  1. The guy will be 35 in August, has averaged 21 starts a year the last 3 years. There really is no reason to have any interest especially if they aren’t adding a good player and they expect one back. Just move on. Let them be handcuffed. Continuing can only blow up in your face. No need to be Wiley Coyote again.
  2. I agree. Boylen probably shouldn’t have given him the satisfaction of knowing he heard him.
  3. Let them see who wants Price at $60 million. I would say no one. Then let them see about $50 million. Getting closer but still no great bargain. Taking money is doing the Sawks a great service, they only net what you take off Price’s contract but also their penalty. Treat him like the injured 34 year old he is.
  4. Or, hey the Sox signed Grandal and came in second for their pitching target, rejoice. Why? The White Sox are a mid market team playing in a major market. They are the reason they are a mid market team. That is how they operate. I have defended JR a lot, and have written this a lot recently, it’s time for JR to sell. Sell it to someone who will refuse to be a mid market team. Will make fans expect winning. Expect signing the best players, and make them relevant again. When is the last time the Cubs lost out on a guy even after offering the most money because he wanted to play by his future in laws.? We have accepted mediocrity long enough. It is time to stop operating like a mom and pop shop, and act like a major league team playing in a world class city that players love coming to. If JR cannot operate like that, his toy should be taken away.
  5. Robin Ventura, Jack McDowell, White Flag trade, Alex Fernandez, Ray Durham, Maggs Ordonez, Mark Buehrle, Chris Sale. They re signed Konerko but let him become a free agent. If the Sox don’t win the WS in 2005’ and he isn’t the ALCS MVP, and hits one of the biggest home runs in team history in that WS, he almost certainly makes the list. Who they take care of are the guys that sign team friendly extensions. Once they are beyond that, they generally become former White Sox. ironically it is my opinion that the trades that brought many of the candidates for team friendly extensions, are exactly what may be used against them in refusing the offer. You sign them because you like where you are and it sets you up in case of injury. But knowing you might wind up somewhere else you may not like while on this deal may turn the player off and make them think taking their chances with their health, performance, and arb, is the better route.
  6. While so,e of this is ridiculous, it is time for the White Sox to pick a lane. Are they going to be a team capable of providing near luxury tax payrolls? If not, sustainable success is probably not in the cards. If they are going to spend their money conservatively they need to hire personnel that can overcome the lack of money being spent. They go after Machado, but don’t make much of an effort for Rendon. They go after Wheeler, but are said to not be very aggressive for anyone else. Make up your mind. Either throw money at your problems or go after a Beane or the guy in Tampa who are used to limited payrolls. Give them a few extra dollars for the payroll. Not their assistants. Pay them to win occasionally, which is more than you can say for the current group.
  7. I was going to go with Perez as a White Sox target earlier this offseason as a case of they always get their man. They tried really hard to get him for Alex Rios back in the day. But he has been pretty bad so I thought this probably was a time where they moved on,
  8. I think Ray Ray is right. He's back to coaching softball. If he was a huge loss, another team would have scooped him up.
  9. When this first started, there was a bunch of 2019 is when the window will open posts. I remember when even optimistic Hawk was trying to temper expectations and said 2020 is when it was going to be great.
  10. Billy played when there was a 154 game schedule. Here are the Sox win totals when he was a member of the team: 68,60,84,81,89,91,91,85,90,82,94,87,86. They were under .500 his first 2 seasons and 11 seasons won more games than Rich Hahn has ever won playing 8 more.
  11. The thing that sucks about Rendon, is his contract fit perfectly with what the Sox were willing to give Machado, including when it expired. It doesn't appear they put much of an effort, if any effort, into Rendon. I really don't understand why.
  12. Palka 0.7 WAR Mazara 0.9 WAR That is just 2018. He has never hit more homers than Palka did, but has had better batting averages, better on base percentages, better OPS. And the guy is still 24.
  13. Might want to double check that. And who cares what you did in 2018?
  14. But the loophole in the rules got them Bregman instead of Aiken.
  15. It isn’t little cost. You are paying Price probably $50 million too much just for Benitendi. Then you get his arb. There is no bargain here at all. It’s an overpay. Sure he might rebound, but why take that chance. Why let them off the hook?
  16. Benitendi is a 2.0 WAR player. Why are so many so guns ho to pay up for Price for him?
  17. If something is close I am sure Rosenthal, Heyman, Passan,Morosi, Nightengale,Sherman, even Bruce Levine, at least one or two of them will have something. if the Red Sox are involved it is huge news. It isn’t going to be able to fly under the radar until completion.
  18. I think the White Sox need to be out of the business of taking the Padres has beens.
  19. When they first floated this trade and reading Hahns comments today, it made me wonder, if Benitendi was included maybe the BoSox wouldn’t mind having Mazara in LF.as part of the return.
  20. Olney mentioned they talked. Hahn referenced some possible trade. No insider that is being paid and is at the winter meetings has anything. But twitter is alive and saying it can go down at any minute. i think if you are buying that you are going to be waiting like Frank Castillo is still waiting for the White Sox press conference.
  21. The probably told JR Price is owed $96 million, and JR was fine until they said 3 years. Then they broke out the defibrillator, revived JR, and got scolded for thinking it.
  22. This type of thing you hear every year, especially if you go to Soxfest. The trade was being considered, it it went through it would have been huge, would have changed the franchise forever, but the other team backed out last minute after their ownership wouldn't sign off.
  23. I do know a couple of years ago he was right about everything.
