  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) Williams comments directly stated Hahn has no off-season plan. Something he should have been pondering since August 20th. Did I misread or misunderstand something? There is no indication that things are fluid and they are analyzing the scene daily. He stated Hahn has no plan. Yes you did. It's great to have a plan to acquire player X for player Y but what if the other team says, "you're high"? Then guess what, you don't have a plan. He has to see what is available at a price he is willing to pay. Lock yourself into acquiring a certain player or position, and you usually overpay.
  2. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) This. I understanding anything said publicly this time of year is just noise/misdirection, but why make Rick Hahn look bad in the process? How in the world does this make Rick Hahn look bad? BTW, December 3rd is the day season ticket deposits are due. At least the first installment.
  3. Maybe at the very least, people will see Hahn does actually have a big say in things, not only the things you like, although many liked the things that occurred last offseason and praised Hahn, only to rip KW when they didn't work out.
  4. And a lot of his comments are noise. No sense letting the opposition know exactly what you are going to do.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) He did. It was the "perfect storm" and unlikely to be replicated. 1)Dombrowski as a GM overpays*; 2)Boston had the farm to support overpaying; and most of all 3)Dombrowski's achilles heel in Detroit was that bullpen. There was no way he was going to let it happen in Boston. KW was like that too. Overpaid. It was okay when the Sox had a top farm, like we did c. 2000-2005. But he started getting squeezed as the farm deteriorated. I used to be all for trading bullpen pitchers. But their value is skyrocketing. The modern pen requires 3 lockdown guys (Sox have one lockdown guy). Maybe that their value is skyrocketing is another reason to trade them - I don't know. Who are all the star prospects KW got rid of? People like to play both sides of the fence. KW was an idiot and drafted no one who could play, and KW was an idiot, he traded away all his good prospects. You can't have it both ways.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) The Sox are further away than just plugging C and 3B holes. One of our holes happens to be bullpen - not championship level. Another is the farm to get off this cycle. We can trade prospects if for equal young players... not hole-pluggers. That main Astros list is really 2nd tier players, some of whom are blocked and about to be out of options. Some should be had on the cheap and we should look and discern the price. The Astros have dumped 2 good outfielders in the last 2 years, so we should inquire. I would say in November, the bullpen looks stronger than it looked in the November prior to the White Sox winning a championship. And adding an often injured Dustin Hermanson didn't exactly make it look like a lockdown bullpen. They are tricky. The Sox could be sitting on gold right now, or maybe not.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 12:11 AM) Why? They just traded a boatload of prospects for a closer. Precisely the reason. They gave up a ton of prospects. They aren't going to empty the cupboard.
  8. Boston will not trade a boatload of prospects for Sale.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 08:24 AM) I'd be willing to bet that Sale would get $400+ million if he was on the open market this offseason. I think he would get a billion to a billion and and a half for 7 years with an opt out after 4, so he could make $2 billion.
  10. Check in, but remember he starts making $20 million a year in 2017, and they aren't going to make Abreu a full time DH yet.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) Played golf with three Iowa fans today. All I heard was " they would never fire Ferentz". That narrative changes more than any other in conference You should read the Fire Kirk Ferentz Facebook page and those are comments from this year. It is amazing how many Iowa fans can't get in touch with reality. There are posts that say he is being out coached this year. The team has 8 four star recruits on its roster, and no 5 star. When he finally does leave, they aren't going to know what hit them. I don't know what else these people expect. It is really amazing. The team is 10-0 for the first time ever, and some people still can't enjoy it.
  12. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) Jason Giambi fit Beane's model of acquiring players with high OBP. He was also attractive to teams who valued power and average, because he hit near .300 with 30-40 HRs. Heyward and Murphy similarly have value to teams that value other things as well. The White Sox also need to drastically improve their offense. You're going to pay more for a player who can hit 1-6 in your lineup than for a player who would ideally hit 7-9. Giambi was beginning his 4th season with the A's when Beane became GM. When Giambi was drafted, Beane was an advanced scout.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) I put data out there, not just the data that favors my position. It's called honest debate. Quentin carried us to the division in 2008. He didn't play the last month, but we aren't even in the race but for him. Where did I ever say Eaton wasn't any good? Do you think the people who come up with Q proposals believe Q isn't any good? I want to trade him because a)I think he is good but I think we can get better value in return; and b)His weakness (or area of mediocrity if you prefer)- lack of OF coverage - really hurts this team in this current OF structure where he is surrounded by 2 defensive oafs. You have written time and time again that Eaton isn't as good as his numbers , needs to be traded immediately. Keeping him is hero worship, and the Sox should build around Trayce Thompson who, ironically, isn't as good as his numbers. You really have a bad case of guys making the minimum worship.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) yea, Williams knew that was going to happen. Jackson Swisher Shark Dunn Those proven veterans. Meanwhile, prospect for prospect gets you: Quentin Eaton Davidson I'll take the latter approach. Davidson might not ever play MLB. You are the one Eaton isn't any good. Quentin was good but always hurt and would never play meaningful games if the White Sox did what you want them to do and always trade for prospects and always be in a perpetual rebuild.
