  1. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) If you ever feel like being sad, go to the Facebook page of any local news station and read the comments. It's basically people pasting memes back and forth, largely filled with conspiracy theories and weird nonsense they found on the internet. Most insane one I saw yesterday was a wikileak email where a woman was inviting various Dems to a pool party and said her nieces and nephew would be there. This was interpreted as a child prostitution ring. It's nice that most people here on Soxtalk, regardless of political persuasion, are reasonable. My facebook has Michelle obama taking back the white house in four years.
  2. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Yeah the big problem here is that our manufacturing output has actually been really high recently. Those jobs were mostly lost because of technology. I could see him getting coal/steel type jobs back if he puts big tariffs on the import of those raw materials, or being more ok with pipelines, but those are pretty small groups of people that would be affected by any change (relative to the amount of people hoping that he can help them). I think the focus in those states is bringing the jobs back from Mexico and Canada that were lost via NAFTA. Once the infrastructure is built though, companies cannot just walk away.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) You honestly think manufacturing jobs will miraculously start coming back to the states because of Trump? I have some great land to sell you in Florida. no I don't that is why I am curious to see how/if it plays out. That was how he got elected as I believe he swept those states impacted by it. Other than the folks in Illinois that cannot seem to grasp the concept of big government and over taxation from the local to the state level, he cleaned up in teh rust belt.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Cubs wining it all was the 1st sign of the apocalypse. Has a person had a better week then Joe Rickets?
  5. I think most of Trump's stuff was election rhetoric. Especially in regard to abortion and social issues. He hit home with rust belt manufacturing issues and it carried Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. The sexist, racist, homophobic mantra I felt was the right blowing up matters and is not what we are getting from him in the long run. I do think he will crack down much harder on illegal immigration and am curious how the job shifting back from overseas and taxes will work out but fiscally I don't see us in a worse place 4 years from now.
  6. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) This whole debacle is requiring be to put a whole lot more faith in Paul Ryan. I don't often agree with him, but he has his head on straight and could potentially take the edge off Trump. Problem is, some outlets are calling for Ryan to step down, which would be a problem. Paul Ryan could be the most powerful man in America, highly doubt he is going anywhere.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) Love my district for voting. Zero wait in and out. The judges page is so f***ing stupid. Judges ran unopposed, house of reps candidate (the seat has been a Lipinski for probably over 40 years) ran unopposed, forgot Kim Foxx still needed to be elected.....not sure why she was not contested she is a terrible candidate but will win. Gotta love cook county and the state of Illinois There really is no reason to vote in the city of Chicago I voted for Kirk because I just wanted to hopefully keep the Senate republican to diffuse Hillary. In Illinois if you win once, you are pretty certain to have a job for life. Kim Foxx could be the worst candidate to fill a legitimate seat in government (not certain what water reclamation commissioners do) and the reason why an elected school board would be a bigger joke for Chicago.
  8. I am sick of the White Sox antics.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Even if you despise the Hawk, and I'm sure the other nominees are worthy too - Hawk deserves to get his name into the HOF as a broadcaster. That many years around this game, instantly recognizeable style. If you can't stand him - getting him into the HOF might be a thing that would make him retire! You know Pat Hughes is getting in.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) Seems like Qualifying Offers for: Bautista, Encarnacion, Hellickson, Desmond, Fowler, Turner, Jansen, Cespedes, and Neil Walker. Wieters not getting one is interesting. I really thought Fowler had an agreement to not be offered that. He is going to go through the same thing as last off season. Maybe this is just going to be an annual thing with him.
