White Sox vs Astros Game Thread 5/31
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2015 Season in Review
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) He is missing this road trip due to having a "minor operation" that they haven't elaborated on. Barring setbacks or any other news we expect him back when they get back to Chicago at last update. Chuck Swirsky, bulls radio guy, is subbing on this road trip. Eye surgery. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Channeling my inner Dick Allen, the Sox lineup in the 2008 playoffs featured zero players the White Sox drafted. Alexei was the only player that had played only for the Sox. I read something yesterday where they are crying in Boston hoping this new guy they called up is goodbecause it has been since 2007 they have brought up a sarting pitcher that has been good for them. And that includes years with the great Theo in charge.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) The irony is that being mediocre year after year for a decade is much worse than rebuilding. The issue isn't rebuilding...it's finding someone we can actually trust to develop young players, especially position players. How can we rebuild when we can't even successfully produce one player over a full decade...unless you want to "credit" someone for Gordon Beckham? Or Marcus Semien...but would Marcus have a 750-800 ops if still around? Doubtful. It's not about being impatient with young players and giving them time to develop. It's about being stuck with players like Beckham and Flowers year after year...players who don't improve and often regress over time. If Carlos Sanchez or Conor Gillaspie had the ability to be Top Ten players at their position (like a Joe Crede)...sure, but they max out at 15-18 and that's absolute ceiling if everything goes perfectly like with Conor last year. More than likely, they're botton third guys and you can only have 2-3 in your line-up like that, not 5-6. Obviously, that's counting on Eaton and Avi, and the jury's still out on those two. If the White Sox fans had Bryant, Russell, Soler, Baez and Schwarber to cheer for...at least they would be excited like Sox fans when Ventura, Sosa, One Dog and Thomas came up...or later when Durham, Magglio, C-Lee, Cameron/Konerko, Singleton, Rowand and Crede debuted. People here couldn't wait for AJ to leave. Flowers defense alone was going to make him more valuable than AJ ever was. People loved Sanchez, and giving him 2 weeks of AB befor pulling the plug is silly. Just like the dump Alexei movement. Call Tim Anderson up this year or the frist couple of months of next, he will be seen as a guy who cannot hit or field.

QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ May 31, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) Haha at people wishing Gordon Beckham is a starter now. How opinions change so quick. They were pissed he was signed, and even more pissed he made the team out of sprimg training.
-
Considering how a lot of people can't take 2 weeks of Carlos Sanchez struggling, even though there was a walk off hit in there, it pretty much answers the question why a total teardown and rebuild will never happen

QUOTE (harkness @ May 31, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) Yeah were just complaining about this last game.... not the fact that were the 2nd to worst offensive team in the MLB.... You are the only one focused on last game. The offense had been coming around the last 4 or 5 games, but from your comments in the game thread it appears you have no idea the guy the Sox faced yesterday has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year, and seemed to forget the Sox best hitter was not playing. And of course what would any change of player personnel do? You have already blamed the manager for the offense.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 31, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) The idea is to get more pop out of 3B, Beckham moved over to second and Gillaspie on the bench when the Sox face lefties. I definitely get your points though and agree. Davidson would clearly be a desperation move but with the lack of production coming from third and second bases I guess desperate ideas are bound to pop up. Lol. For now, with what the Sox have to work with, the best idea might be to play Beckham at second more since nobody has stepped up and claimed the position. Beckham can still play 3B against lefties. Honestly, I think I'm just now starting to realize just how big the holes are at 2B/3B and the lack of options the Sox have to fill those holes. I'm scratching my ass over here. And in a week or two there will he cries about how Beckham needs to be replaced. This site is bi polar. Prospects coming up is a good thing, except if they are normal rookies and struggle their first few weeks. Then, they are trash. Ride it out with Sanchez and Johnson. The Sox lost to the ERA leader in the AL yesterday without their best hitter available. They aren't the first team not to put up much offense vs. him. Melky is starting to hit some balls hard again. Get Abreu back with Avi, get something out of the catchers, get Eaton to forget he has hit 2 homers recently, and the offense should bounce back.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 31, 2015 -> 07:58 AM) He is also hitting .258 with 6HR in 66 at bats against left handed pitchers in AAA. How often do the Sox face a lefty, and what are the odds Davidson doesn't have a drop off movimg up a level? The guy is a striekout machine.

