  1. Bauer is the big splash and he only costs you money. Why can't the Sox ever sign the top guy? It's like they never even tried.
  2. Steamer predicts Lynn a 3.2 WAR pitcher with a 4.27 ERA. And Dunning a 2.4 WAR with a 4.54 ERA. Lynn's a good pitcher. I get that. But this is the White Sox settling. Bring in a name that isn't making a ton in leu of making the big splash.
  3. Yes, but they shouldn't have been at their ceiling in 2020. You would think the 2020 payroll had room for at least a couple of years of arb increases and an addition or two
  4. The team is in a position to make the other teams in the division know they are playing for second place for the forseeable future. It would be nice if this owner and front office showed some killer instinct, and paid back some of the people that helped their $20 million investment become a $2 billion business.
  5. Here is what is off the books from their not quite ready team: EE $12 million Colome $10.5 million Herrara $9 million Cishek $6 million Mazara $5.5 million McCann $5.4 million Gonzalez $5 million Rodon $4.5 million Looks like there should be room to add a lot of cash and not too many open roster spots, Yet JR is gonna JR.
  6. The issue is this trade was in lieu of spending money, the money we were all promised would be spent when the time came. Now, if they want to follow this up and announce they have signed Bauer, I apologize. But we know that isn't happening.
  7. This is for 2021. Every time the Sox trade for a guy in the last year of his contract it's "oh, he's going to sign an extension". David Wells didn't sign an extension. Bartolo Colon didn't sign an extension. Jeff Samarzidja didn't sign an extension. I would imagine Lance Lynn won't sign an extension. Even Paul Konerko didn't sign an extension. So it's 2021 or bust with Lynn, because if he pitches well enough you want to keep him around for 2022 and beyond, you know JR has other plans.
  8. He was starting to slip a little bit when the Sox traded him. The thought was his mind was messed up because he knew he was going somewhere, the team was bad... He is better than Gio Gonzalez. A lot better, but if the Sox signed him, I wouldn't give him too much.
  9. I just hope Lynn is better for the Sox than the last older fat pitcher who threw a lot of innings, they traded for, David Wells. The issue I have with this trade is Lynn is a one year guy. if he is good, and the Sox win, it's a good deal but,he will cost too much for JR. If he is good and the Sox don't win, it isn't a good deal. If he is bad, it's a bad deal. If he gets hurt, it's a bad deal. But sometimes you have to roll the dice.
  10. When I posed that question several years ago, the popular answer was not what you think. Of course those answering were frustrated Sox fans who had the one title. I don't know how many years Lynn has left. He has been solid. He too had TJS and missed 2016. At least the coaching staff in 2020 held Dunning in higher regard than Cease and Lopez, of course not much because as soon as he gave up a hit they had someone warming up. I think Dunning is going to be solid. Lynn has bee real good. He wasn't so good after the trade deadline last year. We will still. He's LaRussa's new Lamar Hoyt.
  11. Would be interesting if this guy wasn’t a phony.
  12. Of course. The Sox shouldn’t spend money on a DH.
  13. I think if the Sox signed Brantley, they would move Eloy to RF.
  14. Hahn had hinted Vaughn almost got the call in 2020. Unless they trade him which would be stupid, or he gets hurt, he is going to be in Chicago in 2021.
  15. He had the same career OPS+ as Willie Mays and Frank Thomas.
  16. It just seems to me Joc will be the most expensive of the group where it’s a crapshoot who will be better, which seems to me for a team that apparently needs to count its shekels, the wrong move.
  17. One thing I read today was that Bill Veeck tried to bring him back to play with the 1977 Southside Hit Men. But the offer wasn’t enough.
  18. I am not pissed they won't sign Springer. I think I have mentioned before I would rather they spend the money on pitching. But Passau seems to indicate the Sox won't be spending that kind of money which is really sad. We have sat through trash all the while being told when the time comes the money will be there. The time has come and it also is the time where if you are looking to spend you will rarely have less competition , yet the Sox appeared poised to make their same "going for it" additions they always make. Please JR show me I am wrong.
  19. Isn't David Dahl a better option? He will be cheaper than Joc plus he has 3 years of control, and like Joc, is coming off a bad year but the bat seemed pretty good prior and he is only 26.
  20. He was the coolest baseball player of all time. The only guy who looked cool wearing a helmet on defense.
  21. We were always led to believe that when this rebuild was over, the money would be there to sign the top guys. Here we go shopping the clearance aisle again.
