QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 03:21 PM) I think Rock nailed it: the dude seems like a huge asshole. His tantrums are ridiculous. Some coaches get ripped for not having tantrums. He's a bit intense, but he's a good guy. Not only that but he's like, really smart. He went to Wharton you know. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 12:10 AM) Lol - complete and utter nonsense! What the devil are you talking about now! Rooney never said any such thing of the sort. Rooney began his career with the Sox in 1988 (on the television side, succeeding Don Drysdale before giving way to Gary Thorne on the TV side in 1989), and he only presided over Redus’ final 77 games with the Sox before Redus was traded to the Pirates that year for...the mighty Mike Diaz! Remember Diaz’? No? There’s a reason for that - he was terrible! Diaz’ career didn’t last past the ‘88 season, for crying out loud. Look at Diaz’ career stats. Does he look like a guy for whom a player better than Rickey Henderson IN HIS PRIME would be traded for? Of course not! Which is why the amazingly astute John Rooney would have never said such an absurd thing as asserted by Our Very Own Dick Allen here. It never happened! Rooney may have favorably compared Redus’ skill set to that of Henderson, but he never came close to suggesting Redus was better than Henderson. Dick, unless you have video/audio to prove otherwise, strongly suggest you back off of this obvious misstatement of yours that the great John Rooney made any suggestion EVER that Gary Redus was better than one of the greatest players of all time in Rickey Henderson. Very much a disservice to Rooney’s great career on the South Side. you can strongly suggest anything you want. I heard it with my own two ears. He said it. -
Why does he need $25 billion? The wall is probably $8 billion, which is a tiny fraction of the money that we lose with Mexico. We lose a tremendous amount of trade deficits. We have a trade deficit with Mexico that is astronomical, much bigger than that. We will get -- and I say it also is also part of my plan -- Mexico is going to pay for the wall," he said.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 12:07 PM) I've got liberal friends who gobble his s*** up, I try to talk sense into them but it's like talking to Hannity/Fox personalities, reason won't prevail. I watch his show. I don't agree with everything, but he does have some interesting guests. I didn't agree with the Trump book author insinuating a Trump/Nikki Haley affair. If he didn't want to actually put it in his book, his hint wasn't necessary. But that one wasn't on Maher. He had another guy on who made an interesting point about the republicans who say the Russians interfered for Hillary. His point being, if they really thought that, wouldn't they want to sanction the s*** out of them instead of the exact opposite?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 11:45 AM) ESPN had a fake trade idea between the Cavs and the Bulls: Bulls give up Mirotic and Lopez Cavs give up Love, Shumpert and the Nets pick. It's actually a compelling trade idea for both teams. Cavs would get out of Love's expensive contract (50 million over the next 2 seasons). Lopez gives them a decent rim protector. Niko obviously gives them more shooting. The Bulls get a good player in Love, a bench guy in Shumpert they can drop after next year and another lottery pick. This will never happen because Love is the fall back franchise player when Lebron leaves and that Nets pick is overvalued, but it's an idea. It's a no brainer for the Bulls. I don't know why Cleveland makes this deal. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 11:25 AM) Anything can happen playing head to head. True, but you aren't going to have 3 near 100 loss teams in the same division. Maybe they will all cancel each other out and be better record-wise than anticipated, but at least one of these teams is going to have a surprisingly good record IMO and not because of talent level.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 11:21 AM) Again, would not be shocked if the Sox lost more this year than last year. Not having guys like Q, Frazier, Melky and company for the first three/four months of the season is going to be a blow to this group. No question, but Detroit and KC are awful, and they play a lot of games against them.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 09:07 AM) lol that is a long ass grudge No grudge, but it was a most ridiculous statement. He does do some college basketball games for anyone who needs a Rooney fix. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 08:37 AM) He's a very smart person, who clearly has a good grasp on the science behind it. The ice caps are setting records . He can't be this dumb. He knows whatever he says, the followers in his cult will buy it.

John Rooney is OK, but he lost me in the 80s when he argued Gary Redus was better than Rickey Henderson. -
Here's Bill Maher's list Colin Kaepernick, LaVar Ball, Barack Obama, Eric Holder, “the war widow from the failed raid in Niger” and “the war widow’s congresswoman,” the Central Park Five, Steph Curry, “the UCLA basketball players arrested in China,” Whoopi Goldberg, April Ryan, “the entire NFL,” the cast of Hamilton, the cities of Atlanta and Chicago, Nigeria, Haiti, “and the entire continent of Africa.” Now add Jay Z.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 02:31 PM) Obvs because Trump is racist sexist xenophobic and antigay. He clearly loves picking fights with black people often telling them they should be grateful. I am not saying he doesn't pick fights with white people, but a large proportion of his feuds are with people of color.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 07:25 AM) I met and talked with Ed Farmer at Soxfest yesterday. He has had serious health problems. I can't help but wonder how much longer he's going to be working. He actually had to have someone helping him walk off the stage at the seminar he was at. This getting old is no fun. I hope he is doing OK, and the issue is just getting off the stage. He is really knock kneed. I wonder if that is why he required assistance. I would think if he was in really rough shape he would have stayed home in Cali.

Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS

QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 06:14 AM) Merlin Media, the company that actually owns WLUP and WKQX, has indicated that it will operate the stations after Cumulus gets approval from the bankruptcy judge to back out of the arrangement. My guess is that the Bulls and White Sox may be talking to Randy Michaels (the man in charge of Merlin Media). I may be totally wrong, but I don't see many possibilities for the Bulls & Sox to land on any other big music-orientend FM station in Chicago. Perhaps the Bulls could go to the new Rap Oldies station owned by Entercom (formerly CBS), '104.3 Jams' WBMX (formerly Classic Hits 'K-Hits' WJMK). http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-...0119-story.html . 105.9 is my guess. -

QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jan 27, 2018 -> 11:02 PM) My guess is that could be 97.9 WLUP 'The Loop'. Most major market FM music stations that are owned by big broadcasting corporations and subscribe to Arbitron (or whatever the ratings service is named now nowadays), are not going to pre-empt nonstop music formats for any sports play-by-play. But Randy Michaels, the man in charge of Merlin Media, the company that is about to regain ownership and control of WLUP and WKQX, is known to think outside the box. He supports non-music, spoken word programming on FM. I remember that some Stanley Cup hockey playoffs, also football aired a couple years ago on WLUP and All News WIQI (now WKQX) when Randy Michaels was in charge. I'm located north of Lake Cook Road, right in the center of Lake County (Illinois), and WLS comes in just fine using a $20 radio. I listened to 5 hours of the Soxfest live broadcast today (from 10 AM to 3 PM), with no problems. Plus, I'm sure if I drive anywhere in the suburbs west Interstate 355 (which runs from Itasca to New Lenox), I could easily hear WLS in my car. Perhaps your reception problem is because you are located in McHenry County, which is quite a distance from the WLS transmitter at Tinley Park. Also, if you have a cell phone charger in your vehicle, don't plug it in while listening to AM. There are high performance AM radios made by C. Crane which will solve everything for you when listening indoors, but that doesn't help your reception problem in your car. Well then the Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls are "complete jokes" too because those teams do not air on Sports Talk stations either. Chicago Bears - WBBM / WCFS-FM (format: All News), Chicago Blackhawks - WGN (format: Talk), Chicago Bulls - WLS (format: Talk). . Cumulus is also backing out of its purchase of the Loop so I doubt it is them. -
Larry Nassar sentenced to 40-175 years in prison

I saw the story on ESPN at the gym. I have just lost a ton of respect for both coaches. However scummy you think Steve Alford was with The Pierre Pierce situation, this is that times about 50. -
Greg, keep on watching Hannity on Thursday said, “The New York Times is trying to distract you,” referring to its report that day that Trump last summer directed White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mueller, but backed down when the lawyer threatened to resign. "Our sources, and I've checked in with many of them, they're not confirming that tonight," Hannity said on his program. "And the president's attorney dismissed the story and says 'nope, no comment, we're not going there tonight.'" But near the end of the segment, Hannity made an about face. “All right, so we have sources tonight just confirming to Ed Henry that, maybe, yeah, Donald Trump wanted to fire the special counsel for conflict. Does he not have the right to raise those questions?" Hannity said.

Guaranteed Rate Field extending Netting to end of dugout
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It is for the best. I have flip flopped on this. It is too dangerous now. Even if you are paying full attention to the game , you could be in a tough spot. These days people pay far less attention. Looking at their phone, taking pictures....not only at games but everywhere. Maybe someday someone will come up with some netting you can barely tell is there when you look through it. But the time has come. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 09:35 PM) Was switching channels and one of the cable networks had a host yapping about how Trump is not getting the credit for the surge in the economy. Said if this was a Democrat everybody would be celebrating in the streets over the economy. Go find yourself a chart. You may be in for a shock. Did you notice how much the economy improved under The democrat? Probably not, considering what cable and radio show you frequent. Trump uses the unemployment numbers now. Candidate Trump said they were phony numbers. There is an article you can google that tracks Trumps tweets about the stock market. When Obama was in office, bubble, bubble, going to crash. His first tweet about it while he was in office, bubble gone up all because of Trump.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 10:30 PM) So, just to make sure, you do realize that in a few months the next one, or the one after that, or the one after that, or the one after that, will be a big Democrat right? That's the world we've lived in. That's the world we need to clean up. OK, thanks.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 10:47 AM) He gave the same type of contract to Ferentz. Frankly though, i'm not sure why people are complaining. Both guys are good coaches. Ferentz has fallen the last few years, but for a while there he had Iowa football at or near its best in the program's history. McCaffrey had a good run just a couple of years ago. The timing is bad, but supposedly this was agreed upon last summer, but Barta had some health issues, prostate cancer or something, and they just signed it. It looks bad because the team isn't doing well, but they do have some players coming and are in good shape. His buyout still is significantly less than many Big Ten coaches.
