  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) This seems like its pretty much anecdotal evidence. I am curious as to what the real numbers on season ticket holders dropping out are. I've heard that its been more than ever but no real numbers. Do the Bears make that information public? The season ticket waiting list only moves 200-300 every year, maybe that will change. I have read the one thing that has really push the NFL's popularity, fantasty football, is one thing that is starting to really hurt their ticket sales, as more and more people would rather go to a bar and watch several games at once.
  2. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) There is no one else? There's not any minor leaguer in our system who deserves even just a cup of coffee at DH to see if he can hit home runs? No one any more than Asche. Asche sucks. No one is debating that, I paid money to watch Asche play, I'm not so happy about that, but so would just about every other in house option unless you want to rush someone for no reason at all.
  3. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) I think you are missing the point here. I have no problem losing; I have a problem not getting quality development FOR that losing. Asche has dead end written all over him, mainly due to his # of years of ML experience. He has a pretty long track record at this level already. But there is no one else. You don't want them to rush guys. You get this kind of crap. Maybe, somehow, one of these guys works out. Probably not, but that is rebuilding. For a team that made it a point to have most of their coaching staff, if not all, former instructors, there is very little young talent on the major league roster. Covey and Rodon is about it pitching-wise, and I don't think anyone thinks he's a core piece moving forward. Anderson is. May, Sanchez, Davidson, Asche, the Garcias, probably even Narvaez...these are guys they are hoping against hope somehow find something realizing most likely no. Fraizer, Robertson, Q, Jones, Gonzalez, Shields, Holland, Soto maybe even Abreu, but I tend to doubt it, trade bait. Rodon is a keeper, but really not many on the roster. They seem to like Saladino. So of the current roster, I think if you had RH and KW drunk telling you the truth they would say Rodon, Anderson and probably Saladino and Abreu are the guys currently on the roster they think will be on the team when they believe they are a contender. Anyone else is gravy. Everyone else, just filling in and hoping or trying to get them to play well so they can be dealt to the highest bidder.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) The Cubs tampered with him as to the status of his contract in order to try to get him to opt out. No more so than anyone else who opts out of a contract. They tend to know they are going to be doing a lot better.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Epstein went over slot amounts in the draft for years but teams weren't technically penalized for doing so. In this case, I believe it's a lot different. That wasn't against the rules.
  6. How the hell do they assign you a seat if you are the one going to be kicked off an overbooked flight? Why wouldn't it be the last ones to check in?
  7. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) Asche had a hit yesterday and has hit some balls hard. I am more concerned about May, who looks over matched, clueless, and weak at the plate. May had a .660 OPS in AAA last year. Davidson, Sanchez, Leury Garcia, blow that away, and they can't hit. People fall for spring training stats way too easily.
  8. Whatever happened to just increasing the amount of the travel voucher until you had enough volunteers? My wife and I bailed on coming home for a day once for $1,000 each on American. Of course it cost a little bit for the extra day, but it was well worth it.
  9. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Theo made a living by bending the rules. Do what you have to do. How so?
  10. If Asche or Davidson turn useful, the White Sox have bucked the odds. Might as well give them both an opportunity. I really don't see where one is clearly better than the other.
  11. For a fanbase that complains when the White Sox try to win, want them to do nothing but lose, they sure do complain a lot about s***ty players. You want the Sox to lose, don't complain Asche is in the line up. He gets them where you want them to be.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) The people who are in on the "campaign" have mentioned the fact it's more of the idea of getting a high pick than actually getting Seth Beer. I'm not sure why the people who don't want to tank have to come in here and s*** all over the idea. You're obviously entitled to your opinion but so are the people who want to lose to get a higher pick. I disagree. There have been a lot of excuses about Beer's performance this season in this thread. He hasn't looked like a guy you lose all your games to draft. They are going to get a high pick. I don't think anyone really thinks they won't.
  13. A guy that had these college numbers went 7th: .359/.457/.718 .385/.509/.648 .403/.568/.807 The Big Hurt
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) They likely aren't scouting individual players, he was probably on a tournament (14 is freshman year) and they started scouting. The MLB draft includes high school players, so not sure why anyone is incredulous at white sox having scouting reports on them. If a player could be good enough to be top ten rounds out of high school, the scouts probably ran into them early in their careers. That doesn't mean they went to specifically scout that one player. Beer was 19 when he went to college skipping his senior year final semester. He was in 7th or 8th grade as a 14 year old.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) I read somewhere that the Sox have been scouting Beer since has was 14 years old. How high will he be drafted? I really don't know. I do know that the Sox should and would consider him if he's still on the board at their pick in the 2018 draft. If they are scouting 14 year olds, no wonder they have drafted so poorly. It's a total waste of scouting resources. He was in 7th grade. Why scout guys 5 to 7 years away from being drafted? So much changes. Your scouting report as a 14 year old becomes totally irrelevant.
  16. College OPS is usually a lot higher than MLB. I don't think Beer is top 100 in either slugging pct. or on base. Basically, if he were having the year he is having this year last season, he would never be mentioned on this board, especially considering he is not really going to be much of a plus defender.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Nothing wrong with looking ahead since Soto, Frazier, MiGo, Holland and Melky are free agents after this season. Seeing what kind of offers the Sox can get for Q, Robertson and Jones just makes sense for a rebuilding team. I don't think it would be news that that is the plan. Hahn has made no secret of that.
  18. 5 games in, wholesale changes on a rebuild. You guys will need rubber rooms a couple of years from now.
  19. Avi is about 6 months older than Jacob May and Adam Engel, about a year and a half older than Charlie Tilson. I don't think anyone, even the White Sox , really believe Avi will somehow turn it around, but he shows you from time to time it is there. Whether that means he beats the odds and overcomes his previous performance no one knows. Maybe he is Jose Bautista, a guy who was below replacement level until he was 29 and with his 5th team. Now is the perfect time to find out.
  20. I was at the game and where they play Maurer is incredible. If he hit one into the RF corner, he would have an easy triple. Avi was at least 120 feet off the line maybe 150 feet. May was in LC. Maurer hit one pretty much right at him where had they been playing straight up probably is a double unless the traded for Buxton.
  21. Why would anyone be b****ing about Avi now? Yes, he will probably go back to what he was, but he is showing everyone right now why they keep him around. His talent is immense.
  22. Whatever happened to the quick defeat of ISIS? Maybe Jared hasn't had time to get around to that.
  23. Conversation Donald J. Trump‏ @realDonaldTrump The President must get Congressional approval before attacking Syria-big mistake if he does not! 6:02 PM · Aug 30, 2013 Just about everything he has criticized Obama about, he has been guilty of in less than 100 days. Trump is a joke. What would Trump be tweeting at 3 AM if Hillary dropped some missiles on an airbase and forgot to hit the runways?
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 07:36 PM) Has Holland always thrown 94? I thought he was a 90/91 guy I don't know, but I did hear they were taking readings differently this season and it should result in higher velocity readings.
  25. It is weird he did pretty much what Hillary said had to be done only hours earlier, although it wasn't executed as well as hoped. I would think when firing missles at an air base, doing at least some damage to the runways would be a priority.
