QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) We don't "know" that he can play 2B yet either. By all returns he has been pretty awful there this spring. Yeah, 21 year olds making errors the first couple of weeks of spring training means it's time to change positions. The sample size used to show he needs to be moved is microscopic. If you want a rebuild, you better be prepared not only for busts, but for a lot of growing pains with the guys who ultimately won't fail. There is a reason he's at 2B. Taking anything away from performance so far this spring is so funny. But people fall for it every year. Didn't Q have about a 10.00 ERA either last spring or the spring before? Didn't the White Sox lead the world in HRs last spring? How did that work out?
-
What I don't understand is if you think he can be a great OF without ever seeing him play there 1 inning, why couldn't you think he could use these same tools and become a great 2B? It's not like he's 27 years old with 8 years of play under his belt. Maybe, ultimately he winds up in the OF. But right now, why not see if he can improve in the infield?

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) If the Sox were serious about winning and rewarding their fans for sitting through a rebuild, they'd sign Machado if things fall into place like they should. When he signs, he probably will get the biggest or second biggest contract of all time, and there will be 29 owners that don't give a s*** about their fans. It would be nice, the reality is it's a real long shot.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) It absolutely can be done. Craig Biggio did it after being a catcher. Yes, Robin Yount moved to CF later in his career . Chet Lemon was a 3B originally. But it depends. Moncada has a ton of tools, but we have no idea what his instincts would be. He could take an Avi Garcia path to the ball. To say it was a slam dunk he could handle it is as wrong as saying he's 21 and it's too late for him to learn. But the great OFs, they have something that cannot be taught. It almost seems as if they are moving before the ball is hit. There are guys with a little bit better than average speed that cover a lot more ground than some who can really fly.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
Dick Allen replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (peppers312 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) if the Yanks aren't giving up Sanchez and/or Torres as one of the pieces why are we talking to them again? is their farm system THAT loaded with other prospects the Sox would be interested in acquiring? I have no idea how the Sox rank the Yankees system, but I sort of agree with you. All we hear is so and so isn't on the table for Q. OK, Q isn't on the table for your team. It's not only their top prospect, but it seems with a couple of teams 2 or 3 prospects are supposedly untouchable. They can f*** off. -
Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) Scott MerkinVerified account @scottmerkin 8m8 minutes ago White Sox optioned RHP Chris Beck, RHP Tyler Danish, OF Willy Garcia, RHP Brad Goldberg and LHP Giovanni Soto to Triple-A Charlotte.... White Sox optioned C Alfredo Gonzalez to Double-A Birmingham. Reassigned LHP Aaron Bummer and RHP Blake Smith to Minor League camp. Bummer. -
I bet Trump's own team leaked his return.
-
If you are freaking out about Giolito's velocity during a spring game on March 13th, good luck making it through the next 2 or 3 years.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Taking it to new heights in both the kind of lie and the frequency. Its not normal. Yes, there are some things they have to lie about, but Trump lies about everything and anything, and his underlings defend it with more lies. Despite saying Obama tapped his phones at Trump Tower calling him a sick and/or bad guy, he really didn't mean Obama had his phones wiretapped. The lie is one thing. The spin is what makes it even worse. Accusing the former President of breaking the law should be serious stuff. Trump thinks it's like reality TV. Just lie for the pub and the sympathy. I'm sure some on the right will defend him making up wire taps, but they aren't dealing in reality. He also said everyone would have better and cheaper health care. I'd love to see how he would do on Maury. He might be so messed up he doesn't think he's lying.

