  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 01:55 PM) Chuck Garfien‏Verified account @ChuckGarfien Jose Abreu says he wants to steal more bases this season. Seriously. Uh, no way Jose. Unless it was a huge amount, not worth the injury risk.
  2. When will Trump say or do something about Russian meddling other than say he is supposedly cleared? I guess now is not the time.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 01:00 PM) If that's true then how does it explain his current status with the team? He's around, he can participate in practice but not 100% and can't play in a game. I feel like that theory made more sense when he wasn't around. Either way, it's so weird. It goes from he might be back soon to maybe it's possible to be career threatening. He was smoking crack, then it was heroin, then opioids, now just chronic cocaine abuse. He had the shortest rehab of all time with no league repercussions if any of it is true.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 01:30 PM) A few side effects of long term cocaine abuse: severe/unrelenting headaches, vertigo, extreme fatigue, and weight loss. They’re also signs of post concussion syndrome. Justin Moreau’s baseball career took a nosedive because of the issue.
  5. It’s a great time to get someone through, although I fail to see any reason why a team would claim Covey. Whether or not it leads to an immediate addition, who knows. Maybe there is a possibility of something and they want them to be good to go right away. As to last year, maybe they were close to bringing someone in but it didn’t work out, or maybe just making space whenever you can makes sense.
  6. So I was cooling off at the gym, and unfortunately Fox News was on the TV in the lounge. The first order of business was to mention why are people yelling about gun control before the bodies are in the ground. Then they showed the heartbreaking clip of the mother of the 14year old girl who was a victim of the massacre screaming for Trump to do something. The host actually said since when do we blame the president when bad things happen. I would like to know the super secret things Trump is doing. Amber we need t9 build giant walls around every school.
  7. Trump now claims he never said Russia didn’t meddle in the election. If so, other than refuse to enforse congress approved sanctions what did you do? Traitor. Also saying FBI too focused on Trump campaign as reason they missed on this. 17 teachers and teenagers gunned down and its all about Trump being a victim. Yes, He is correct, Russia is laughing their asses off, but not because of this investigation. It is because they succeeded, and Trump is President. Everyone who thinks what he is doing, what he is saying, how is is acting, is OK, would not feel the same way if Hillary or Obama were doing the exact same thing.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 17, 2018 -> 07:21 AM) Bulls need to sit all three for the rest of the year. I get the whole concept, and the way it is run now it makes sense, but something needs to be done with the draft in all sports to get teams away from losing as much as possible. Except in the NBA, most teams that make the playoffs have a legit shot at winning it all that year, and the teams do get an additional shot of revenue if they make the post season. Maybe make it a lottery for teams that don't make the playoffs, all with the exact same chance at #1 or #20, and line up the playoff teams after them in reverse record order. More and more teams have been tanking lately and I think that number is only going to grow. It makes for a lot of uninteresting games and seasons. Some will still tank, but maybe not as much.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 01:57 PM) Is there a way to see which politicians receive sizable donations from the NRA? I want to know how much guys like Paul Ryan & Marco Rubio get from them vs. other politicians. And how many times has Paul Ryan done the “now is not the time to discuss gun control” BS? Surely there has to be a video all the different times he’s spewed that garbage edited together. There’s got to be a way to hold these f***s accountable for the lives they’re partly responsible for taking. Marco Rubio has $3.3 million reasons why no gun law would ever stop what happened. Paul Ryan has received a ton from gun rights groups. You might get a kick out of this: https://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/paul-rya...r-1162885187935 And now I get a kick out of focusing on mental illness when they did this https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-tru...-mental-n727221
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 01:38 PM) Turns out this guy wasn't in a white supremacist group despite several corporate media companies spreading the same lie. I am sure the retractions (if any) will carry the same amount of attention as their initial attempt to use a tragedy to run a narrative. The 4chan user who duped them has also said he hasn't slept in a few days and Elvis was also in their White Supremacy group. I am not joking here either that's actually what he said. Quite a source for several corporate media companies So some wacko kills17 high school kids and teachers and what you get out of it is he was falsely identified as a white supremacist. Unreal. And where these organizations saying he was one or just reporting the Florida group claiming he was one of them?
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 12:40 PM) Kushner, who's been working under an "interim" security clearance for over a year now, has had to 'correct' his financial disclosure form yet again. It's really hard to believe this is allowed to happen this many times and for this long. Supposedly, there may even be more coming. Time for Jared to get fired and file for bankruptcy like his hero.
  12. I'm pretty sure Tatis never played a game in the White Sox organization, so he basically was a $825k bonus guy traded for a guy they wanted to be a 5th starter. It may blow up in their face, in fact, Shields already has, but if you dig deep, it isn't as bad initially as one would think.
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 11:32 AM) 100% agree. I think the talk of "mental health is the real problem" even at its most sincere is just so vague. And they kabashed a law that would prohibit gun sales to people with mental health issues, because Obama. I just wonder if thoughts and prayers, laws wouldn't have prevented this, let's not have knee jerk reactions, now is not the time would stop if this sort of thing actually hit a school where these morons have children or relatives enrolled.
