I think owners know replacements won't work, and the players aren't going to be able to start up another league even if the anti-trust exemption were removed. It would cost way too much money. Where are they going to play? This will be resolved one way or another before June, and the owners will win just like the rest of life where the people with more money usually win.