So Kellyanne started talking about spying microwaves, when questioned she went to Obamacare. Why do networks continue to put her on the air? Just say no thanks when she is offered. She will be defeated, get fired, and may start making sense after that. She used to have the exact same questions about Trump most of us would like answered truthfully.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) According to the earlier post there's a good reason for it. Everyone ran from the Bears like they are the plague (kind of accurate too) Nothing throwing a bit more money at them wouldn't fix. Their offers for the top guys were lacking so they had to pull a Krause and sign Ron Mercer. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) Hoiberg's rotations (lack thereof and overall inconsistency), haven't exactly put guys in positions to succeed. That said, they may all suck so it might have never mattered. There was a play yesterday where Valentine through a good pass into Felicio and it was like he didn't even know what to do (and completely botched what was a wide-open lay up). Jerian Grant flat out can't pass, yet we play him at PG. I have no idea why we are enamored with him...I don't want a PG who can't pass (unless they are an electric scorer). Having a PG who can't pass, isn't great defensively, and isn't a great offensive player is worthless. We have accumulated a bunch of worthless PG's. Cam Payne can't pass or shoot. Even Hubie Brown questioned his ability to be a point guard. All their point guards suck. Rondo might be the best one. How Gar was gushing over Payne, that should be enough to tell you he isn't an NBA level talent evaluator. He probably could pick a good team at the Y. What was the goal here? Vince Goodwill, who is about as good as it gets as a beat guy even though he is a big Pistons fans, was saying when they traded Taj, things were going to go south that he was the true leader of the team. So if their goal was to fall short and get a lottery pick, then what they did was fine. But Cam Payne sucks. He looks like an 8th grader launching up shots. If the goal was to still make the playoffs, yet more proof that everyone in the world except his bosses knows Gar has no business doing what he is doing. The problem is they can't shoot 3's at all. That isn't going to work in today's game. Butler's heel is still bothering him, so that doesn't help. I also am sick of hearing about their offensive rebounding. Of course they lead the league or are near the top. No team misses more shots.

"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) You are suggesting the TV rights wouldn't change if there was an actual team in Las Vegas? Vegas gets claimed by other markets because there is no team here. I'm not sure how one can appropriately value a Vegas baseball television market without the presence of an actual team? Nor would I suspect that the fact that other teams claim it as a market shows any pertinent information on value to that effect. Washington didn't have a team. I think they are still battling it out with the Orioles. Teams don't give up their territories very easily. -

The White Sox have a rather long lease and make money every season. There are several other teams that cannot say the same thing. Every 6 months we get the Sox moving posts. They aren't leaving. Put it to rest. -

Alshon got $8.75 million guaranteed, $750k workout bonus, and $4.5 million in incentives. There is no way the Bears shouldn't have beaten that. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Different approach from his father or different approach from how he runs the Bulls? Would you mind elaborating? He would be a little more aggressive. Maybe running the Bulls has changed him, but he is still under his dad, and once that goes and he is truly on his own, from what I have been told in the past, it would be a little different. -
So ABC has the big GS/SA matchup tonight. Leonard is out for SA with a concussion. Besides KD being down, Kerr is resting, Curry, Thompson, Green, and Iggy. Not exactly what ABC was hoping for.

"Thank you for your support in 2016," Phillips wrote. "It was a challenging and disappointing season. One we will not repeat." "We are positioned for an exciting offseason with the third overall pick in the draft and one of best salary-cap situations in the NFL heading into free agency," Phillips wrote. "We will take advantage of these assets to bring in more talent." Alrighty then. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Thank the love of god. I don't want Reinsdorf's kids anywhere near this team after seeing how Michael operates the Bulls. I can assure you that as of a few years ago, Lip's info is incorrect. Michael Reinsdorf wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps with the White Sox. And if JR did die, he would be running things until he didn't want to. Maybe he will think his plate is full with the Bulls. I do know he would have at least slightly different approach if he ran the White Sox. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) "The perception within the game is Reinsdorf will step back as owner at some point soon, either handing off to his children or selling." Before you start your celebration, they say that about every owner who is his age. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) The kid is years away, and it fits the typical pattern of handling the White Sox have always have used. Even though they are years away, they bring their top kids to camp just to give their kids a taste. A lot of teams don't do that. And they can still put him in a game.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) Worse case scenario involved franchising Alshon and having him spend half the season on the bench. That's what Alshon does. 3 of the last 4 seasons he suited up and played every game he was eligible to play. The other year he played in 9 games , over half, and overpaying him for one year only hurts the McCaskeys bank account. There is a ton of room under the cap, and the Bears make around $100 million in profit according to Forbes every season, so it isn't like that $16 million would need to be saved for a rainy day. It might be used to buy Michael McCaskey a giant sailboat or something, or eventually help pay a tax bill when Virginia dies, but if they don't spend it now, it won't be spent on football players.
