  1. What changed? Tony LaRussa to plead guilty to lesser charge TaylorStSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk It certainly doesn't feel good to be a White Sox fan right now.
  2. You don't even watch the team, isn't that correct? So how would you know there are no legitimate gripes?
  3. For a guy who complains about bitching, almost every one of your posts is bitching.
  4. I wonder what is next for the people who thought there was a chance the Sox were involved. They probably think Ryan Pace, who when he had the 3rd pick in the draft and 2 fuure HOFers would have been available to chose from, decided to trade up and draft the 2020 version of Rex Grossman. Mike Glennon and Nick Foltz were a couple more. But now that he has a lower pick and no cap space, he will probably make a sound decision.
  5. Lucroy got into 1 game I think last year. I would be surprised if he made the team. But it doesn't hurt to bring him in. You need catchers at spring training.
  6. The Sox payroll is about league average. What more do people want? JR is down to his last billion. What more can you ask for?
  7. They have pictures and tweets from this scumbag. If he had any class he would just resign and try to be a better human.
  8. As good as this guy looked, he isn't Chris Sale. Chris Sale wasn't clutching his arm after 5 innings.
  9. The Athletic had a 2 part piece where they were asking agents all kinds of questions about front offices, like who is the toughest to negotiate with, who is the nicest, Hahn didn't rank in anything, but Getz got a couple of votes as a future GM. They did ask the Tony LaRussa hire question, and it was split down the middle with about half thinking it was good and half not so good, and it ranged from genius hire to total disaster.
  10. If 2021 Nelson Cruz is the same as 2020 Edwin Encarnacion, Hector will have been right again. It would have been good news. The guy is a hack.
  11. From the sounds of it, a lot of ladies don't like Callaway.
  12. If Folty is available for a minor league deal, there is a reason for that. He's been pretty bad. Now they say he was at 90-92 during his workout which would be in line with a normal guy who throws 96, considering the time of year. But you know he has been ramping it up. Obviously, it makes sense to sign him if a minor league deal is all it will take, but I wouldn't expect much.
  13. That article was from 2013. I think Andrew Berlin may no longer be a shareholder. He bailed out Ricketts' renovation overruns a few years ago and purchased a share of the Cubs. It will all come down to what Michael Reinsdorf wants to do. When my old co worker was doing business with him, he seemed pretty gung ho to take over some day and wanted to do some things different than his father. But he does run the Bulls very similarly. The other thing is JR has been buying up shares, so that has to cost a decent amount of money. For a guy who says baseball isn't a lucrative business, I wonder where he comes up with the scratch.
  14. He probably lives in FL near where the Braves trained.
  15. Yes he could. They spoke to some of the other shareholders. JR has total control. If everyone wanted to sell but JR, they wouldn't get sold. Also, if JR were to die, his executor gets the same power he has. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/whitesox/ct-xpm-2013-07-28-ct-spt-0728-white-sox-chicago-sports-20130728-story.html
  16. Jerry can make any decision he wants and there is nothing his investors can do other than try to sell their shares, which he would have to approve. He has total control.. He has made them a ton of money while getting all the perks of owning a MLB team for 40 years. Also, the White Sox BoD keeps shrinking as partners die. They do not get replaced. There was a story in the Tribune 6 or 7 years ago detailing this. My dad, who is a lawyer told me about this back in the early 80s, and he was totally accurate.
  17. It's not just the fanbase. Steve Stone didi him no favors .
  18. The Miami Heat are using Covid sniffing dogs checking their fans as the come in. Supposedly they have a 94% accuracy rate. This could be a game changer and get at least limited fans into parks fairly soon.
  19. If Portillos is right, Mathis wouldn’t be a bad option. He can’t hit at all, but he calls a great game and is a really good framer. Guys that hit like pitchers usually don’t have careers as long as his unless they are pitchers. If he makes the team, you can go with 3 catchers if you need to.
  20. I think he was talking about Rodon. Hamels was good in 2019. The problem is he had a shoulder issue in 2020, that still isn’t fully healed. And now he is 37. If everything went right, he could provide what the team needs, but he is going to cost more than Rodon.
  21. The good news is we know it’s there. Remember when he dominated the intrasquad game, and we were putting him in the HOF? He gets some command, he will be the best #4 starter in baseball, and could become an ace. He doesn’t, he is one of the most disappointing pitchers in White Sox history. He is still very young, and has a lot of time to figure it out. Rick Sutcliffe called him the best Cubs pitching prospect he had ever seen.
  22. They seemed to have a budget, and they were willing to pay Joc more than they paid Eaton. And they had to know what Hendriks would cost. His yearly average is pretty much right in line with all predictions.
