QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) Indeed. I haven't read the comics, but I understand that Negan is supposed to be a really bad guy but also can be charming and funny. I laughed out loud (and felt really bad about it) when he was driving the RV and a zombie's head exploded against the window and Negan said, "Remind you of anyone you know?" That's what my wife said. His ability to play that character is incredible. When he let Rick off the hook late in the episode she actually found herself liking him.

Making it is awesome but the second you lose the joy is gone. Remember the Bears superbowl of not too long ago....how about losing the conference championship game a few years later. That is some pretty good success right there that does help the failures of the franchise over the last 31 years. The fans certainly have a good outlook for the next few years but it seems everything has gone right for them in this rebuild for it to remain chugging ahead like this.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Nothing wrong with that. They rooted for us openly in 05. It was on their promenade.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) I actually felt really happy seeing some of my friends bask in the glory of going to the WS. They have suffered through all the Cubs s*** longer than I have known them and they have earned this. But on the other side of it there were so many that were too drunk to remember it or really soak it all in. This is what has always driven me crazy about the Cubs fans. It truly is just a party for them and a lot of them didnt experience the baseball aspect of it or its significance. Just piss faced drunk rambling on facebook about how you are so emotional. f*** off, you wont even remember the game. I agree. You have those that have suffered. Those that are fans but only tune in for the playoffs. Those that just want to be part of the party. The worst though......those that follow sports and simply back the winning team. They are the die hard Yankee fans born and raised in Chicago that now follow the Hawks and cubs.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) TWD getting some mixed reviews, but I really think last night's episode and its underlying violence was needed to move the show forward. We need to understand clearly why Rick would succumb to someone like Negan and the brutality last night demonstrates why. Your point is spot on.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) Homewood Flossmoor, Hinsdale Central, and Palatine are all pretty damn good. Bradley Bourbonnais good too. Looks like Maine South at Brother Rice in round 1 unless Glenbard West is 8A. I thought that was where Maine south would be. Rice coaching continues to fail. At half take a knee and go in up 2 scores. Mount Carmel out of state. ESL was winning anyway but I thought MC would go deep in 7A -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) If greg isn't trolling here I just kind of feel bad at this point. He is just using reverse psychology. On paper cubs will be lucky to get more than 2 runs each game. Thing is, Dodgers will also be lucky to get more than 2 runs each game. Thus go with the better team which is without a doubt the cubs. The bigger question, how many of the cubs thongs has MLB sold?
-
Dodgers offense is terrible as was the Giants. There is no real threat right now in that lineup against he cub pitching. Maybe the cub pitching is just that good. Kershaw had to throw 7 innings of shut outball to get the win.
-
Roberts rotation choice is correct. Everything he has done this series beside that has been atrocious. If the Dodgers won last night the series is over now it should be a toss up. Going to be cold, if wind is blowing in, I like the Dodgers.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 11:29 PM) Did you see the data on Sox/Cubs fan based off of Facebook information that was retweeted by Bernstein the other day? Cubs nation has taken over even the south suburbs. Goes to show how incredible dumb people on here are that think the Cubs being awesome isn't bad for the Sox. All independent voters are backing Hillary All bellweather baseball fans are now cub fans Sox need to step up their game and a rebuild is not the time now. They need to open the books and sign some bad contracts and knock off the $0.50 crap or there will be no price to enter that stadium andthey would be better suited playign and the independent baseball stadiums around the area during the week.