Official NHL 2014-15 Thread

Sounds like a home game when the Hawks score -
QUOTE (harkness @ May 30, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) This thread has existed for weeks. Also still not sure what you are arguing about because part of DFA is sent to the minors... its one of 4 different options the team has. Again, if you have options remaining..........nm. And this thread was started by you today.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 30, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) You seem to have a habit of putting words in people's mouths. He didn't say scoring no runs was Sanchez's fault. He simply suggested replacing the guy with a wRC+ of 14 with the guy with a wRC+ of 111. LMAO. No one likes Gordon Beckham here more than me, but it isn't about what your wRC+ is right now. It is about what it will be tomorrow and in the future. If Gordon Beckham was going to continue to put up those numbers playing every day at 2b, and Sanchez was goimg to hit .170 the rest of his life, it would make sense. But that is most likely not the case.
-
QUOTE (harkness @ May 30, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) Sent back to the minors where he has been for most of his career... including the beginning of this season.... You can also quit saying crap that I didn't say like its all his fault or he is the reason. That's a pretty big jump to conclusion Dick. That is not what a DFA is, and Sanchez wouldn't be DFA'd because he has options left and doesn't have to go through waivers. If the White sox won 4-3 or 2-1 today, this thread doesn't exist. It was a tough match up for the Sox today, especially without Abreu.
-
QUOTE (harkness @ May 30, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) Yeah sending Sanchez back to AAA would be "panic"? Or playing guys at positions they have always played.. Weird definition of panic there Dick. You said he would be DFA'd. Do you even know what that is? If Gillaspie played 3B today and Beckham 2B, the odds are overwhelmimg they still wouldn't have scored.
-
QUOTE (harkness @ May 30, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) Perhaps but if Sanchez doesn't start hitting soon he will be DFA... It's also about not destroying his confidence. He won't be DFA'd.
-
So the White Sox didn't score vs.a pitcher with an ERA under 2.00, without Abreu in the line up, and more panic sets in. Now scoring zero is Sanchez's fault. LMAO

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) I will grant you this - we haven't screwed anything up nearly as bad as "passing on Bryant and Rodon" recently. That is pretty brutal. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 30, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Coming into the season, I'm pretty sure he only rated above average in RF Either way, I don't think it is a very big deal. When the Sox brought back Beckham, I figured Bonifacio was more or less the 4th OF. But his bad spring training must have really shot him down the charts. He has been behind Beckham and Shuck simce opening day. -

I don't think the Sox see Bonifacio as an OF. Has he played there this season? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) When you have 2 hitters in your whole lineup who are above average, losing 1 of them is a pretty big loss. And really, you totally cover yourself in dignity with the bolded. You can't make a valid point yourself about why its a good idea to play people until injuries get worse rather than giving them enough time off to manage them...so you devolve to making personal comments. As I stated before, I would listen to the medical staff. The people who are educated and trained for this kimd of thing. If you remember Robin's comment when Avi was initially tsken out and reentered the line up, he said it was a case where playing on it wouldn't make it worse. You can think he just made this up off the top of his head, and the training and medical staff were never consulted, and everyone is afraid of Robin in the White Sox organization so they will just do as he says, but it would be a case of you being incorrect again. He was cleared medically, he said he was good to go, he played. Even if he sat the one magical day, I am guessing with his current injury, it wouldn't have suddenly dissappeared. And the comment about Ozzie's education is pretty accurate.

XRay on Abreu negative. Not in the line up. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) I'm sure you agree the White Sox don't need Abreu's bat for the next 2 weeks if this is a major problem right? We should listen to the guy with a 5th grade education. Dr. Ozzie. Sit for omeday, problem solved. Besides, you said Abreu is a tick above average. How would that be a big loss?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:18 AM) The new story is that Hoiberg interviewed with Orlando If the Mayor winds up anywhereupother than the Bulls I apaologize for being wrong, but I think any play at this point is to hide the fact that this move was pretty much agreed to months ago.
