  1. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) How many of the star power owners would move the team in a second to seal a larger profit margin. The Sox have a lease and other contracts. If there were cities that screamed huge profits, and the White Sox happen to be one of the more profitable teams in baseball according to Forbes, they would have a team by now.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) damn i hate yous guys. The Big Unit Randy Johnson is their photographer. He was in front of me most of the second half of the show, but he ducked the whole time. I kind of felt sorry for him.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) I just saw them at the UC last Friday night...twas fun. They've been my favorite band since I was a teen, and remain my favorite band today. I was there as well. Floor center row 2. Pretty sweet.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) With the way Thibs abused Butler, trading him might not be the most awful idea. We all know the Bulls aren't winning anything as currently constructed anyway. A sign and trade deal involving the #2 pick could be a starter. Butler age 24 38.7 mpg 25 38.7 mpg M. Jordan age 24 40.4 mpg 25 40.4 mpg 26 39.0 mpg T.Duncan age 24 38.7 mpg age 25 40.6 mpg age 26 39.3 mpg L.James age 21 42.5 mpg 22 40.9 mpg 23 40.4 mpg 24 37.7 mpg 25 39.0 mpg 26 38.8 mpg Thibs "abuse" is really overblown. Even Popovich used Duncan more at the same age.
  5. Butler isn't going anywhere.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) O/U Runs scored by White Sox tonight: 0.5 I will take the over. Someone will hit a HR.
  7. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) this was spurred by a discussion B and B had yesterday about plans for the bulls and sox when reinsdorf dies. they said (and this could totally be b.s., considering the sources) that there is a succession plan in place for the bulls, but the white sox will go up for sale almost immediately. to that end, what type of owner or ownership group could we expect to see, given all that we know about the state of the organization. would the sox an attractive option (major market, great opportunities) or terribly unattractive (bad television rating and attendance)? and what would you want to see in a new ownership group? as a caveat, i'll acknowledge that reinsdorf could own the team for another decade, and the climate could be very different then. for the purposes of this discussion i'd say assume the situation is fairly similar to what it is now. Several years ago, I knew a guy who knew Reinsdorf's son quite well. I posted on this site many years ago there were blueprints to build 3 structures in the parking lots, I was told they were bars but 2 of them were bars, one the Sports Depot. This was years before they were built. They didn't build the one on the other side of the park....yet. JR's son now runs the Bulls, and despite what you heard over the years, at least as of a few years ago, he also hoped to be in his dad's role with the White Sox. If you read the Tribune article years ago, JR's heirs will retain his power with the ballclub upon his death. (Which I hope is a long ways off) . I would expect his son to take over. It will probably be a different style. Probably a little less conservative.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) In today's game I almost think it's a requirement that your manager be an ex catcher. Relying on Cooper and Flowers to call the balls and strikes and RV to know when to start the running game and when not doesn't seem to be working very well. The whole thing with how Parent handled Eaton rubbed me the wrong way as well and is indicative of a fractured clubhouse imo. Yea Eaton needs to grow up, play better, and not say dumb s*** like "stir the drink" but how about standing behind the guy you just committed 25 million dollars to instead of having the acting f***ing manager bench him for a career AAAA player? The whole org is a mess right now and the stench goes much deeper than just RV, unfortunately. This is hysterical in a couple of ways. First off, Parent is an ex-catcher, so that should make you happy. And secondly, earlier in the year, you were ripping Robin for what you thought was being too buddy buddy with....Eaton, when Robin said Eaton was his leadoff man.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/06/lebron-jam...p;dlvrit=206567 Great read on LeBron's legacy. It's also interesting to think about how for so long LeBron was billed as a guy it would be easy to build a winner around. How he made his teammates so much better than Jordan did. Well, I guess it isn't anymore. LeBron is an enigma. He's best when he's dominating the ball and caring about others second. But his teams are best built for him to facilitate and involve others. The best teams to build around LeBron are ones that allow him to dominate the ball, but allow him to get others the ball. He needs to dominate and facilitate. The best team that I can think of for LeBron would have been the '10-'11 Bulls with him taking Rose's place. Noah and Boozer taking care of the boards, Deng handling tough defensive assignments and Brewer/Korver being out there for whatever is needed. Asik and Taj off the bench. Just forget Bogans. They were saying the same things about Jordan his first 7 seasons. One player can't win. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened had Irving been healthy. GS may still have won. I never thought LeBron was as good as Jordan, I think he could have been better if he had the same fire, but he's good enough to make a glorified expansion roster without Irving and Love, a team that gave GS a decent scare.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) I think heavy fine, loss draft picks, big suspensions for front office people at a minimum (potentially barring ability to sign international players for period of time). I would think anyone involved is probably done in baseball.
