QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) If Lopez ends up being a 3+ WAR starter, that alone would be a win for us. If you believe our realistic competive window is from 2020 to 2024, then Eaton would have only fit in for two of those years and likely would have been a declining speed-based player by that point. Lopez would be part of our core for at least four of those years and be in his prime. This is why it made sense to move Eaton despite his five years of control, as two and likely three of them would be wasted on a rebuilding club. Having said all that, I'd personally be dissapointed if that's all we got out of an Eaton trade. You are assuming several things. One that Eaton's decline will be swift and sharp, and that over the next several years and even last winter, the package the White Sox received for Adam Eaton couldn't have been topped. Prospects break your heart. If Giolito is a bust, and if anyone bases his bust potential on spring training, that is really something, this trade should not have been made. And if anyone thinks Lopez is a future star based on spring training, that is insane too. For it to be a good trade IMO at least 2 of them have to be good. In August we all might decide this trade was awesome or awful, and even then may still be way off. projecting pitchers 4 and 5 years out is a very difficult thing.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
He mows says he has been saying all along the best thing is to let Obaamcare implode because then they will get the better deal. OK. The problem is his administration is going to do whatever they can to make Obamacare implode so he can get on with wealth care. No mention of fixing the problems with Obamacare seems rather puzzling until you' realize this is US politics. Like was mentioned previously, the POTUS actually wishing for a scenario that would undoubtedly cost American lives is unprecedented. Why isn't fixing Obamacare a consideration for the right if they are so concerned with US citizens, and want them to have better, cheaper health care?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) Lopez was the prize of the trade and he looks as-advertised or better. Dunning i have no idea what's going on Lopez is going to have to be pretty amazing if he is all they get for 5 pretty cheap years of Adam Eaton. They need the others to do something to make this trade look good.

The July 2 thing had to be about Robert I would think. You can't go over anymore when the next period begins as far as I know.

I was down on the trade because I thought Giolito was overhyped, but if spring training stats matter, Eaton has been horrible. See where this guy is in a year or two.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 08:17 AM) Those stats are a lot better than some of the other high K guys they have picked up like Kahnle (who they actually traded for). The K BB numbers seem better than the ERA. I wonder what the problem is - homer prone? Tommy Kahnle is better than this dope. And the stats couldn't be more cherry picked.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) This is so not surprising. The GOP is not the party of unity. They have no problem voting against the rest of their party when they don't believe in something. Politicians are worried about getting re-elected. If Trump were more popular, they would have had the votes.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) There are parts that need fixes or adjustments, but the GOP has blocked any such changes for 7 years now and is probably just going to keep sabotaging it. At the state level, though, there's at least a couple more Republican governments that are investigating expanding Medicaid. Sure it needs tweaking, although I agree, making sure it fails is probably Trump's best way to save face. So far, Muslim ban, no, Obamacare, repeal and replace, not so fast, border wall being paid by Mexico, Uh no. New trade agreements with several countries, right. Dealmaker to the stars. He gets things done. He's like....really smart.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) "We're going to be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future" -Paul Ryan Oh the horror. Obamacare has never been more popular. I was watching a scholar last night saying people seeing it helps white people and isn't something where the black president was only trying to help black people plays a huge role.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) So the greatest deal maker of all time couldnt even make a deal with his own party. Anyone up for a round of golf! He's different from Obama. He gets things done on the golf course. Obama golfed with his pals and a few world leaders. Trump golfed with the leader of Japan, Tiger, Rory McElroy. Getting things done. Always winning. The Art of a Deal.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) Interesting to see what happens if they dont have the votes. Trump will blame Ryan. He'll say he had a terrific health plan for everyone but Ryan's incompetence screwed it all up.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) If you want to criticize the last minute crap in this bill, you need to acknowledge the overall fact that Congress had just hours to see a 1200 page bill and then vote on it. It was a s***show. Yes that's commonplace, but you can't say one was OK and not the other. You CAN say that the GOP has done poorly here, which is obvious. But they are in fact doing many of the same things wrong the Dems did, keeping most of the chambers out of the discussion until a last minute bill was plopped in front of them. Considering how long they have been talking about repealing this and replacing this, their plan was as bad as could be. Sort of makes you wonder about their competence. Trump promised repeal and replace with something cheaper, with better care, and covered everyone. Where is it? And saying Obamacare did the same thing so we shouldn't complain that they are trying to ram this through without the proper study, why is that a legitimate excuse? If Obama was so bad, why is it OK when the Republicans do what appears to be the same thing, it's OK because Obama did it? Wasn't that the wrong thing? Maybe Obama wasn't the evil, America hater they claimed.

Emma Thompson trying to jumpstart her failing career by saying Trump hit on her in the 90s. BS, she was maybe a 6 or if you really want to stretch it, a 7 back then.Sadly she isn't even that anymore.

The entire bill is a big f*** you to anyone whose life would be affected if they had hundreds of thousands less in their accounts.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) What happened then has zero bearing on what happens now. I don't know. I bet it was used at least as an outline. A lot of things went right then. And for the most part, they acquired guys that were maybe a year closer than this current group of acquistions to contributing on the major league roster. There are a couple of guys here that could probably get their feet wet this year, but a lot of them are at least a couple of years away, and rookies usually don't lead to many wins. If it happens again where most everything goes right, it could be 3 years. Some problems, it could be a decade.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I see no possible way this team punts the next 3 seasons. The last time they went total rebuild, it took 3 tanking seasons although they projected 4. They wanted the team to be in place for the new park, but 1990 happened. And they didn't miss on their 1st round picks who were all on the team by August of 1990, and their trades were pretty stellar. They also didn't trade their main chips, Dotson, Bannister, DeLeon until after the 1987 season, when they dumped all 3, and didn't trade Harold for a year and a half after that. They kept Fisk and Ozzie, and Calderon.

Don't drug companies still make billions upon billions of dollars even with the evil Obamacare in place? These politicians are so in bed with the lobbyists, you know something is up when Eli Lilly (a company wherer one of my best friends is pretty high up) is basically masterbating at the thought of it being repealed and replaced. Billions aren't enough. Only people that can afford to get well should get well.
