  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 28, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) A couple infield hits the last 2 days really helps that average. I still like him has a utility guy off the bench though. I don't think he should be getting the majority of starts (just against lefties and a late inning sub) He's hit the ball pretty hard this year. He is showing a lot more value than most thought.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 28, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) I really hate when home umps call the check swing. Just ask the ump at 1st or 3rd I agree unless it is beyond obvious.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 28, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) Chris Sale is a man! I always thought that was pretty obvious. The beard totally gives it away.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 28, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) An average BABIP is about .300. I'm (not dismissing) but questioning hot streaks when they came with .449 and .426. .250 is not a BABIP well over 100 points away from the norm. The worst hitters in the league often have BABIPs around .260. And for that matter, even a normal BABIP and he'd still have an awful line. His BABIP last year was .326 and it produced an awful line. His .344 in AAA last year put up a decent line, and that is not too crazy of a BABIP for a non homer guy, plus he is 23 years old, he isn't a finished product. I think he can be an average to slightly above average hitter at the major league level. And who knows, he may get better than that.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 28, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) You don't think Carlos Sanchez is going to be a good hitter. You're arguing just to argue here. I don't think he will be that good no. But to call a guy "non threatening" because he didn't hit a pitch is silly. And then say he has had BABIP fueled streaks, which I bet a lot of players who are considered good hitters have, and make no mention that his BABIP is currently about .250, so he probably could be doing better. But I will give him credit for being the first to tell us Carlos Sanchez will always be a non threatening hitter.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 28, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) And again, obviously I'm not simply judging him on one pitch. He hasn't just struggled, he's hit .179/.233/.231 , good for a 26 wRC+, a full 74% off league average. Last year he was at 54. Anything below 60 is considered awful. Bar a couple of BABIP-fuelled streaks he hasn't really hit in the upper minors either. He's obviously young, but it's no exaggeration to call him non-threatening at the plate. It is funny you dismiss hot streaks due to BABIP, but don't seem to care what his BABIP is up until this point when you just say he is awful at about 30 AB.
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 28, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) Quite obviously I don't think that. Any analysis I make on major league baseball players is within the context of MLB and MiLB. When I say Sanchez is non-threatening at the plate, I'm comparing him in the context of an extremely high standard. I would have thought that went without saying. I don't think Sanchez is a great hitter by any stretch, but you need to put things into context. Rookies on the major league level with a few exceptions, generally struggle. 90 MPH fastballs down the middle aren't always hit 450 feet by the greatest hitters. Go to a game and watch batting practice, or better yet, watch a pro golfer hit a ball off a tee, and watch how many times they actually don't hit that correctly, and that is hitting a still object with a flat object.
  8. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 28, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Sanchez is so non-threatening at the plate. A 3-1 90 mph fastball in the middle of the plate and he lofts it harmlessly to the left fielder. No offense, but you seem to think hitting baseballs is pretty easy. Why don't you take your knowledge, apply it, take up the game, and make $30 million a year?
  9. Sale had no spring training. I am sure they were being very careful with him to start the season. Having throw a lot of sliders when he isn't quite all the way there strength-wise, probably is dumb.
  10. If Sale could do that 8 more times today, he will hold some records.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) Do you honestly see Ventura as a "baseball lifer" who will stick at this managing thing for that long? None of those guys made so much in the playing days (well, probably Torre) that they were set for life to the point where they could set their family up for a lifetime without managing during their "second lives" in the game. What does that have to do with it? They were HOF managers who lost games, something you claim proves Ventura is an idiot.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) Now see, why wasn't the media talking about this before? Chuck Garfien ‏@ChuckGarfien 34m34 minutes ago We knew there was tension between Thibodeau and the front office, but when he lost the locker room, the writing was on the wall. How much of that was knowing his status was lame duck?
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) That press release from JR absolutely trashed Thibs, wow. He did mention keeping things private. That is pretty weird.I don't know about absolutely trashed, but I think it was a little over the line. His President tried beating up a former coach (minutes restriction on that one as well) and the coach he is firing has a .730 winning pct when the former MVP they lucked out in being able to draft is in the line up. Gar/Pax don't exactly seem like a working well with others pair, and that is 2 coaches they supposedly got wrong. I think 3 strikes you should be out.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) They keep using the word "tendonitis" Which brings up the old Rick Sutcliffe line, "They tell you that you have tendonitis when they don't know what's wrong with you."
  15. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) I didn't see the game, I'm just looking at the box score. If those runs were compliments of Alexei, then why are all 5 of his runs earned? Wouldn't he be charged with 5 runs, 4 unearned and 1 earned if Alexei was to blame? Alexei spun around and failed to step on 2nd for a DP. He did throw the guy out at 1st. But since there was an out, there is no error. The inning would have been over with no runs. Then what typically happens when something goes awry this year happened, and 4 runs were on the board.
  16. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Well, in the 2 innings before that, he allowed 5 runs. What's your point? He's just not very good. He'll eat innings, sure, but he's not that good. And the 4 runs he allowed in the first were compliments of Alexei. I don't know what you expect out of a 5th starter, but it apparently is an ERA below 1.00. The guy had not started a game in a couple of weeks and actually did pretty well.
  17. Have they ever mentioned what is causing the swelling in Avi's knee? If it isn't really anything, it seems to be hanging around a while.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) Bye Noesi. I imagine they'll announce it after game 1 just in case. The last 5 innings he has pitched, he has not allowed a hit.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Let him shoot. He's been very inefficient so far this post-season. I've never understood LeBron settling for jumpers other than to hold off some fatigue. If he gets it in his mind to take it to the basket, he cannot be stopped, and GS will be no lock to win.
  20. What I don't understand is I thought Beck was the 26th guy. Why wouldn't they just call Webb up and make a corresponding move instead of calling him the 26th guy as well? Is it still certain Beck is starting game 2? I just read the rule. Since this has been scheduled for more than 48 hours, the 26th guy is eligible to participate in both games, so it makes sense Webb would be the 26th guy and Beck just a regular call up.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) Yeah either Connor or Avi or Noesi dfa Why in the world would the Sox DFA Noesi. Yes, he started out bad after not pitching for a while last game when his defense screwed him. But his last 4 or 5 innings, he pretty much gave up nothing.
  22. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 28, 2015 -> 07:31 AM) Reality. 35 years, five postseason appearances. Only four of the 25 non-expansion teams with fewer appearances. Outside of 2005, a combined four postseason victories in the other four appearances in '83, '93, '00, and '08. Reality. One division title, one postseason victory in the entire decade since '05. 212 losses since April of '13. Reality. Cumulative effect of Jerry Reinsdorf and his management team's failure to field something even remotely resembling a winning product: a big market team practically last in attendance and TV ratings in all of baseball as we speak. Schtick. All of this is somehow the fans' fault. GMAFB. Instead of chronic complaining why not go "support" another team. One that meets your standards. You have other options. You wouldn't keep going to a restaurant you thought sucked and didn't enjoy for 35 years. You don't owe the White Sox anything. And they don't owe you anything.