  11. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) I was actually thinking Hahn was in control, until kW was all over the media outlets during the winter meetings. KW buried this farm system, yet he still has a say in organizational personnel? C'mon Jerry, wake up and get with the times. It's not 2005 anymore. If Hahn is the GM, let him run this whole damn thing. Let Kenny and his lame manager choice, RV go. Let Buddy Bell and the scouting department staff go and bring in guys with a different mindset. Guys who actually know how to scout talent, No more drafting of guys like Jared Mitchell instead of Mike Trout etc.. The fans are pissed, change is being demanded. Throw your loyalty out the window and do what's right for the organization. Hell if you want to model the organization after the Blackhawks, look at some of their moves when Rocky took over. He hired a solid team president who was bold enough to bring in the Bowmans (outside the organization). They eventually let Hawk legend Savard go as the coach and brought in Quinville (outside the organization). Not to mention they promoted Stan Bowman as the GM to replace another longtime Blackhawks guy, Dale Tallon. I know it's comparing apples and oranges but Rocky Wirtz changed the culture of a losing organization by getting rid of loyal old time dudes and brought in amazing hockey minds outside the organization. Jerry needs to suck it up and do the same thing. I mean how much longer do us fans have to suffer from this crap and see Robin, Harold on the bench, see Kenny override Hahn on moves and watch the farm system continue to be on the bottom half of baseball, prospect wise? To be blunt, this organization currently stinks and will for awhile until the culture has changed and the proper moves have been made. Unfortunately, with JR at the helm, those moves will most likely not happen. For that reason, it's time for new ownership to take over. Dale Tallon did pretty well building most of the current core.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) There are LOTS of White Sox fans out there like yourself "lying dormant" but who still care deeply and passionately about their favorite team and are upset/frustrated/bordering on furious with the current direction of things. Good post. Obviously there are some who will make the case that managers don't matter, hitting coaches, etc., they'll say look at the record of the the Brewers or the Marlins or whatever team that hasn't magically gone on a playoff run. To that, I'll just say why did the 2012 White Sox, with basically the same or lesser personnel as 2011 and with over 10 rookie pitchers (half of them nowhere near a MLB roster right now) play so well for 5 months, when the only difference was changing from Guillen to Ventura? Finally, how did the 2013 and 2014 and 2015 defense/s go from being one of the best in the AL in 2012 to the worst? Why did the 2012 defense play so much better? Why did all those guys like Viciedo, DeAza and Ramirez regress in the seasons since? In 2015, how can every single player on the entire roster be worse (in the case of Eaton and Alexei, the two best defenders last year...FAR WORSE) or regressing from a defensive standpoint? The only two decent defensive players right now are Beckham and Sanchez, and they're also in the biggest offensive slumps, and, at best, are limited offensively. “Whether they are trying too hard or not, maybe you try harder,” Ventura said. But White Sox manager Robin Ventura is positive it’s not for a lack of preparedness. “No, they’re ready,” Ventura said. “They’re ready. When they come in the game, they’re ready to go. You can sit there, bounce around, have them throw more pitches, they’re ready to go when they go in the game. It’s just a phenomenon that needs to stop. It was a fluke until we started leading the league in it. So something has to stop and we have to have guys get better when they get in there in the first inning.” “I don’t know if there is an answer to it,” Ventura said. “Obviously these guys don’t want to do that, but when they come in and any time pitchers ease into a game it’s a bit easier for the offense. First impressions are always hard to get away from. That first inning of setting the tone is there and you want to get away from that because it’s negative." I feel pretty confident the answers aren't there, but whatever. It comes down to "trying harder" and pitchers have to set the tone early (at home) so that the offense can relax a bit more. Nothing about fielding/baserunning/lack of execution/mental mistakes. www.csnchicago.com Is Robin saying something wrong here? Isn't the job having the pitchers ready for the 1st inning on Don Cooper? He is the one with them in the bullpen. He is the self proclaimed manager of the pitching staff.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) Nothing says fire like Gentlemen Jim's demeanor. Did you see the interview with Mike Schmidt who was talking about when George Brett was the hitting coach in KC? He said George told him he quit because the players wouldn't work with him.
