Sox resign Rodon 1 yr /3m official, Vargas DFA
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What I don’t understand about it is if they are operating on a tight budget and he was the best solution they had at $3 million, was it really with the risk non tendering him and losing that best solution over a million or a million and a half ? -

Pitchers are often a bit wild right after TJ. Rosenthal is a great example. I don't know if he can stay heathy. One thing I wonder about all these guys throwing showcases is they are probably way ahead of the normal pace they would be on to prepare for a season. So perhaps they will be ahead of the hitters early on. Also may run out of gas sooner. -
Hamels would have made $18 million last year. While he definitely will make significantly less, not significantly enough to fit in the budget. No way they sign him

I don't think there is or was anything wrong with Rodons attitude. He was just always hurt. -
One problem with Watson is while demanding a trade, he also has a no trade in his contract, so he can go where he wants. Would it be the Bears? Very doubtful. What the Bears would have to give up to get him would leave the team short, plus why would he want anything to do with the Bears. They didn’t even take him out to dinner the year he was drafted.

from the sounds of it Joc doesn't want to be platooned. If you're Rick Hahn, that should be a deal breaker.

JR's $20 million purchase of the White Sox was approved 40 years ago today.
-
I do wish him well. I always liked him, and liked his attitude. He was put in a very unfair position last year. Even if it's with the Cubs, I hope he can somehow turn things around.
-
As far as I know, Katz isn't a surgeon.
-
The article said one thing that appealed to Joc was that the Cubs weren't going to platoon him. I don't think the White Sox would go that far, and if they did, that would be stupid.

Nicky Two Strikes is going to have to show he can stay healthy for a long time even if he is a lot better than some people think, to get to 3000 hits. I like his confidence.
-
Starlin Castro is about to turn 31. He has over 1600 hits. He had a decent shot at 3000 but started really sucking and a Covid season probably ruined any chance.

I think it's all the same leak. And who knows how many people are actually these accounts and this board's insiders. It may be one or two people who know the same guy. -

I think they are trying to be more than what they are. I think they like the attention. Being an insider isn't all it is made out to be anyway. Many years ago, I worked with a guy who did some business with one of JR's sons. He told me one day the Sox were trying to acquire Tim Hudson from Oakland. I was so excited. So I posted it on this board. Maybe an hour later, Hudson gets traded to Atlanta, and I get slammed. -

Cheesey at one time insinuated JR wanted Cruz really bad. Again, I have no doubt these guys have a source, and that source provides them a little info. The problem is, they are trying to be Ken Rosenthal with their twitter instead of some guys who get infrequent info. -

Just click on what is imbedded, and look at all his tweets from last night. He went from Cruz and Wainwright, to hopefully a cheaper pitcher if that, and maybe some deadline help. -

Wow did Cheesy do an about face. Now it's the team that is there is the team they are going to ride with. What about all his other BS? -
You are absolutely correct, but previously KW did put out a shit product and blamed the fans for not spending money watching it, therefore hamstringing him into making it better. Their team is loaded. We just want it a little more loaded.
-
It might save the Twins some money, but ultimately it will also save JR some money if he let's the Twins know he won't be bidding against them.
-
Maybe something that would serve a purpose. But if they were about to sign Cruz feeding Bob this wouldn't benefit them at all, would make a writer/reporter who has had their back look like a fool. We all have an issue or 2 with JR, but shitting on loyal non fans is something he never does.
-
Bob stuck up for La Russa. The Sox aren't going to feed him this and then sign Cruz a week later. That is no way to treat a loyal soldier and JR is pretty loyal to his people. Cruz to theSox is dead.

I've been an apologist but changed my tune when he lost out on Machado. I said then and I will say now, JR had a good run but he doesn't have what it takes as an owner to win anymore. Heis too concerned with making money. He should take his money and sell both his teams. They may still win under his ownership but it will be in spite of him and not because of him. He might even be worse fot the Bulls. Yes he gave us Tony LaRussa but he gave Bulls fans Garpax, and Jimmy Boylen in appreciation of leading the NBA in attendance for many years post Jordan.

I am guessing Hector won't be retweeting this one.

On the bright side, the team should still be really good. I just wish they were aggressive. You trade 6 years of Dunning for 1 year of Lynn, you would think time is of the essence. Hendriks was an aggressive signing, but Eaton was a compromise, and who knows what else. I am really scared about the pitching.
