White Sox were expected to sign Juan Soto
Dick Allen replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One thing it shows is Paddy is on the guys who are mid level signers. Too bad they don't give him a full pool every year. -
It was a good thing for fans sitting above 1st base desperately seeking souvenirs. He let several fly over and around the Big Hurt and Paulie.

Yes, but the rebuild was necessary. Hemond got replaced because the farm system was so bad. Hawk was bad enough, it brought in Himes and Goldis which solved that problem. The 1985 team was decent, but their top 2 starters were Seaver, who didn’t want to be there anymore, and was about dome anyway, and Burns, who Hawk actually traded, and he never pitched again. They accounted for 450 innings in 1985. And Bob James, who was pretty great in 1985, lost it. They were going to be bad anyway. The Sox lost LaRussa. They actually played better under Fregosi. Acquired and lost Bonilla, in the long run it helped them. Other than that, they didn’t lose anything of value. Hawk did introduce the2 hitting coaches and 2 pitching coaches model, which is now being utilized by most teams. He had no top prospects he could have traded, so the position was child proof. Who knows what someone else would have done that year, but they were going to be bad, and be bad for a while, so at least it was a little interesting, as there seemed to be a trade or a signing of a recently waived past star, Carlton, Foster, plus coach and manager moves almost every week. I do think Hawk’s tenure got JR on the right track for a while. One near miss I read was Bo Jackson was drafted in the 4th round by KC when Hawk was the GM. Everyone assumed he would be a football only guy. Apparently the Sox were going to take him in round 5 if he was still on the board.

He should not have gotten the job, but that team was doomed and headed for a rebuild anyway. He did a couple nice things, acquiring Calderon and picking Bonilla in the rule 5. Of course he traded Bonilla back to the Pirates, but that actually might have helped in the long run as DeLeon eventually became the 1 Dog. And Bonilla being around might have prevented the Sox from drafting at least one of the four in a row they hit big on under Himes. Also, Hawk's tenure convinced ownership it was time to bite the bullet which set up the teams of the early nineties.

They did what GarPax could not do. Trade for a star, hire a real coach. Get rid of dissippointing high draft picks while they still had value. Welcome back to the NBA Chicago Bulls.

Loyola shot 17% but only down 8. You have to figure they will shoot a lot better in the 2nd half. -
It is asking a lot for a guy who hasn't played above A ball to debut in the major leagues at a new position. Hopefully they can somehow acquire a legit OF quickly, and move Vaughn back to DH/1B.

Vooch will wear 9. PWill switching to 44.

ELOY HURT! (3/25 Update: Torn Pectoral Tendon, Out 5-6 months))

Jon Jay is available. -
There is zero chance GarPax would have ever moved on from Wendell Carter Jr. in this deal. It would have taken a top 5 player in the league. Their firing is already paying off.

It is going to be tough for Hahn to fill this with a player of significance quickly, even if JR is kidnapped and money will be thrown at the problem. Hope springs eternal, and there aren't many worse looks than a salary dump right before the season starts. They can probably get a mediocre guy pretty easily, but if they want to offset Eloy's production within any reasonable level, it's going to be hard. -

Bring back Jose Canseco. He actually was pretty good as a Frank Thomas replacement in 2001. He's probably still juicing, so he can probably still hit. -

Good Bears news. Dick Stockton is retiring. We will never have to listen to him butcher a Bears game again. -

Some of LaRussa's LF with the Sox include Ralph Garr, Ron Kittle and Tom Paciorek, and of course Carlton Fisk. Throw Eloy with those guys, isn't it at least even money Vaughn can give you what they gave you defensively in LF? -

I have never seen anyone tear their pec hanging over the fence. Normally, that would classify it a fluke injury. But I don't think there is a fluke injury for Eloy. -
Hopefully Otto Porter can make his way to his physical without getting hurt.

Maybe it won't be that bad. If you remember 2005, Buehrle supposedly broke his foot, and was going to miss a lot of time. He wound up starting on Opening Day. -

This is the first time I have ever seen an injury like this on a play like that. Only Eloy. -
i just can't see paying him a ton of money. When he's healthy, he's a really nice player, but I don't think a winning one.

They can't trade their 2022 pick. If they had to give up a first rounded, it would have to be 2025 at the earliest.
-
Coby isn't a point guard. I still think he can be a bigger Ben Gordon. I never understood the Wendell Carter love anyone had. I know he was very young when drafted and obviously still is, he just seems like he is what he is to me.

If Lucroy makes the roster and Collins is sent down, they either need to trade Collins or have him change positions. There is nothing more he could have done to make the team. If they choose a replacement level at best vet over him, it's time to move on, either from behind the plate or the organization.
