  1. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:52 PM) If it was, it means that Soto isn't taking signs, which opens another set of manager concerns. That being said, you're right --- probably was just a double play avoidance tactic. Full count it is a very common move
  2. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) I'm not wrong about the hit and run. And I just said I'd be unsure about groundball/hit v K, not that it's wrong. I'm simply asking why you think that. It wasn't a hit and run
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) No it doesn't. A hit and run is best used when: a) the batter is someone who does not frequently strike out, b) at a time when the count won't disadvantage a hitter if he takes a bad swing and c) with a runner fast enough to take second base even if the batter does strike out. The Sox didn't have a, b or c. And why do you think a ground ball or a hit is more likely than a K? Genuine question, just briefly thinking about it without running numbers I'd be really unsure about that. Run the numbers. You are wrong.the 2 bad things are a K and a line out in the infield. There is more than a 50% chance that doesn't happen.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) He was probably safe today by an inch, which is not enough when you have to steal bases 70+% of the time for it to be worth it. He's 9 for 20 on his career now. Soto is a flyball hitter who is striking out 34% of the time. The chance of a strikeout is higher than a ground ball. Ground ball + hit is greater than k. So the play makes sense
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Not really. He was safe last night and a lot of people say he was safe today. Running to steal and running to stay out of a DP or running for a hit and run are 2 different things Exactly. He wasn't concerned about getting a big jump. Totally different situations.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) Why the f*** does this team keep trying to run?? Ironically he was running to stay out of a DP
  7. Only Soxtalk would complain the manager they complain is managing won't be managing. His daughter goes to college in CA, the Sox are in FL. Typically 2 games are missed but it is not practical he gets back for the Sunday afternoon game.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Don't give in to Springer. Of course, behind him is Altuve...maybe the best hitter in the AL. Yeah Mike Trout is no Jose Altuve.
  9. Sox have been running the bases better lately.,Still some dumb things from time to time but not daily.
  10. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 09:29 PM) Good to see Ventura using Duke as a LOOGY. That's all he's shown he's capable of being, so far... Obviously you haven't looked at his splits.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Only 18,000+? That's not a good crowd for June, even for a Tuesday night. Guess there aren't many closet Astros/Correa and/or top prospect followers in Chicagoland. Petricka coming in next inning. I guess, in all fairness, the Twins and Astros aren't drawing that well and they're both in first place. Haven't you told us 100 times why no one goes to games? Now you can't complain about them winning 2-0, so mention the attendance. Again.
  12. SoSoto is hitting .294/.368/.353 vs. LHP, a really hot lefty is facing the Sox but the b****ing continues because Gillaspie, LaRoche, Sanchez, and Shuck are riding pine vs. a lefty?
  13. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) That's kind of a sad for a 4th round pick. I think your expectations of 4th round picks are a bit high. The White Sox have 2 4th round picks out of 50 that have put up at least a 1.0 WAR for them for their career.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) you can say all that, but it still has an element of luck. I just think they picked bad players. In 2004 they had 7 picks in the first 89. Fields, Lumsden,Gio, Whisler, Lucy, Liotta, Hansen. Gio turned out great for another team after trading him twice. All the others were pretty much junk. Not even replacement level players. That, IMO, is bad scouting.
  15. I wanted Fulmer all along, but after reading all the post draft fluff, I'm even more tickled.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) to tell you the truth, i can't remember much from that era. but again, look at the talent level, how can you compare those guys to a Jared Mitchel, Josh Phegley, Aaron Poreda, Gordon Beckham. No, but the term rushed is overblown IMO.
  17. When Himes drafted McDowell, Ventura, Thomas, and Fernandez, no one complaned they were rushed.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Would be something the sox f***ed the cubs over two straight years in picks. (although Schwaber looks really good) Apparently they like Fulmer alot. Payback for when the Cubs drafted Mike Harkey who the Sox wanted so they had to settle for Jack McDowell, and the time the Cubs looking for a 3B for years drafted Ty Griffin so the Sox had to settle for Robin Ventura with the next pick.
  19. Ar least Bud won't be doimg the draft anymore. We don't have to hear him say the Los Angeleees Angels of Anaheim.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Stephenson is considered a bat that can catch. His bat is considered good enough to profile in the OF or CI. The dig on Flowers was that his defense was subpar and he may not have the hit tool to play another position. His power was there but too much swing an miss. Stephenson is more along the lines of a guy like Will Myers or Alex Jackson from last years draft as a high school catcher that has a bat that can carry him. Alex Jackson is Courtney Hawkins this year.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Trout didn't have any ridiculous demands associated with him, at least not that I was aware of. I think ultimately Trout got slightly more than Mitchell. Nothing that would make a difference.
  22. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) I wish they could get a hitter. Like Benintendi or Stephenson. Remember when Tyler Flowers was considered a hitter? He was Kris Bryant in the fall league and came to the Sox and hit .300 with .400 OBP with power in AA and AAA. Then suddenly he couldn't hit. Catchers scare me. Most of them can't hit. Maybe the demands of the job, not just the beatings they take, just take it's toll. I am very leery of HS catchers. There is so much they have to achieve just running the game and the beatings, where predicting offense is very difficult.
  23. And any b****ing about Beckham being rushed is kind of ruined by how he performed in 2009. Maybe they should have sent him down in a subsequent season or two, but he did win Sporting News ROY, and only a shortage of playing time cost him that official honor.
