  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...ball-operations He's smarter in terms of baseball knowledge (more years around the game and just sports in general) and a better person without any of the hubris/baggage we get with KW and Hahn trying to work together. As long as KW is here, the relationship with Hahn will continue to be dysfunctional. You didn't even know he existed a year ago, now he knows so much. Well the good news is he is involved in just about every acquisition. In fact, your link I believe is the exact link I posted when you went on your the White Sox don't use advanced stats bender. How come you didn't say he should be GM then? Oh, BTW, David Glass said the Royals have no idea what they are going to offer Alex Gordon. How th f*** could they have no idea what they ar going to offer him at this point?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) No, I said they don't incorporate them into all aspects of operations...not unlike the Scioscia/Dipoto argument in LA. Ventura and KW certainly have access to them, but it's not THE guiding principal of the organization, especially in terms of integrating their use into onfield decisions. One area they have literally shifted has been with shifts...being in the bottom ten teams through 2013 and making the biggest jump up of any team in the majors in 2014. By the way, what evidence do you have from conversations with KW, Bell, Hahn and Hostetler they use them for scouting and evaluation? Did Laumann use them? Was he fired for not using them? We all know how old school Bell is, and KW's cut from the same cloth. The irony is both the Braves (Schuerholz/Moore/presumably Nick Hostetler) have always prided themselves on scouting and using their gut instincts perhaps more than any team in the majors over the last 20-30 years. BS. I love how you think you know the pulse of the White Sox organization. Just because it isn't reported on kansascity.com doesn't mean it doesn't occur. And Laumann wasn't fired, he took another job in the organization. It is a semi retirement, and before you go all JR loyalty, just look at the drafts between 2010-2015 of the White Sox and the greatest most perfect organization ever. I urge everyone who reads this thread to look at them. The White Sox drafted players are far better than what your Royals drafted. The Royals better fire someone. Dayton Moore scouting genius thought Christain Colon was a better idea than Chris Sale, thought Bubba Starling was a better idea than Sonny Gray, thought Kyle Zimmer was a better idea than Francisco Lindor.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) He's our Luhnow/Megdal. Very experienced with advanced statistical analysis (he's the one who created our in-house proprietary database), but he also has a strong background behind the scenes in scouting and evaluation. He's just not a self-promoter, seems like a very humble guy...works well with others behind the scenes to build consensus. I don't have time to pull all of his interviews and write-ups, but he's impressive. LMAO. He has been around forever. i mentioned Dan Fabian many moons ago when you were ranting about how the White Sox don't use advanced metrics. I am glad you learned something.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) so instead of trying to disprove this particular statement and post, you are trying to disprove him completely. many on this site has made some bad calls but lets not try to dig up all those. how many have you made??? The problem is to Caulfield and a few others, the White Sox are to them what Obama is to Fox News. It doesn't matter what they do. If they do something it is automatically wrong. Just keep in mind, eceryone makes mistakes. I don't know if Hahn is a good evaluator or not, but he did get most of the credit for the Jose Quintana signing. We will see. The trades he has made so,e have been good, some bad. Most of his signings haven't worked out. Maybe a couple of them still might. But there isn't. A GM in baseball that hasn't made some moves he would like to have back.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) And what has Hahn done as either an athlete or talent evaluator that makes you feel 100% confident he's the right person to be making these decisions? Other than the Abreu signing, which we always hear was mostly attributable to KW and Paddy's efforts... Bruce Jenner won the decathlon almost 40 years ago. He was considered the greatest athlete in the world. Now that he has transitioned into Caityn, maybe he would like to give being a baseball GM a try. He really impressed the world,as an athlete.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) You're probably one of the people in denial about Montas likely being ticketed to the bullpen in the near future aren't you? Mella has had rotator cuff issues. He throws 96, Montas throws 100. I will take the pick and the $2 million in additional pool money. BPs write up on Mella last year said medicals and mechanics would make him a reliever.
  7. What the White Sox need to do is go crazy during the Latin signing period. Any team that rebuilds through the draft will need a long time and some big breaks. The Cubs don't have a bunch of their draft picks on the field. KC with all their top 5 picks the last 10-12 years didn't have a huge amount of their draft picks on the field. A case could be made that the White Sox actually had a better draft than KC each of the past 6 years. They need to get a big influx of international guys. Pay the penalty over paying a Howie Kendrick. Through the draft you get one first round pick a year. Taking the penalty internationally you can get 2 or 3 .
  8. And before anyone says that's another reason they should have traded Samardzija, just remember he was so bad the second half, a replacement probably gets the White Sox an extra win or 2, which would have meant an unprotected pick at 11.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) The rules say that you'd forfeit your next pick if your 1st is protected. The "sandwich" picks can't be lost though. I'm almost sure of it. Seattle lost their comp pick when they signed Robinson Cano. Edit, they didn't because no one signed Morales in time, but the Yankees lost comp picks for Cano and Granderson that year signing free agents. So they would lose that pick first. I don't think they will be signing those guys anyway.