-
Am I that delusional as I watch these playoffs to think the White Sox are not that far off? I don't see stacked lineups and deep rotations. Hell the Dodgers only have two starting pitchers and one of them is the definition of lightening in a bottle. The Giants offense was abysmal and the Dodgers are not much better.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) Steve Soucie's projections are right here: https://edgytim.forums.rivals.com/threads/f...ons-here.11438/ Rice should visit you in week two with the winner hosting Loyola. early 2000's Rice Lockport seemed to happen for a few years straight Palatine and Barrington meet up in quarters Marist gets Oswego again, still don't think oswego is any good same as last year. Then HF has to travel to Marist in quarters. Mount Carmel gets a tough draw but getting ESL in 2nd round at home could help. Did you see the thread about the "freeloaders" at taht site? I find that funny becasue we are all freeloaders here. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) 8A this year is so sick. If Loyola or BR wins this weekend and wins state, that maybe one of the greatest high school seasons ever. Too much hyperbole? Not really. You can go 8-1 and end up with a Maine South (who almost beat Loyola), or go 9-0 and in week two go to a LWE (who almost beat HF and lost to a good Bradley team) and was ranked rather highly all season. 7A is an absolute joke. I still think MC wins it all with a rather weak team. greg, I am not certain I am going to the Rice game. There is something intriguing about the Providence/MC game. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) Nestor Molina begets Mike Montgomery, the circle of life is complete nobody said anything about turning him into a stud. I love how "acquiring a cost controlled young arm" quickly spun into "they need a front line starter for the playoffs" and "if they can also turn Montgomery into a stud...." The Cubs dont want Hammell(and who knows, maybe Lackey too) wasting a spot. They want a young starter with talent that could possibly realize his potential. When they acquired Montgomery, this was all said about him. Maddon in his call in this week mentioned Montgomery starting next year. They probably have acquired this arm already You said they need cost controlled arms, I agree with that and I also think they more importantly need a front end starter like Arrieta was last year. I am not sold that they will continue to be as durable as they were the last two years as a team. The Dodgers and Mets injury issues and the Giants not getting a bat are benefiting the cubs greatly right now. The cubs are playing right now with essentially the 25 man roster they began the year with sans the LF that cant play LF who was replaced by a potentially better player. 3 wins in the next four games and this all becomes irrelevant anyway.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 06:55 AM) I think they end up dealing for a young, cost-controlled arm. No team is dealing young cost controlled arms that will start at the front of a playoff rotation which is what the cubs will need.
-
The MLB and Fox sports treatment of the cubs is insane and almost borders on negligent. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodger...snap-story.html The rain out and delaying the announcement of the start time until 12 hours before is almost beyond belief.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) I love Brother Rice football. Does that make me a bad man? I'm afraid Rice is the same this year as always. Damn good, damn exciting but can't beat a fundamentally sound team like Loyola. Loyola by 21. Then if we have to play on the road I don't like our chances in the stacked playoffs. I predict Rice wins the Prep Bowl this year. Why would it make you a bad man? The 8A playoffs will be good but Rice should make the quarters. Loyola is a better team in totality but the travel is bear on a Friday afternoon. Chicago traffic is horrendous. That is a two hour commute. Looking at he brackets and how the IHSA playoff system works losing may be better for either of Rice or Loyola as it will for MC. If MC beats Providence their bracket would be easy until the semis, same as two years ago. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) If the Dodgers made a trade for Sale near the trade deadline. Wowzer My guess is after looking at these playoffs, pitching becomes even more of a premium.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) You are probably right. Would be nice to either fix Shields or get rid of him. I'd say get rid of him. Look at poor Danks. We didn't try to fix him, figured he was toast. It'll be the same with Shields I bet. He's done. That's not a bad top four. We're still going to need a MUCH BETTER bullpen cause except for Sale and Q we'll have to cover the final 3 innings with Rodon, Gonzo and Shields. That's scary cause our bullpen just reeks. It has ever since Joe Morgan opened his mouth and that was a LONG time ago. You know Danks was injured and due to the injury was never able to recover.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) Joe Nossek is the only correct answer here. The man should have a statue with cave....well at least a bobble head of the two.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) That makes no sense to me. Why make a scout a coach? And a very important scout at that. Scouts and coaches are not interchangeable. My guess is that they feel they need more of this on the day to day managing of the team and preparing for games/opponents. I kind of like this move. I like the McEwing move as well I always thought he was a good baseball mind.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) This organization is a joke Would love for them to have an organizational philosophy to hitting as they seem to have with pitching.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Greenberg is going to do his own SportsCenter-like show. That is too bad, they are really good.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) The one thing they have that we don't is ass-loads of debt payment. It is not stopping them. I used to trumpet this but it does not appear to be slowing anything down. Construction projects are moving full speed ahead they are buying up land and spending money on infrastructure in and around the park. One thing Rickets family knows is how to make money. I used to thing they were cash poor but not any more. There is no way they sign Arrieta for 2018.
