My wife who has asthma, had an appointment for March 6th. Her doctor called her this morning and asked her if she wanted a shot today. She is there now. I am so thrilled.

Probably because the station has been in cost cutting mode and spring games don't bring many viewers so it isn't worth the cost. Probably when Covid passes, they will show a lot more games when thei finances are back in order.

Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox
Dick Allen replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It means 30 teams wouldn't guarantee him money. If I think I am suddenly healed and back to my 27 year old self, I can think of more desirable places to show that than behind Grandal. I hope the guy is great but the odds are overwhelming he is a 0.0 WAR player. -

Lucroy is so great he commanded a minor league contract. -
How many teams in the NBA have a legit shot at a title every year? Way less than MLB. Same with the NFL. I think it is a shame a team like the Blackhawks built what could have been a dynasty with maybe 2 or 3 mor Stanley Cups, but had to trade players as they became more expensive because of a salary cap. MLB hasn’t had a repeat champion since 2000. Yes , there are some teams that will probably never win, but that is the case even in the hard cap sports.

But they rarely take advantage of their advantage. We are White Sox fans. Look at the advantage the White Sox should have over their division rivals, yet ownership plays down to their level. I know you don't find that noble. The Dodgers above their payroll which will cost them $14 million do also throw a lot into the revenue sharing pool. Winning a WS makes you some money. If they want to spend it on players more power to them.
-
So the Dodgers owners should be pocketing the money and not spending it trying to win.

So maybe we don’t need another reliable starter after all
Dick Allen replied to Sticky Stuff's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Look at what the Rays are doing. They are trying to get 7 or 8 guys to give them around 100 innings. Guys probably aren't going to go 200 innings in 2021. Everyone seems to know this but the White Sox -
Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox

Lucroy has a composite 0.1 fWAR the last 4 seasons. If you think his neck surgery is going to return him to his former self at age 34, I love your optimism, but don't share it. -
I think part of it is Jose had more protection. I know advanced guys say there is no such thing because it is very hard to quantify, but ask any pitcher or manager or catcher if it matters who is hitting next when a good hitter is up, and they will all give you the same answer. Couple that with the fact Jose doesn't really take his walks, surrounding him with good hitters is only going to help his numbers.

Andrew Benintendi traded to the Royals

On MLBN they compared AB to Darin Erstad. So he should be pretty attractive to KW in about 5 years. -
Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
Dick Allen replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He has an obligation to his union. Besides, the White Sox have a history of trading guys that signed team friendly extensions because they wanted to be White Sox. If he signs, it will be for a lot more than Sale and Q and Eloy and TA. -
Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
Dick Allen replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Giolito really doesn't have a lot of motivation to sign for some comfort. He is going to make good money until then, and he comes from a well off family who isn't sponging off him. A lot of guys come from nothing so they have a lot of responsibility to a lot of people, and have huge entourages If he signs an extension, it is not going to be of the team friendly variety. -

The difference in what Vaughn would make and the minimum is negligible. Considering rosters in September will be 28 and not 40, it's more than covered. -
NFL 2021 offseason thread

Yes, I sort of feel the same way. It's like every game is an exhibition. It just doesn't seem real. I watched the White Sox with glee, but the other teams, I was barely paying attention a lot more than usual. -

I think Fantasy Football hurts ratings. People go to bars to watch the games instead of staying home where they can watch multiple games at the same time. There are a couple of places by me, pre Covid, that were packed every Sunday. Then, the first weekend of the playoffs, Fantasy leagues are done, the bars have plenty of room. -
As long as the vaccines keep you from dying or being severely ill, everything should be back to around normal once enough get their shots.

What will be interesting is to see how teams reschedule games postponed due to weather and Covid. You would think they wouldn't want to schedule a DH and try to work off days late in the season for the better chance of more of a crowd. But at some point, especially if there is a team like the Cardinals last year, that has a Covid breakout, you are going to have to play the DHs even without fans.
-
Not a fan of 7 inning DHs or runner on second, but it does make sense during a pandemic. Once this is behind us, hopefully the rules are as well.

On paper better than 2020. On paper 1984 was better than 1983. 1991 was better than 1990. 2001 was better than 2000, 2006 was better than 2005. So nothing is given.

If the Bears pay a huge price for Wentz, it's George McCaskey's fault. 2 lame duck knuckleheads are desperate to save their jobs. Someone with some security would do the right thing. No security, you are throwing a Hail Mary. If it fails, the franchise will suffer from their decisions long after they are gone. -
The haves and have nots financially weren't that far separated, although Steinbrenner did spend some cash. But you had Oakland, KC in the West who were always good. The Angels and Twins who did have their runs the Sox, Seattle and Texas who tried to be the poor man's version of Steinbrenner. It probably wouldn't have made much of a difference, although I think the Sox had the 2nd best record in the AL in 1990 and would have made the playoffs if they were in the East. When teams really started to distance themselves financially, the 6 divisions were in play.

I tend to agree. Their window has closed. Get things lined up for the next window with someone else's vision or you are going to be looking at a pretty bleak decade of football. No one is going to trade this team the dominant QB it needs to have a shot right now. Giving Pace another shot at picking a QB is like the White Sox hiring Greg as the GM after he told them TA as a catcher made some sense.
-
Mahomes did kind of look like a Bears QB with back up tackles. And face it, Leno and whoever they throw in there on the right side aren't much more than back ups.
-
They could be. The 2020 White Sox in a 60 game season, used 9 starters. They are going to have to have some depth especially since every pitcher is increasing his work load.