  11. At the end of the day it will be a landslide for Clinton. The American politcal system is in shambles right now. In the city of Chicago you have -Broke overtaxed city pushing middle class out of the city -Overtaxed county doing redundant work that is pushing folks out of the county -State in shambles as career politicians bleed citizans dry and drive them out of the state increasing taxes wherever they can -Federal government...I am not certain what that s*** show is.....GOP is out of control and instead of vetting to find a candidate (actually I think any of the other 15 could have won) the nomination goes to a guy that could be as unelectable as a politician could be. Hillary will take office with about a 20% approval rating after getting about 60% of the popular vote....think about that.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) Parade is monday i hear. That should be a drunk cluster f***. Milk this thing for all it is worth up there.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) Doesn't it hurt the Sox at the attendance gate? I don't agree with that. I think it makes baseball an entertainment option. If the cubs are 40-55 and the White Sox are 55-40 next year fans will move back. Folks sitting on message boards will nto but your neighbor that is a bellwether will pay attention. The city is basically 20% Sox fans 50% cub fans that are not changing and the rest are fair game. At the gate the White Sox are more accessible, economic, and family friendly. The cub is a chore to get to and with kids is a pain in the ass. I also understand the cub has a good core and will be contention but there is a parity in baseball and especially in the AL that the cub exploited the fact the NL sucks. Good for them and they will be favored to win again next year but I think they come back to the pack. This playoff season is why the Sox may rebuild and if done right could be in it as early as 2018 but it also shows that with a willingness to take on bad contracts they could be in it next year. Every team is flawed it is minimizing the flaws that gets you to the playoffs.
  14. I thought using Salazar yesterday was dumb.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) Is the world going to be different if the Cubs win? It seems like it would somehow have a snowball effect in other aspects of my life. Like, I will no longer be able to order my coffee served hot or we will have to drive on the left side of the road or something. These arent possibilities are they? That is thing at the end of the day NOTHING in your life changes becasue of this. Unless you are paid by the Chicago cubs or own an establishment that benefits, a week from today your s***ty life will still be s***ty...you will just own a few new shirts.
  16. The cubs are like Paris Hilton, Bruce Jenner and the Kardashians as a whole. People are following them and all excited becasue that is what they are being told to do. Society is pretty much mindless now a days. As far as the White Sox go, it is time to s*** or get off the pot. The breaking even, lightening in bottle scheme is gone. As far as fans go the cubs have their 40% of the population, the White Sox 20% and the rest will follow whoever is playing better.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) If the Cubs lose, it could look like Vancouver after their cup loss a few years back. I don't think the fans really care that much about it to actually do anything other than drink and look to hook up. Also the police presence in Wrigleyville is beyond belief.
  18. I just saw the first inning error. Lonnie Chisenhall is the Indians version of Avi Garcia. What exactly was he doing there?
  19. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) Lines have been released and the tribe are home underdogs with Kluber on the bump. They still can't get any respect from Vegas. My $ (not2.5Kthough is on the Cubs. The bottom looks like it is starting to fall out for Cleveland. It has nothing to do with respect it has to do with money. The line moves based on who is playing which team. The cubs are heavily bet on all year by their fans that just want the ticket. The 10/5/3 to 1 world series lines from last winter are all factored in to the Vegas lines. The lines now moved based on action as well. By the time the game starts, the cubs will be a 150 to 175 favorite on just about every site if not a solid 2 to 1.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) JOE WEST behind home plate tonight Joe West was the first base ump Sunday and he blew the balk call. Joe West thinks Joe Maddon is an obnoxious glory hound who believes he is larger than life. Joe West was the best man in Jack Buck wedding and as such is not happy with how the cub fans are treating Joe Buck. Joe West owes all of society to do the right thing and call the strike zone equally larger than it should be in order to get the game in, in under 3 hours and knock off the damn visits to the mound. Joe West is a musician and would some day like to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located in Cleveland as well as the baseball Hall of Fame. Joe West could give a flying f*** about tradition, curses and fanboy band wagon jumpers. He's been enforcing the rules of baseball well before most cub fans knew the game existed. Joe west will call you out for leaning into a pitch.....Joe Crede says, damn right he will and will call out Rizzo for doing this all season long. This game is all about Joe West, not the cubs. Go on Cowboy Joe West, be the man!!!!!!
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 10:39 PM) I know vikes are banged up but amazed the holes that backup guards Kush and Larsen got on them. That and it was about as good of a development game as you could hope for. Floyd/white hair looked great. I did not see the whole game but from what I saw, the OL and moving pocket were key. I am still mystified that Jay is not allowed to roll out as much.
  22. You know what would be awesome, if Reinsdorf and McCaskey got someone to buy the Bears and White Sox for $2.5B and they built a retractable stadium that could be used for football, baseball, the superbowl and the NCAA Championships. The World Series showed once again that Chicago can throw a great party.
  23. Vegas liking the cubs again. Sunday was a huge number for them -250 (that is insane for the world series and crazy for the regular season) today is a big world series road number -150 on them. Game 7 will have them as a big favorite as well as cub nation will play them like crazy.
