  1. The participation trophy case is going to have to be expanded at GRF this year. Although I am glad they didn't over do it for this guy.
  2. Pretty much as expected. The only part I thought was interesting was when Rick said some agents have a buy it now price. I was thinking it was too bad RAy Ray wasn't around to correct him. I did think Bruce's little nugget at the end with the quick signing was interesting, and I do agree it seemed like it was Ryu he was hinting at. Especially after they quizzed Hahn on Grandal perhaps endorsing Ryu and Hahn implying he had.
  3. It is more likely they win in 2021, but it is time to start trying.
  4. I don’t think driving prices up for other teams happens that much, if at all. Ultimately it would drive up prices for you.
  5. A solid effort though would be better than the usual pass.Their prices are going to be enormous and the big boys with money and as close to guaranteed playoff positions as you can get are interested. Second place is probably out of the question but I would take a 5th place over a did not bother.
  6. If Cole signed with the Angels today, futuresox would have had huge traffic all winter long. So considering he has futuresox editor in chief in his description, it is more than fair to link the two. If they are going to take all the glory if it is correct, they should also b prepared for some backlash if it is wrong. It is rare, but careers are made out of breaking a big story. David Kaplan was an out of a job assistant basketball coach, who Coppock used to let him on occasionally to talk about DePaul or the Illini. Then Kaplan had a scoop that Freider was leaving Michigan for AZ State. He called Coppock, Coppock told him if he was wrong he was done, but he went on when Coppock was talking with Doug Collins, then coaching the Bulls. Broke the story, Collins who at one time wa N AZ State assistant called BS, but the next day it happened, and love him or hate him (he is supposed to be a great guy), Kap has become a media star.
  7. 4.6 f WAR. Not 3. Plus he excites the fanbase. Generates more interest. It goes on and on. He was actually perfect for the White Sox situation.
  8. So spend it like they have been spending it. Really has worked out well. They did have that big 78 win season a few years ago.
  9. You are exhausting. The better the team the better the chance something like this doesn't happen. When did it happen to the Cubs or the Yankees or Red Sox? Machado supposedly wanted no part of the west coast due to family, but $50 million extra changed his mind . If the White Sox were a perennial contender and not a team whose best season was 78 wins the last several years things may be different.
  10. I would rather they spend it on good players than bad, and Harper would have improved revenues, and would have instantly taken the team out of irrelevance both nationally and in Chicago.
  11. Never said he was. You have very strange takes on a lot of posts. But if Harper was here and not there, the White Sox might look a bit better to players .
  12. It's one reason I was hoping for Machado or Harper last year. One less position to worry about and a ton of capital for fans and potential acquisitions. If Harper was the Sox RF and not in Philly, maybe it isn't so important for Wheeler to be near his in laws. Rendon and the 2 big pitchers do that this year, but it doesn't look like the Sox are interested. Even though they claim to have the money and think they are a destination.
  13. They aren't going to sign Rendon, but Moncada did tell Renteria he can play the OF.
  14. He's supposedly Kyle Schwarber in the field, so if they sign him and put him or Eloy in RF, God help Luis Robert.
  15. It is nice that deals are occurring . Hopefully it will mean an action packed winter meetings next week.
  16. He probably has Hahn read his letters to him now. Rick is probably not letting your good ideas get to him because it will make him look bad. I think you should try a different approach.
  17. I get that. But when your twitter has your position listed on the personal twitter, if the info is incorrect, you do open the door to a lot of bashing. Fair or not, people aren't going to separate the two. It wouldn't surprise me if this is correct though.
  18. I'm thinking if he hasn't given you an audience yet, it's probably a sign.
  19. Which was even more significant because his total contract was about half of Wheelers.
  20. Maybe not be he was who the White Sox determined to be the best fit and the best signing to lead to sustained success. So whoever they now get was not their first choice. They don’t appear to be even attempting the top 2. Maybe that changes, but Cole/Boras, I will believe JR dances with Boras when he actually does. Hopefully their 2nd or 3rd or 4th or whatever choice they actually sign turns out to be the best choice.
  21. Aren't you at least a little worried that supposedly offering the most money doesn't work either?
  22. I am sure , during negotiations, the agent would mention he prefers the east coast for family reasons if that is the case. Just like players get NTC to extract more money and guarantees if moved, there is a figure that would have made that mute. I don't know what it is. You don't know what it is, but there is a decent chance that over 5 years it's less than what they paid to Mannys friends last year alone . You either convert or you dont. I don't think it's a good look to be the high bidder and lose ourt, especially if the guy isn't going back to his previous team or going to his childhood dream team.
  23. Because the destination teams know how to close deals. Even if you offer the most money, if the player won't sign , you need to offer more if you want to sign him. The Cubs never offered the most money and got snubbed so the player could be by his future mother in law. If that is so important, it makes you wonder why Wheeler is living in Georgia.
  24. Never wrote that. But it is an odd excuse, however, even if the White Sox offer was technically higher, it was not a significant sum given the contracts total value. RH said the south side was now a destination. He obviously prefers Philadelphia, and I just mentioned it is possible that finances family might not be the real reason or only reason, but if it was. there are ways around it, especially if you are a destination like the team claims.
  25. Obviously the White Sox didn't think so. At least realistic ones. All I know is that these drawn out negotiations, granted these weren't as drawn out as years past, but still, a couple of weeks of daily rumors, the Sox are piss poor at conversion. When they convert, you hear nothing, then boom it's done.