  14. Mark Bogen, the vice mayor of Florida's Broward County, said Friday that President Donald Trump's expected visit with the victims of the Parkland school shooting is "absolutely absurd." "Him coming here is absolutely absurd, and he's a hypocrite," Bogen said of the President in an interview Friday with CNN's Fredricka Whitfield. "How can you come here and talk about how horrible it is when you support these laws?" Bogen argued that Trump is a hypocrite because he supports the purchasing of assault weapons, "and then comes down here and wants to act as though this is horrible, and this shouldn't happen, but goes back to Washington and supports it."
  15. The way the Tribune is hyping Darvish, you would think he makes the 2015 version of Jake Arrieta look like Dylan Covey.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 09:12 AM) There is a reason florida has some of the most lax gun laws in the country... It's a weird state. A bunch of gay guys getting slaughtered may not move the needle for some of those people, but kids are a different story. But then again, as Paul Ryan states, now is not the time for knee jerk reactions. We still have to let the Sandy Hook incident settle into our systems. Maybe when he is done with politics and collecting money from gun groups he could see it might be time. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has been arguing against what he calls a “knee-jerk” political response to mass shootings for years. Ryan has presented an almost identical speech again and again — and again. He repeated it Thursday after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killed 17. “We don’t just knee-jerk before we even have all of the facts and the data,” Ryan said in an interview with Indiana radio station WIBC “If that sounds familiar, it is because it is,” Hayes said. Roll tape. Ryan used the “knee-jerk” argument after the California mass shooting in San Bernardino in 2015 that claimed 14 lives, and after the shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Oregon the same year, which killed nine. One thing Ryan did express concern about is mental illness. Last year, Congress passed, and President Donald Trump signed into law, a measure that rescinded barriers to gun ownership for the mentally ill. Ryan received $177,000 in contributions from the National Rifle Association in the 2016 campaign cycle.
  17. Little Marco said yesterday stricter gun laws wouldn't have stopped this massacre. I really don't know how he can say that. Maybe it wouldn't, but to totally dismiss it is his NRA donations talking. I hope voters do something about him. These Florida shootings may be hitting close enough to home for them to realize what this dope is about.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 06:44 PM) Hand guns kill many more people than the AR-15. As I said in another post they are lucky he chose that weapon there are many more powerful semi-automatic weapons than that. The lawmakers will not do anything against semi-automatic weapons. They should focus more on keeping any legal weapons out of hands of people who shouldn't have them. Mass shootings happen more in America than in all other countries combined. The US has 4.4 % of the world population and 42% of the worlds guns. You can say that isn't a problem, but I thin the evidence is showing it is.
  19. QUOTE (jerm13 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 06:31 PM) I'm going to be flying to Chicago in September and will be going to my first White Sox home game. Which side would be best to sit in terms of avoiding any direct sunlight? thanks. First base side
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 06:04 PM) It sounds like it's a state problem not a national one. There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning a semi-automatic rifle. the weapon isn't the problem, it's how a kid with this many issues was allowed to purchase it. Being a former student and wearing a school ROTC uniform, there was no way any reasonable security would have kept him out of the school. I am pretty sure anyone who does something like this has some mental issues. I have no idea why AR15s are necessary weapons for civilians.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 05:49 PM) Gonna go out on a limb and say no meaningful or substantial change happens. As Paul Ryan so eloquently stated today, now is not the time to discuss it. Now is the time to count our blessings. I guess NRA donations are blessings.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:10 AM) Trump tweets this morning to blame the victims and the community for not reporting the shooter. Turns out he had been reported to Trump's FBI back in September. Trumps tweets today vs. One of Trump’s first actions in the White House was to quash former President Barack Obama’s recommendation for a new regulation that would prevent people with severe mental health illnesses from purchasing guns. Might not have stopped today, but might have. Pick a lane Orange one.
  23. $300 million doesn't get you what it used to. Here is the Cavs payroll next year if they keep their current roster together. I think it would be an interesting discussion whether the Cavs owner owed it to the fans to take this big of a hit. I'd probably go with if they won a title, yes. If, not, even if it means Lebron flees, no. : 2018-19 Cavaliers Payroll + Tax Projection PLAYER SALARY LeBron James $35,607,968 Kevin Love $24,119,025 George Hill $19,000,000 Tristan Thompson $17,469,565 JR Smith $14,720,000 Jordan Clarkson $12,500,000 Rodney Hood $12,000,000* Kyle Korver $7,560,000 Cedi Osman $2,775,000 Larry Nance Jr. $2,272,391 Ante Zizic $1,952,760 First-round pick - BKN $4,403,280 Free agent: minimum $1,499,698 Free agent: minimum $1,499,698 Free agent: minimum $1,499,698 Salaries $158.9 million Luxury tax $149.2 million Total $308.1 million
  24. Priebus is writing a book. He has a passage about Trump's inauguration crowd, and Donald thought many people were at the gates trying to get in, but it wasn't being reported. Also, Kellyanne's line to calm him down when he gets upset about what he thinks is a slight, "you're big, this is small". I wonder if she has a license for daycare.
  25. God bless this girl Lyliah Skinner, a 16-year-old student who survived the Florida school shooting, said she wants to see lawmakers take action — and to stop offering thoughts and prayers. "As our legislators and leaders, they shouldn't be offering prayers and words, because those mean nothing. We need action, because action is going to change what's happening," she said. She said the US needs stricter gun laws and questioned teenagers' access to guns “I would ask them if kids aren't even allowed to have their first, if they're not able to purchase their first drink with alcohol, then how are we allowed to buy guns at the age of 18 on 19?"