  14. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) I want Greg Walker back god dammit. I just think it is weird. The Sox don't hit now it is Robin's fault. When they didn't hit before Robin, it was never Ozzie's fault. I don't know if Steverson is any good or not, and I really haven't seen players comment, but you would think he would get some heat here. I don't think changing him would make the team suddenly hit, but if this offense comtinues, he may be the sacrificial lamb this offseason. KW used to love changing hitting coaches.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) 4 singles in 13 innings How come Steverson takes no heat here? It is a total change from anemic offense blames in the past.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) 38 at-bats and a WHOPPING 668 OPS. Actually, he should be hitting clean-up. From 2012-2014 (a much more reliable sample size) 1st 796 OPS 2nd 658 OPS 3rd 743 OPS 4th 2.000 OPS 6th 687 OPS 7th 652 OPS 8th 804 OPS The irony is that he's never hit 9th that whole time, which is where he probably belongs but Flowers and Sanchez are even more abysmal. #funwithstatistics Even with your cherry pick stats you make a comment that makes no sense. If a guy has an .804 OPS batting 8th, why does he belong 9th?
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) That version of Alexei Ramirez NO LONGER EXISTS, anymore than the "good" Melky Cabrera does. #factssuckbutwecantdenytheirimpactonreality He is hitting .289 in the 2 hole this year. LMAO
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Or you can say it all started with putting Alexei in the critical 2nd spot in the order where he can't bunt to advance runners or manage how to think a bit about the specific offensive situation and adjust his approach. Yet he has more than double the plate appearances in that spot than in any other spot in the order during his career and his numbers are better than if he bats 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th. #factssuckwhenyouwanttocomplaim
  19. I don't think any ball hit Avi's way can be classified a can of corn.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) Listened to Bernstein and the Score legal expert. Can't believe people are actually pushing for a postseason ban for the Cardinals. That would be ridiculous, but a big fine and loss of several top draft picks seems to be a decent starting point. I don't know what is more stupid. Hacking into their system or getting caught.
  21. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) They could put Abreu at 3rd and LaRoche at 1st. As bad as Abreu has been at 1B lately, he would probably be beer league bad at 3B.
  22. That Stanton for Correa and Springer plus was interesting. I guess it means trading Sale to Houston for a package that starts with Correa isn't going to happen. Obviously, this is a criminal investigation. It will be interesting to see who with STL is tied to this. Obviously, if proven to be true, someone or maybe a few will lose their jobs but that could be the least of their worries. I agree with the above. I think this was one team, and they were seeing what their ex employee was up to. I just wonder if they would have uncovered proof that he was using something they considered Cardinals property, how they would have gone about reporting it. It isn't like they could have said, well we hacked into their program and saw it with our very own eyes.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) Gee, I've written of posts referring to both him and Jeremy Haber, but apparently you missed those. ONCE AGAIN, YOU'RE SAYING THAT KW IS PROFICIENT WITH ADVANCED METRICS. Where is this coming from? Because every team in baseball now has 2-3 guys in their front office who concentrate on that area...not to mention all the guys hired from Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, fangraphs, etc.? As Balta has pointed out over and over and over again, the pitching isn't the problem over the last decade, it's the hitting. How is KW using advanced metrics to bring better hitters into the organization? KW has had the advanced stats guys there since day 1, you are the one insinuating he has had none, and that none of the things he did, which includes a World Championship team, use advanced numbers, which is total BS. Balta failed to mention that the years where the White Sox were terrible, which contributed to about 80 games below .500, their pitching was awful. When the won the WS, the thing everyone wants, they were a top pitching team, and middle of the road to below average overall offensively.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching/_/le...ric/order/false 29th out of 56 vs. 47th for John Danks. Okay. WHIP. Ventura 31st, Danks 54th out of 56. 4.68 ERA with supposedly the best defense in baseball behind him. Is he living up to his talent level? Where is the leadership?
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) Examples? In the last 7-8 years (after the Quentin/Ramirez/Danks/Floyd acquisitions), there have been just a few excellent players added to the organization. There's Chris Sale, Abreu and Rodon kind of fell into their laps. If you can convince anyone that KW used advanced stats to identify either one of those players...well, I'll believe it when I see it. Earlier, you asked me how much time I've spent playing sports. How much time has Rick Hahn? I'm not the issue to be solved for the White Sox front office, it's talent identification and development that are on trial here. I don't know why he would need to prove he used advanced stats to sign Jose Abreu. He was the one that got him. Put here is a guy that has been with the Sox for 27 years who apparently you have never heard of. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...ball-operations