  15. QUOTE (lord chas @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) I used to deliver for Nancys pizza in college. Nancys charged $3 per delivery and the drivers never saw a cent. I would definitely advise people to tip if you order consistently. Drivers will fight to deliver the good tippers food fast. Bad tippers food will sit and on the rare occasion guys would hold the pizzas out the window in the winter to send these customers a message That is part of the problem. I always grease the delivery guy, but have always assumed the delivery fee was going into his pocket as well. If someone orders $15 worth of food and pays a $4 delivery fee they assume the driver is getting, it is easy to see why the driver would get a weak tip or even stiffed.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) I don't think the Padres are rebuilding. All they did was clear 2 expensive relievers to try to improve other positions. The Boston prospects are still at least a year away, maybe 2 or 3.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 07:22 AM) Sure throw in Adams. i.e. ravage the farm for 2 years of Coors Field Cargo. The same kind of move as sending our top pitching prospect for Edwin Jackson. It gets the Sox nowhere. Sox don't have a lot in upper minors. Which is why we should keep our players in the lower minors. Trade Q or sign a FA first. Or try to get that 3B prospect Losing Daniel Hudson was a devastating blow to the White Sox. One in which they are still trying to recover. Once again, hero worshipping probably cost the White Sox 2 or 3 playoff appearances.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I believe that they can offer him the QO again next year can't they? Yes, but if he is average, they probably don't offer.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) The problem is that the Sox have to give up the pick that they will receive for Samardzija. If it was their 2nd rounder, I'd agree with you. However, the only reason they didn't give up Shark was to obtain that pick. It's going to be in the 25-28 range. I believe that takes them out of the market for any FA with a QO attached. If there was a 4-5 guaranteed WAR guy for the next few seasons, the Sox wouldn't care about the draft pick, but those guys also come with huge price tags. It will be interesting to see if anyone else takes the QO, and how the acceptance changes things moving forward. I am shocked Weiters took it, but when you think about it, it shouldn't be so shocking. You have to give up a pick for a guy who hasn't played a full season in a while. The offers couldn't have been that high. If he gets the $15.8 this year, and becomes an average catcher, he probably gets the same offers next year without the QO.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) They can't trade him. In the story on MLBTR about Rasmus accepting, it says the team can't trade him until June (or maybe July). I think they can trade him earlier if they get his consent.
  21. Until Avi understands which pitches he can hit hard, and which he cannot, he will be a disappointment. There are 2 things I would have done with him. One would have been in one of the September games that didn't mean anything, I would have had him go up to bat 4 times, and not swing once. Just watch the balls into the glove. With the book on him where throwing strikes makes no sense, he probably would have walked at least a couple of times. Show him that pitchers don't throw him strikes because they don't have to throw him strikes. Secondly, I would have him change his stance. Open him up, maybe lower his hands a bit, and see what happens. It worked for Nelson Cruz who was outrighted, available to anyone on waivers when he was 25 or 26. Status quo might work, but it's better he changes up. He obviously wants to be good, and has the talent to do it, but he needs a different approach, and different mechanics. I just don't see how his pitch recognition is going to get better by words alone. Give him a different look.
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) No Are you kidding?? No Hero worshipping.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) I delivered Pizzas in college briefly, this is how it worked for us: When the order was completed there was a cost associated. The driver then PAID the business for the order and collected from the customer the money back plus gratuity. If you were stiffed, no tip etc, it didnt matter. I was stiffed plenty of times and I ended up paying for that meal. This is pretty common across food delivery. I also made less than min wage there, I want to say 4-5 bucks an hour A friend of mine delivered pizzas. He always remember who stiffed him. Next time they received a pie, he made a few awkward stops, their pie hit the car floor a couple of times upside down. I would think the servers would hate this even though they are getting a better wage. I always tip cash. There isn't a server in the world that reports all their tips to the IRS.
  24. I got a Scott Downs road jersey for $25 at the season ticketholder party. It goes well with my $20 Gregory Infante, he of the career ERA 0.00 Infantes, black jersey. Everyone has a Konerko or a Sale. I like to be different, and it's a lot cheaper.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) If the Sox can somehow get Andrelton Simmons without giving up Q/Rodon/Fulmer, I would be ECSTATIC. That guy can play. They can get him for Sale.