  10. It appears his wife will get his full pension, not one that would have been enhanced had he actually been killed in the line of duty. For him to have lost his pension, he would have had to have been convicted of the felonies he allegedly committed. Then they just would have paid him back what he put into the fund interest free. Since he is dead, he won't face s trial so he is innocent, and even if the wife gets convicted of a felony related to all of this, she will get his full benefit.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 07:48 AM) Ben Carson claimed in writing that he was offered and turned down a full scholarship to West point. There is no record of this ever happening. Compare it to his multiple other crazy personal lies and it seems like he's a serial liar who needs to puff up his own story And he is using the "I don't really remember the details" route, yet his campaign manager seems to be spinning all of the details. He's about done.
  12. This is hilarious, thanks Obama. http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/video...rs-jobs-report/
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 06:36 AM) Dan Hayes is suggesting we'd lose our comp pick from Shark if we signed a free agent that received a QO. Anyone know if this is true? Yes. You lose your next selection after The one that was protected.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) Rob Rains ‏@RobRains 3m3 minutes ago Affton, MO Winning bid for Byung-ho Park is $12.85 million. MLB team unknown but Korean team says it will accept bid. I am guessing Pirates or Yankees. I saw this guy on video. He doesn't set up the same, but his swing reminds me of Maggs when Maggs would, take a huge cut.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) This David Freese talk has me throwing up. I don't see him as the answer at 3B at all. Not a big fan. He seems to be one of those guys who will have a decent year if another team signs him, but hit.213 with 6 homers and a ton of errors if the White Sox were to get him. On the other hand, if you can be average at 3B, you are ahead of the game.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) Last time we checked, Beckham and Hawkins weren't exactly "low" draft picks. The complaint isn't so much about Sale, Anderson, Rodon and Fulmer as it is the wasteland which is all the other rounds the last two decades. They've done decently with pitchers such as Santiago, Reed, Petricka, Erik Johnson, and Nate Jones, but position players are another matter...that we've paid dearly for covering up minor league deficiencies with "buy high for diminished future production" results. The cycle feels endless at this point. One report comparing or linking Shark to Leake or Kazmir (with an agenda to make the Sox look better) isn't any more compelling than not knowing a single fact here. And Honestly, by that line of thinking, we were almost ready to give out the equivalent of a $90-100 million deal to Mike Leake or Scott Kazmir....how disastrous would that have been for Hahn/KW? Talk about poor evaluation. Would those two pitchers also have been projected by the front office to lead the Sox to the second wild card as Hahn intimated staying pat would do at the deadline? Beckham was picked 8th and has the 8th highest career WAR of the 46 players considered 1st round picks that year. Not as huge of a miss. Hawkins 13th, appears to be a miss, I will give you that one. Even Dayton Moore misses. Christain Colon 4th ? Chris Sale would have looked nice. Bubba Starling 5th? Sonny Gray might have been able to keep Cueto from having to be acquired and kept the dynamic duo of Duffy and Finegan together forever.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) Here we go again. Can we ever have a conversation without feeling the need to insult someone (basically the majority of the site)? Why is it necessary? If we believe the White Sox messed up the Shark situation, and there are plenty of arguments to support that position which are well known and articulated, how does voicing that opinion make you a whiner? Should we preface every retort with Sox Kool Aid drinkers would have us believe they planned the whole thing out in advance to go exactly the way it did? Again what was offered for Samardzija? The reports said it was similar to Mike Leake. The Reds received a pinch hitter who can't hit, and a 21 year old who throws 96 in high A, has potential, but has already missed time with a sore rotator cuff, and BP said medicals and mechanics point to a future in the bullpen. The White Sox are probably going to get a 25-28 pick if not slightly better and an additional $2 million to play with. They have no problem developing relievers. It made sense at the time to hang on. The fact is they did draft lower most of the last 2 decades. So if you are going to say picks near the bottom of the first round usually don't net any team much, then you really shouldn't complain about the White Sox drafts when the were selecting there. The other fact is, when they do make this selection, there will be players on the board who will eventually be all stars. They haven't picked these types, although they got Sale at 12 which was beyond a steal, so they are due.
  18. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) With them getting a comp pick where they are going to get them I can understand why there were some here that were saying it would have been better to get any low level prospect from anyone in a trade last season. Clearly there is a lot of value in getting a pick sandwiched between the first two rounds...like a lot of value. And while the habitual whiners who complain that when the Sox regularly drafted lower, they drafted crap, but now tell you that the draft position historically brings you crap, may even have a point, there is a couple of million in slot money that can be maneuvered.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) I think it's the order the free agents sign. So we want Samardzija to sign quick. Researching I think it goes by record so the 2 Padre picks would be the only picks before the White Sox
  20. How is the order of the comp picks chosen? 20 QOs could mean that pick becomes a few slots higher than previously thought.
  21. This would make a pretty good made for TV movie.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) One thing I forgot is Lexi could be 42 by now. The age thing. That's true. I really doubt he came over with a legit birth certificate.
  23. One day of watching him try to catch would make the team scrap it's plan. It would never work, and would probably piss off a lot of your roster.
  24. I sure didn't sound like Hahn expected him to accept it a few weeks ago. On the other hand, if he truly is convinced the reason he sucked is because he was tipping his pitches and will be awesome next season, he should take it. Not only would he make more because of performance, there isn't as much competition for the free agent pitching dollars next year. But that would be a bit shocking.
  25. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) Put this in here because he's on some lists. He was a prime candidate to accept IMO.
